Trading those players now means you can compete in 2018 and 2019

Trading those players now absolutely does not ensure competitiveness in 2018/2019.

Not saying extending everyone or not trading them is the key. But let’s pump the breaks on how quickly this can turn around by trading zucc/mcd/Nash etc now.

So you agree with the Puljujaarvi + 1st talk?

As an aside, im legitimately curious what Ottawa would pay for Zuccarello. With the built up chemistry there with Brassard, would they trade White?

Kreider to Edmonton for Puljujarvi+1st
Zuccarello to Ottawa for Brown/White+1st
Nash to San Jose for 1st

Get it done

I`m not updated with Ottawa, but I like Erik Karlsson & Brassard - so I don`t mind to move Zucc to Ottawa. And there are many who have asked for a finisher on the same line as Zucc, but u see how fast it get cold when he was on the Hayes line earlier with Vesey, guys can`t finish plays.

It's pretty obvious that the game is getting faster and it is doing so at an increasing rate.

How many stretch passes has Kreider connected on this year? My worry is that macro factors are a risk for him. As his speed advantage is neutralized (age + less opposing pylons + more opposing faster young players), can he still have the same impact?

I love the guy so much, watched him at Andover. Most roster moves don't phase me personally, even for some of my favorites. But if Kreider is traded it will take me back to when I was 11 and my Dad broke the Kovalev news to me. But if Puljujarvi is on the table I could support it. He is the type of player who has the potential to be really dynamic. Some trouble signs for sure, so would want more back.

I don't necessarily agree with it.

I'd only be ok with a deal like that if Gorton says outright that we are punting this season and starting a rebuild.

I'm not sure that Pulu and a 1st would be the best return that could be had. He's just too risky of a prospect, IMO, but if Gorton is talking to Edmonton about Kreider, he's who they should (realistically) be targeting. If Kreider is dealt, he absolutely must come back with at least a 2018 1st.

Glen Sather can`t just sit still on the sideline here - he is the president. It would surprise me if Larry B. just wrote the article based on purely speculation - it`s obvious to me when I read it that he had some sort of sources. Even Dave M. from MSG Networks questioned the compete level on saturday, and he is usually a patient hockey expert. :)

If Hank has taken a turn then it’s fire sale time. Zuccarello. Kreider. McDonagh. This organization needs Hank to be Hank for at least another 2 years.

I don`t understand Henrik `taken a turn` - we are all aware that he is usually a slow starter. He had some mistakes and misreads earlier, but he is far from done in NHL as our main goalie this season.

...
Elliotte Friedman said Edmonton is looking for wingers and he brought up Kreider. The hockey analytics guy Dom thought the Oilers would suck this season. I would take the Oilers 1st rounder in 2018. Will Edmonton be a playoff team? That pick will be a potential lottery pick. ...
I'd like it too, but I don't see them overly eager to offer it in payment. And Kreider is worth way, way more. The deal here is Nash reduced + Grabner + Gettinger
for
Pul [who it was pointed out has only 1 further elc] + cap dump Fayne and a conditional 2018 Oiler 1st. This way, if our guys don't produce, we still have a decent piece, and if Nash + Grabs do 40 gs or better, we also get a 1st.

Kreider to EDM is an over the top move for them. If Chris actually skates hard... next to McDavid... that's going to drive defenses crazy. I thought about this just the other day, it would be a good move for the Rangers to move on.

PuJu has good potential... but he's maybe another year-2 away... the game he plays... he needs to fill out to be effective. Also the knock on Puju is that he doesn't engage on the walls. Size, speed, skill is there. It's better to take the 4th overall from 2016 plus package Kreider with defensemen to get picks from them.
If Kreider is involved, it has to be him + for LeoDrai +.

The Rangers should send their entire front office and scouting staff to go look at Puljujarvi in Bakersfield,California.
There is a deal to be made with Edmonton because they need a winger.
Yes, but it is a crapshoot, so like I said, vets Nash + Grabner. Pulju + is not worth a known Kreider.

You can argue if it was a good trade or not for our club, I personally would not have traded 3 young/prime guys for one at the time.
Regardless of whether it would've been a good trade for NYR, it was totally unrealistic for both teams and had NO CHANCE IN HELL of EVER happening, much like ALL of your proposals.
Nope. If it was good enough for both teams at the time it was realistic. It clearly was for NYR, and arguably was for EDM back then also.

RNH + Jesse Puljujarvi and 2nd round pick for Kreider and Nash(50% retained)....
No on multiple levels, both what was said previously in this thread and as to do not want RNH who at best is a slightly improved Stepan. A gazillion times no.

Shipachev for Tambellini and Graves
Nope, b'c we may well need Graves who I suspect is good+. Tambo and conditional pick(s) based on performance. Also want them to eat part of Shipmeister, and/or take back a cap dump.

I...We need talent, plain and simple. Kreids is ... with talent, and shipping him off when we clearly have a coaching problem doesn’t make sense to me.
I don’t believe any of this country club talk, and we never discuss the middle area between having a dictator like Torts/Ruff and a hands-off guy like AV. Great coaches like Laviolette and Babcock do both.
Concur fully

Maybe its the name, nationality, and position, but Puljujaarvi just constantly brings me back to the disasters that was Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson.
No sense in it, just seems weirdly comparable in career tracks so far.
Pulju is a gamble, an unknown quality. That's fine if he is a throw in; it is not fine if he is a core piece.

You are mortgaging a big part of the future and our best defender to create a 1 line team which doesn't work in today's NHL.
Total disagree.
If we could get MacK for those pieces, then as I noted:
Kreider-Boo-MacK = most dominant line
Miller-Reinhart-Zib = why is that not also an awesome line?
Chytil-Hayes-Vesey = very solid for a 3rd line
4th line, fine, we can improve.
Your allegation is wrong on its face.

Theoretical question, would you rather see Gorton trade Zuccarello or Kreider assuming the same return.
Zuc.
As others noted, Kreider would be harder to replace + wanna stay ahead of the contract renewal = more cap curve. Zuc gets extended earlier, and we can't afford it.

If we trade Kreider, it’s gotta be as a result of the realization by the FO that we need to rebuild. Prospects and picks. Even then I’m skeptical.

But please, None of this change of scenery, like for like trades. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.

This^ to the max.
No moving CK for anything less than massive overpay in the desired currency.

If Larry Brooks wrote it, it was leaked. The team always uses him as the unofficial spokesperson. He has great sources still.

It's funny with what Hattrick Swayze said above with Kreider. Look at a player like Hagelin who when he came into the league was one of the most electrifying skaters the first 3-4 years. Yes he's been a little injured but he's barely ever spoken about anymore. All that Torts hockey and playoff games with both Rangers and Pittsburgh seems to have taken a toll on him. Also players are faster now so his speed may not be what it was once since so many guys skate well compared to 11-12 when Hal Gill, Brian Rolston, and Niklas Grossman were still NHLers

If Hank has taken a turn then it’s fire sale time. Zuccarello. Kreider. McDonagh. This organization needs Hank to be Hank for at least another 2 years.

There guys are signed for at least a couple of more seasons. I'd try very hard to get Shesterkin over here and evaluate after at least a season.

Re. Kreider: I think Gorten already made a "forced" trade when he moved Stepan. If he needs to move Kreider the return should be at least a full max value and then some. Kreider is a highly regarded commodity and there is no compelling reason to trade him other than what's in the return. Because the fortunes of this season's team are mostly with goaltending, meaning Lundqvist, and maybe Mcdonough. Kreider is young, signed to a good term over a number of years. He could fit any forward looking plan. No discount.

I`m curious what Glen Sather has in mind as coach candidates, but it might be too early though.
I don`t understand Larry if he only wrote it to create drama and commotion based on an assumption - you don`t need journalism background to understand he will lose credibility if it was based on speculation.

trading Kreider imho ensures we are a lottery team..i know he hasnt scored much this season, but hes still a threat in a toothless team...trade him, go for the tank.

Kreider for Pul+1
Nash for San Jose 1 like today.. (they can still turn it around)
Zucc for 2 firsts or a bluechip + first
McD for a brinks trucks worth of prospects+picks
rebuild.

Of course literally none of this matters unless AV is fired.
