Kreider and Shattenkirk would fit for Toronto. I’m doubtful Toronto would want McQuaid. It seems more likely the Rangers move Shattenkirk to open a spot for someone like ADA and keep McQuaid for the season. Shattenkirk gives the Leafs a top-4 RD at a sweetheart of a contract for this year and two more.

I don't see what Toronto would want with Shattenkirk if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs. His playoff performance with the Caps was brutal.

It's not just playoffs... it gets magnified in playoffs. He's atrocious. I don't understand it.. How a team can commit that much cap to him...

At this point I rather dress 7 defenseman and just let Shatty play the PP. He's that bad

We are gonna get a discount. :D

Interesting. Guess he really does just want to live in a big city.

Also I haven’t posted in a while but I’ve been having a good chuckle at those saying “no Panarin, we’re rebuilding”. Rangers haven’t had a forward like him since I can remember.

Don’t forget the impact having a player of his level can have on our rebuilding young team. This is a no brainer (if he truly wants to sign).

Skjei is getting a lot of criticism lately, but I think its part of the equation of being a good young D on a worthless team to have a pretty bumpy road. I am sure he would be hyped a ton if he played on a great team.

Delete if this was already discussed....

Is there anything going on with the Rangers and Maple Leafs?

Dubas and Nylander's agent, Lewis Gross, were at the Ranger game last night and were seen talking, according to Darren Dreger. Dreger mentions further that it isn't out of the question that GM's presonally go out to watch hockey, but definitely do so with purpose. So something is definitely up with TOR and NYR.

Dreger mentioned over the radio that Toronto tried to get a defenseman from NYR before the deadline last season, but eventually called it quits when the Rangers asked for Kasperi Kapanen in return.

Thoughts?

Dubas met with Nyls agent at the game. Nyls agent, Lewis Gross, is NY based (somewhat, close to Yonkers, there is a good TV-series about a dude from Yonkers becoming the youngest major ever, but pretty depressing):
SPM | Sports Professional Management | Englewood Cliffs, NJ.

Look, I’m for signing Panarin, but the skepticism is warranted based on this teams history. We also said the Rangers hadn’t had a forward like Brad Richards that we could remember. These things don’t always turn out the way we expect.

I just personally think opportunistic gambling is part of a successful rebuild.

I definitely hear you. But Panarin doesn’t have an injury riddled history like Gabs did (who I still view as a successful signing) nor is he north of 30 like BR was. I won’t even go into the earlier UFA blunders which were just classic Sather mistakes.

He’s right in his prime and plays with fire. Torts loves him, think that says enough about his compete level and attitude. Combine that with his skill and he’s perfect.

He's right in his prime, and will likely be coming out of it by the time the Rangers are ready to compete for a cup (sorry, theres by cynical Pavlovian reaction to anything regarding Rangers free agent signings). But, with that said, the Rangers would be fools to ignore that kind of talent knocking on their door.

Pavlovian reaction hahaha.

The ages don’t line up perfectly. But like you said can’t ignore that kind of talent that (importantly) wants to be here.

Just think of the effect Breadman could have on Zib, Chytil, Buch, or whoever else he plays with. That alone makes it worth it to me.

Truth be told, he'd be in a better position to succeed if he was on a good to great team --- playing on the second pair and giving the team a very solid option to roll out behind its first pair.

I think I would be more hesitant with Panarin if the wings were an area of strength in our organization and we had several prospects knocking down the door.

But Panarin doesn't really block anyone, which is to say nothing about his age/track record to this point.

Personally, I like what we have developing at center, but I also want them to have quality wingers to play with.

It's possible the Rangers add to the depth at the position in this draft, or they could take a center that forces someone to shift to the wings. But even then, I don't think Panarin creates a glut by any stretch.

I didn't bother to look because I don't think it means anything. You obviously think Quinn is lying, so anything he says doesn't matter anyway, right?

Actually I think Quinn and Gorton too, are quite truthful in what they are not saying.

I looked, I have watched the town hall, I have watched pretty much all the pre and post game stuff, the Rangers unless I messed it, have not said much of anything about DeAngelo since his injury last year, and even then it was stuff like, shucks that is a tough break for him. If they are asked directly about him and the answer is always very vague.

There are quotes all over about every other prospects or youth, and even most of the vets but not him. If he was in their plans why the lack of support?

They have a Shattenkirk quote about how he was injured, DeAngelo was also injured. Everyone else who has been scratched has some sort of quote about the Rangers plans or some kind words for them.

Whether they like him or not, rightfully or not, it does not matter, he is an asset they traded for, if they played him and he did decent stuff he'd be an asset they could use or trade off.

If they are not going to use him, why not just cut bait and waive him? If not, if they don't use him, next off-season are they going to qualify him, or he is going to sign his qualifier? It's a waste of an asset regardless if it's on DeAngelo or if it's on the Rangers.

One way or another the Rangers either made a mistake in trading for him, or they are making a mistake by not playing him, or they made mistakes in between by putting players in front of him, I don't see how they can have it both ways.

Panarin also has the big advantage of not having too many hard NHL miles on his body.

But we're not talking about actually competing. We're talking about this team being worse in 20-21 than they are now. That would be a disaster.

Ah my bad totally misunderstood. Yeah if we're still horrible then we f***ed up. We should be a bubble team by then imo.

Pronman's top 100 players under 25:

75) Pavel Buchnevich
82) Brady Skjei

Honorable Mention(in no order)
Neal Pionk
Tony DeAngelo

You need to add to what you have. And when you have a chance to get Elite talent at the cost of only money you do it. It would be foolish for anyone here to think otherwise. Absolutely foolish. Next year:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov
xxxx-Howden-xxxxx
xxxx-xxxxxx-Fast

Who knows who will be left next year and who will be promoted. Andersson, where does he slide in because I see him making this team. Then there is the laundry list of guys who may be traded/kept/re-signed or re-signed after being traded aka Zucc. The list is Hayes, Nams, Spooner, Zucc, Vesey. I think Vesey hangs around for the 3rd/4th line LW rotating between the two. Does Chytil slide to the wing? I would be ok with Zucc coming back on the 3RW.

Lots of questions remaining to be answered. Maybe Nylander becomes part of this discussion. But Panarin is a must. He makes this team immediately dangerous in their top 6 and on the PP. And for those questioning giving up assets for Nylander in the midst of a rebuild, how about some perspective...you are going to recoup assets in the guys you trade from the list above while adding a young extremely talented kid in Nylander who is already better than everyone on that list and has a high % chance of being better than anyone you draft with the picks you trade for him or the picks you get from the assets you trade. This is why we cleared space and had guys sign bridge deals.

I don't see a fit for Shattenkirk at all really. Toronto is about to be in a severe cap crunch paying Auston Matthews Bill Nylander and Mitch Marner. I would not really call Shatty's contract 'a sweetheart' one

Also Shattenkirk is more of a PP and offensive guy they already have in Jake Garinder.

They need someone younger, more cost controlled and who plays a more defensive game. A base of Brett Pesce for Nylander could be a Win-Win for both teams.
