Toronto only has 3 RHD on the 23 man roster and basically only dress 2 in Oshiganov and Zaitsev. Holl is a tweener.

I don't know how much TOR covets Adam McQuaid....I don't see him pushing anyone of their lineup but he's better than Holl/Marincin.

nothing I see from zucc in the last 18 months or so shows me leadership. he's been completely checked out. the things he says. he just sounds like a guy who is done. hasn't bought into this coaching staff. the best thing we could do for him is trade him maybe he'll get that fire back. he's got NONE right now

This was an interesting article and cuts at the uphill battle Quinn faces. Can he get vets to change their game? Can he get young guys to get out of their comfort zone? In his position, I can't blame Quinn at the current moment for preaching effort and sacrifice. What other choice does he have? This roster isn't winning any talent contests anytime soon. The most important question is whats the penalty for not buying into this philosophy of shared sacrifice, particularly for the younger guys?

This is the problem with having so many pass-first vets on the roster. They are so set in their ways that they find it hard to adapt, which is a big issue.

But this is where Quinn will be good with the younger guys. He can help mold the new mentality that the next "core" will have (especially because Hartford also will use the same system that Quinn uses in the NHL)

I'm not saying that everyone should have only a shoot-first mentality, but there should be more of a shoot-first mentality instead of "pass, pass, pass, pass, etc." mentality.

This team isn't a bunch of Joe Thorntons, Henrik Sedins, and Adam Oates. This is why Quinn, reportedly, has told them (probably multiple times) in practice to cut the fancy passing crap and shoot when you have an open lane.

They keep trading all of his best friends, gotta be a major bummer for him.

I think he makes for a good fit in Toronto as a replacement for Nylander if Dubas moves him for better available parts than what the Rangers have. I could also see him fit next to the likes of Kopitar or Malkin.

A tiger doesn't change it's stripes.

If you have a young guy who is a pass first guy, it would be dumb to penalize him for that since thats what hes always been, especially when hes given a few players a pass despite being horrendous for pretty much the entire season so far.

They need to drop the declining (Zucc, McQuaid), redundant (Spooner, Namesnikov, Vesey) and flat out horrible (Staal) pieces and start to mold the team with players that fit the mold they're looking for. Some of those are coming soon (Hajek, Andersson, presumably Kravstov and Keane in less than a years time) but from here on out, there is no excuse not to get those kinds of players. You know what you want, now go out and get it.

Nobody should ever describe Namestnikov as "finesse-oriented" but you know, he's Russian and whatnot.

I wonder if we’ll see the lack of finishers impact how the Rangers approach the upcoming draft. Do they target high-end wingers with a shoot-first mentality?

Perhaps with some of their later 1sts.

Their highest pick has to go towards who ever the best player is. There are 6 or 7 guys who make my pants move in he top 10.

He's right in his prime, and will likely be coming out of it by the time the Rangers are ready to compete for a cup (sorry, theres by cynical Pavlovian reaction to anything regarding Rangers free agent signings). But, with that said, the Rangers would be fools to ignore that kind of talent knocking on their door.
So you are saying the Rangers won’t be competiting for a Cup until 25-26 or so at the earliest? That’s great news. I may be dead by then.

Benching them, don't giving them proper ice time, being a **** person to him and etc. Innumerous and various ways of doing it.
If the GM has your back, like Quinn has, he definitely can force a trade.
Not sure how that forces the hand. Go ahead and bench him. Still going to pay his contract in full.

And a rookie head coach being a douche to the well-respected elder statesman in the room? Really? When have you seen that?

Nothing assholeish about benching someone for being horrible, regardless of the respect they have in the room.

If anything, its more assholeish not to.
