Having a group with a lucic and let's say Antoine roussel allows the rest of the team and young players to play a certain way and develop a certain swagger and feel protected doing so.

It's about creating a culture and locker room and team dynamic that allows the young players to grow a certain way. These types can be touchholders and allow the rest of the team to play freeier, more physically.

As mikos says, you guys value some of these guys much higher then the people who see them everyday and Know them know them

There is no type of player that prevents dirty plays. There should not be a single player in this lineup who is here primarily to “deter” anything or protect anyone. It doesn’t work and it’s been shown over and over and over.

Your argument has been touched upon ad naseu or whatever the saying is. Yes, you can't prevent dirty plays, you can protect and allow your more skilled players more breathing room by having guys who will stand up for them on the ice

People are completely lost what it takes to win in the NHL. Having guys like that on your team is so important. It's amazing. Aside from Chicago and Pittsburgh two years ago, name a team that has won that didn't have players or a line who kept other teams honest and allowed their teammates to play freeier

I think he’s trying to make sure his boy Desharnais hasn’t lost a step before he pulls the trigger on something like Mete + Galchenyuk + 1st for Desharnais UFA rights to negotiate prior to July 1.
