Based on two games where we saw Othmann he's been noted to skate around somewhat aimlessly when the Rangers were defending. Not too unexpected from a player who's getting his first taste of the NHL but Zegras with all his deficiencies is still miles ahead of him at the moment. Is he coming back from the injury this season?
And I guess he should be with this being his 4th year in the NHL. I think his last game was in January so if he is moved it probably won't be until the summer anyway. Othmann needs work but I'm talking next year and beyond.

What if we make them take penalties by doing the things that make teams take penalties: forechecking, cycling with possession, going to the net, second effort in the O zone... Sometimes taking penalties is better than letting a player drive to the goal... Anyway, we can "what if" all day: what if we play a team that really doesn't give up any 5V5 goals? What if...
It's not like I said "f*** that, no more 5v5 goals needed!" All I said is we should stop acting like this team doesn't score. Because we DO. As I said, I'd love more 5v5 (and all situation) goals from this team, and fewer all situations goals against... Doesn't mean this team doesn't score which is what I was answering, It wasn't a 5v5 post I was replying to.
Uh... that's not something you can just turn on in the playoffs... you kind of have to practice it all season.

It's not that the Rangers are bad at any one of those things... it's that they do NONE of those things.

I'd love to get Zegras here now or in the offseason.

I understand some of the reservations, but I'd love to see what he does on this squad as opposed to the ducks.

I'm not into moving one of our A prospects for much, but for him I would pull the trigger.

Same for EP but he's not going anywhere.

He is not good and the only reason he is where he is is because Bonino was simply horrible. They need to upgrade and they need center depth. There has to be a deal out there that will provide an upgrade at a cost they can work with.

he is good and the line with him Cuylle and Kakko was a very good 3rd line that was great defensively. and again there is nobody out there that would be enough of an upgrade on him to be worthy of giving up assets.

Size has nothing to do with being able to pass, Chara, Pronger, etc were great passers in their prime.
I agree, puck moving is puck moving. I don’t care whether they’re horse sized or peanut sized.

It means that in playoff time things get rougher and more traffic in front of the net, things get let go more and he struggles with the physical part of the game because he is small, he just can't move anyone and having 2 or 3 of those types on the team makes you a problem for a team like Florida.
Fox isn’t redundant with anyone lol, and definitely not for a reason as dumb as “he’s gonna break down in the playoffs”. He doesn’t even get touched.

Lindgren/Trouba/Schneider are the guys who will crumble against heavy pressure teams like Carolina/Florida. You beat them with players like Fox/Jones who can spring the Panarin line on a 3 on 2 with Sam Bennet full sending himself into the corner

Hoping the Pens beat Seattle tonight so Francis will fork over Wennberg. Henriksson/BMB and a 3rd for Wennberg at 50%?

I just wish we were playing the Flyers the first game of Mika March! He’s obviously going to be a totally new player on Saturday compared to the shit show we’ve seen all year!

Or Ullmark from Boston

As a Rangers fan Id prefer they get Ullmark. He thrives behind Boston's system. Swayman is clearly the more talented guy imo. I think a guy like Ullmark just makes the devils into a poor man's Carolina

Not sure but since the outcome of the game is determined by GPG, not EV or 5v5 GPG, I'm not sure how that impacts my point. I'd love the team to score more goals, and give up fewer of course, at ALL strengths, but my point is that this team does in fact score goals. Vali was remarking how we have 5 players with 15+ goals... that ain't bad. Two at 30 or better.

The point is, if you really want to win, you sould be as efficient at ES as you are on the PP and we aren't.

The playoffs reduce the pool of competition to the best 16 teams. Meaning PKs are much better (generally speaking) and hoping that the PP is going to carry the day is a very flawed approach to winning games.

Igor and the PP got a much less experienced and worse coached Ranger team to the ECF a couple years ago. There is no Tampa Bay Lighting dynasty standing in the way in the east, and we are the most talented team on paper in the Metro by a wide margin. If Igor and Panarin play this way in the playoffs and Mika starts shooting, I like our chances against anyone.

Its so odd. Twitter is the same way. The standards are so insanely high.
I have never see anything like it. A team that is on pace for it's 3rd straight 105+ point season, first in the division all year, first in the league in points, winning %, and wins. Do they have flaws? Yes. I'm not going to deny this, but they win. Do all teams have flaws? Yes. I just don't get the constant negativity no matter what they do. They lose 1 game in a month and people are losing their shit. SMH.

The Rangers could go 16-1 and win the cup and the 48 hours following that one loss would have more posts from some posters than all the rest of the postseason. Especially if their wins weren’t “the right way.”

We’d be starting the next season and you’d have people still flinging stuff in here like “they weren’t even a top 5 team last year, but this shit front office and bad team will get a lifetime pass for a fluke!”

It's actually special teams that are often the difference maker in playoffs. That 8th ranking is also with Bonino centering 3rd line for the most of the season and Goodrow with all of two goals for the season.

All other things being equal, special teams can be the difference.

Not sure that we stack up equally at ES scoring with some of the teams we may be facing in the Playoffs.

It's laughable. Some people need their phones taken away during games.

If Igor has a .940 sv% and the PP hums along at 30%+, I will grant that the rangers have a chance to make a run.

I believe we need to be better at even strength and be better at scoring off of OZ pressure and not off the rush.

If we are going to get bumped out early, I believe it will be those deficiencies that are the cause.

I completely understand the idea of getting him out of Anahiem and I also understand that the Rangers win and that's the bottom line for a lot of people.

Still, the reservations about Zegras are about his poor even strength play, and the Rangers aren't good at that either.

"We need a top six winger!"

"We need a top 9 center!"

"We need both and a 6/7 dman..."

But...

"Don't you dare trade Kakko!"

"Don't you dare trade Othmann!"

"Don't you dare trade our 1st!"

" Sykora and Berard are UNTOUCHABLE!"

Won't even go there with Gabe

" Maybe we can get something good for Zac, Robertsson, Goodrow and get "TUBA" or Mika to wave" lmao

I haven't missed a TDL here in almost 20 years, but this one here, I have a feeling is going to make NO ONE happy lol.

Somebody will be on the move. And it's gonna be someone we like. I can't see Drury standing pat here. Or getting a player remotely consequential with what SOME of us are willing to part with.

We have to at least be somewhar prepared with the knowledge that what the GM does here may hurt.

I think Drury badly wants to make a multiple season add, but he is at the mercy of opposing GMs with what they are willing to trade. Buchnevich and Vatrano are both top 6 caliber guys who have chemistry with the locker room and by all accounts are available. There arent many others who make an impact at that level.

Panarin is putting up non-McDavid MVP numbers, Igor has 1 year on his contract after this one. The roster and coaching staff know its put up or shut up time. I think Drury will try to get his depth adds out of the way early and work hard to the deadline for the final swing.

It's why post game threads are only 6 pages of complaining about Goodrow, Zib, Trouba, and Lindgren after a win as opposed to 106 pages of complaining about Goodrow, Zib, Trouba and Lindgren after a loss.
