I think the forward group is pretty close. They're still driving scoring chances and Lias/Chytil are going to be good players. I think we just need one elite talent who's going to make a difference in tight games. This is what we missed against Tampa in 2015. If this whole thing works out and we become a contender again, we don't want to be missing that again.

The defense has to be totally rebuilt and Marc Staal just has to go. When is he done?

4-5years $40-50M for Panarin?

Kreider Zib Nylander
Panarin Chytil Kravstov

7x7 for Kreider?
Do not think Kreider are here at the beginning og 20-21 season. Him needing a new contract after next year doesnt match good with our team as he will get pretty old in the middle of the compete phase.

The easy answer is not soon enough, but I believe he has two more years left after this year. AS for the defense, they have at least four quality top 4 defensive prospects in the system - Hajek, Miller, Keane and Lundkvist, and a lot people are also high on Lindgren. What they lack is a surefire top pairing Dman.

I'm not totally convinced it's about his play. To put it one way,

Say they did play him and he kept playing well, they'd have to justify his next scratch. His game may grow on the fans, maybe the media will even take notice and ask some difficult specific questions?

Yet if they scratch him often, and he plays poorly at any point coming back in, they can justify scratching him and all the fans and media will by default come to the conclusion the Rangers were correct that his game was just never good enough.

Now, If they just do not like something about him outside of his play, justified or not, I think the second option there seems to be an unwritten way to make sure the player is not part of the long term plans, yet no need to waive him because if an emergency comes up...

You do realize how ridiculous this sounds, don't you? What is their incentive for sabotaging him? He's a really good player, but they don't like him personally, so they are doing everything they can to discredit him? Come on, man. I know you like ADA, but try to employ a little objectivity. There's no conspiracy here. The fact of the matter is, the coaches see a lot more of ADA than we do. We have no idea what he is like in practice. We have no idea what the coaches are seeing in game films that we don't see on the broadcasts. We have no idea if he's doing everything that's expected of him because frankly, we don't know exactly what is expected of him.

Can you offer even one shred of evidence to support your conspiracy theory? Because there's plenty of evidence to the contrary.

I'm hoping Miller has that potential to be a low-end 1 or a very good 2, but I want our own Hedman/Subban/Doughty. I want that even more than an elite center.

Of course, the coming draft seems like a center draft.

The good news is, you generally need to jump on the centers early, but it's much more common to find an elite D after 15 or even in the 2nd or 3rd round. So maybe we can do both.

These are lessons the virtually starting-over Rangers of David Quinn have yet to absorb. It’s early and it’s not necessarily going to get a lot better. Anybody who’s surprised by this hasn’t been paying attention.

This team will be much younger and maybe worse next year. And younger still the following year.

Rangers continue to struggle to handle momentum swings...

Is the "timing" right for the Rangers to get involved with free agents again?

No.

This is a "hold the fort year". The young guys develop at their different levels this season. More young players on the team next season. Not just a handful. That's the time to spend $70M plus on one player? No.

Michael Ray Richardson.

"The ship be sinking". How far can the ship sink Michael Ray? "The sky is the limit".

Imagine if the Rangers are maybe worse next year.

Alexis Lafreniére here we come.

Various NY post Quinn quotes. One is not "like" the others

“I just think there’s more there,” Quinn said. “He and I talked about it [Saturday]. He’s a really good player, we just need him to play to his ability.” about Spooner

“[Pionk] does a great job getting the puck through to the net,” Quinn said. “He doesn’t try to make the difficult pass, he’s making the right pass. He’s not overthinking it. It’s amazing what happens — you just keep making the right play, the opportunities are going to present themselves.”

“He’s just such an honest player,” Quinn said. “He’s so coachable. He’s got good skills. Such a likable guy that, forget the fact he’s a good hockey player, he just brings an energy to the line.” about Fast

“As long as he continues to put forth an effort, we’re going to let him play because we think very highly of him,” Quinn said. “He’s a big piece of our future and I think he could be good right now. This isn’t just about the future, this is about us winning hockey games right now and we think he can help us.” about Chytil

“I just think he just feels good about himself,” the coach said. “One of the things when we talked this summer, we both wanted to erase what happened last year. We were picking up where he left off the previous year against [Ottawa] in the playoffs when he was so good. Pick up where he put himself in a position for us to sign him long term and trade for him and be a good player in this league.
“We’re not asking guys to do something they haven’t done before. I think he’s back to being the effective, good defenseman that he’s been for a while.” about Smith

“I was going to come back with Cody, but I decided to get Butchie back in,” Quinn, who has not yet gone with the same lineup in consecutive games, said before the match. “I’ve said before that a lot of these decisions are not 100 percent, they are 51-49 a lot. But Butchie is going to be an important part of what we’re going to do.
“Listen, he’s a really good player, he had a good practice [on Monday] and he’s got a good attitude. We need him. I want to get him back on the horse.”

“Freddy makes good passes, and he’s brought energy to our game,” Quinn said. “He’s given us what we need. With eight defensemen, I’ve told them all, ‘If you want to play, grab a position.’ ”

“This guy is a talented player,” Quinn said. “I think what he and I have talked about is we just need more out of him consistently. He’s got an awful lot of talent and skill, but that’s not going to get you a lot of production offensively if you don’t do the other things you need to do offensively. It’s not just him, it’s our team in general. “We have to have more of a grit element to our game offensively, we have to get to the net, there has to be less BS to our game offensively. We have to have more of a shooters’ mentality. He and I talked about that. I think it’ll good for him to sit and watch. Again, he’s a guy that has an awful lot of talent and skill, but there’s more to this game than that.” about Buch

“This is a guy who’s coming off major knee surgery, who is getting his game back, who’s physically getting there and mentally getting there,” the coach said. “To expect him to come back and hit the ground running might have been a little premature.

“Pionk is going to play a lot of hockey for us,” Quinn said. “He and I have talked. I don’t want to reveal our lineup for our next game, but he’s a guy I like an awful lot, and he’s going to play a lot for us.”

“Tony knows what he needs to do,” first-year coach David Quinn said before the game. “We’ve had good conversations, and he knows what’s expected of him. He knows what he needs to do to get back in the lineup.”

That's not evidence, that's conjecture. If you want to believe that the coaching staff has it out for ADA, that's your right, but it flies in the face of common sense.

We'll see. I don't think the Rangers are on the 5 year plan. Historically, they've never had the patience and I think more of this year has to play out before any decisions are made. On one hand, them signing Panarin wouldn't surprise me in the least - particularly if they can come up with some kind of a plan to dump Staal. On the other hand, if the kids take longer than expected to develop the way the organization wants them to then nothing would surprise me at all. It's going to be an interesting year.

Even if we hit on every pick we already made, it will take time for these players to become really producers in the league. Embrace the suffering.

At the start of the 2020-21 season, Andersson will be days away from 23. Chytil will be 22 that year. Kravtsov, Miller, Keane, etc. will be 21.

If we're not seeing progress by then, we're in serious trouble.
They’ll be younger by default once Zucc is traded and Staal is bought out (hopefully)

How bad they are next year really depends on how the lottery goes for them.

They'll be younger, sure. Worse would be a big problem.

I can see if we're still not a contender in 3 years. If we're still going downward in 3 years, we f***ed something up.

I take it you could not find any quotes where anyone within the Rangers had anything to say about DeAngelo being a big part of their team or future or had anything complementary to say about him at all other than when asked directly post game they may say "he played well"

I didn't bother to look because I don't think it means anything. You obviously think Quinn is lying, so anything he says doesn't matter anyway, right?

Yup, I'm willing to give them the next two-years, but there has to be some semblance of progress. If it looks like they're spinning their wheels, then you'll be right about Gorton and he gets shown the door.

This team IS going to be bad until at least 2021... why are people surprised by this????

Look at the contracts handed out... ALL gone by that date.

By then there will be young players we all hope are going to be amazing for us, gone and or traded.

This team will be unrecognizable in 2021.

That will hopefully be a good thing.

Delete if this was already discussed....

Is there anything going on with the Rangers and Maple Leafs?

Dubas and Nylander's agent, Lewis Gross, were at the Ranger game last night and were seen talking, according to Darren Dreger. Dreger mentions further that it isn't out of the question that GM's presonally go out to watch hockey, but definitely do so with purpose. So something is definitely up with TOR and NYR.

Dreger mentioned over the radio that Toronto tried to get a defenseman from NYR before the deadline last season, but eventually called it quits when the Rangers asked for Kasperi Kapanen in return.

Thoughts?

Chytil is not going to the AHL

Status quo for Andersson.

Andersson leads his team with eight points (3-5) in eight games. The Rangers are keeping watch on the 2017 seventh-overall selection but management doesn’t seem on the verge of recalling the center. Again, though, the contract slide is not an issue.

“Lias is playing well,” Gorton said. “At this point, we want him in a place where he’s playing major minutes in all situations. He’s getting about 20:00 a night there. I wouldn’t be comfortable with him getting seven or eight minutes a night here.

“As the year goes on, certainly it’s something we’ll be monitoring.”

When Gorton trades Hayes, Andersson will be up unless there is an injury.
