To defend our guest, the Oilers most likely regard Drai as untouchable. Once Crosby and Malkin fall off the grid when they get older, EDM will have the most lethal 1-2 punch at C in the league. There is no reason to give that up for an underachieving winger no matter how great of a player Kreider is, and there is no addition we can make to CK to make it worth EDM's time. The offer would have to be a crazy overpayment, think what Sakic would ask for Mackinnon.

This team isn't as bad as their record. Everyone likes to blame Hank and the goaltending, but they are playing slightly above their expectation. Stop missing the forest for the trees. There isn't a team in the league that gives up more dangerous chances than the Rangers. This isn't because the defense, individually, is bad, this is because the defense, the system, is ****ing broken, and has been broken for at least two years now. We don't see it because Hank miracled us to a playoff round win last season, and the stink of being embarrassed by the Pens two years ago got washed out in the memories. That's when the house-cleaning should've happened. AV should've been fired after the 15-16 season. We're two years late, and sinking further every day.

Yep, because this system requires a goaltender to play out of his mind to make up for the lack of coverage. Do any teams even play man-to-man defense anymore? It seems like such a waste
 
I think if Kreider gets dealt it's in a similar deal to Steps. I.e., the Rangers get a good prospect and high pick while sending an additional piece with Kreider. Holden for example. That can address two needs for a team while giving the Rangers two strong building blocks.

It'd also behoove the Rangers to flex their financial muscle and absorb a cap dump to increase the return value.

Thx for the defend. If I'm Chiarelli, I consider Drai untouchable but in saying that, Chiarelli has traded Sequin for pennies on the dollar. I think if a trade happens, it will be RNH involved.
There could be more players involved. It could turn into a blockbuster. Rangers and Oilers are greatly under-achieving but have one thing in common; a fan base that is very impatient. I can see something happen if both teams continue to suck

Kreider isn't returning Draisaitl... But if Oilers get Kreider and NYR don't get Puljujärvi/Yamamoto + another GOOD asset or two then i'll be disappointed/angry... NYR needs a blue chip wing prospect back in the package if Kreider is traded imo

Agreed 100%. Trade winds might be blowing in November instead of March

I would trade Kreider for Puljujarvi/Yamamoto + 2018 first. And I wouldn't think twice about it.

Brassard returned Zibanejad and a 2nd. I don't think it's that unbelievable the package above is a possibility for a guy like Kreider. I'd have to change my name, but I can change it to Chytil Juice

Don't think that works cap wise for Oilers, guess they could toss in a cap dump... I'd say NYR probably wants RNH/Strome in the package, balance it out on either sides depending on the player... But as i said, unless we get a blue chip wing prospect in the trade then i'll be angry.

That's my fantasy team name lol. I would probably do that trade and then tank considering that as much as Kreider underachives, losing him still weakens our firepower up front. And then we hopefully end up with 2 top-10 picks and steal a top pairing Dman and a sniper and I will be happy.

Toss Fayne into the package. Problem solved.
 
If it goes down I think it will be something like Kreider + Holden for Puljujarvi + Strome + 2nd

Don't think Kreider can get JP and a 1st, especially when Edmonton is underachieving. Strome in the deal gives the NYR an NHL body who can play C, and gets the Oilers $2.5M of cap relief.

I am 60/40 towards disliking it, which is why I think it's realistic.

I posted it earlier, but if we can trade Kreider and Zuccarello for a prospect+1st to Edmonton and Ottawa, and Nash to San Jose for a 1st, it would one amazing draft day to watch.

4 picks in the first round! As long as we don't pull a Boston, where we draft some scrubs. But imagine winning the lottery and getting those 3 picks with it. Think of all the cap space we will have for an Riemsdyk and Tavares ;)

We can walk away after day 1 of the draft with:

Do the Rangers think Strome could convince Tavares to come to NYR?

I don't think it will be Strome but I can see something like this with the stipulation that the 2nd turns into a 1st depending on how far the Oilers go this year.

Yamamoto is probably a bit more costly because he is still 7 years away from UFA status. With Puljujarvi they both burnt a year off his ELC, and gave him an accrued season for being on the team for 40+ games.

Vesey can't be moved now, or we no longer have favor w/college UFAs.
Unless he wants out as a matter of personal preference and makes it clear, and he is clearly not forced out, we have to hold him for at least another year, maybe 2.
This has been a disappointing and slow start compared to last year which was uneven but showed real flashes.
Try to save this asset, not let it go cheap.

The Oilers and Rangers do have a history of trading with each other. Maybe it is the Sather effect.
If the Oilers offer a 1st and Puju, Sather is crazy not to do that trade. It could be a 1st overall. Both of our teams are greatly under-achieving!

Crazy or not, if you want to pair CK w/McDavid, LeoDrai IS the core piece price you must pay.
Otherwise, no deal.
Puju w/1yr elc is only acceptable as a throw in, NOT as a core piece.
