....Because he's not likely to stay another year.
Says who? Jones was fine in the limited role this season. At the same time Gustafsson doesn't have a contract for next year. Same's for Lindgren (RFA with one more year who has underperformed for his role). That's potentially TWO open spots on LW with no shoe-in options including from Hartford.

July 1. Does Drury give Igor the contract extension? Why wait? Sorokin got $8.25M. Vasilievskiy got $9.5M. Bobrovsky got $10M. The cap will be $92M when the contract extension begins.
If Drury wants to test Shesterkin mental fortitude he doesn't approach him for the whole year keeping him in suspension till the last moment. Better yet - send an insulting offer using Georgiev as comparable lol.

They don’t. Neither do I.
Respectfully disagree on that. Dont think it passes the eye test or the fancy stats test too me. Giving up way too many SOG too. I think you can get some term bandaids at forward but the defense, especially long term; does not inspire me with confidence

Quick thought: #1 reason Verbeek shows up to the garden to watch the Rangers play is to publicly create leverage in negotiations with ANOTHER team.

Now back to your regularly scheduled speculation.
That means Vatrano or Henrique offers are not as lucrative as have been suggested.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
Fowler has turned into exactly who I told you he would be 10 years ago.

Sooner the better. The price will only go up.

Terrible? Did they pass on better options - were they forced make in-Conference trade for lesser value?
They should have waited another few days.

I'd move Mika for Zegras.
I think you let trocheck be 1c, zegras at 2c, it opens cap for a year, lets you deal with kk's salary, and lock him and schneider into solid deals, without weakening the team.

For bolded I think you meat to write "while significantly weakening the team". Also taking into account uncertainty about Chytil's recovery you'd potentially be looking at Trocheck - Zegras - Brodzinski - Goodrow center position (where's throw-up emoji when you need one). Found it 🤮

Who's outraged? Certainly not me.
Not you, obviously

Zegras is signed for 5.75 for the next 2 years.
Mika 8.5 for the next 5.

Zegras has similar offensive production at 5v5 to mika if not better (this season)

That extra 2.75 million is enough for a 3c with fc on the ltir.

Likely moving on from Goodrow so I’m just ignoring that one.

Hanifin's list includes both Florida teams, Boston, LA and Vegas. Frank reported Hanifin would sign an extension with those teams.

More teams are interested in Smith than Guentzel. Pittsburgh would retain 50%. $5M. One more season.

The Ducks aren't crazy about trading Vatrano unless they get an offer they can't refuse.

So dumb.

Good, I hope Anaheim keeps Frank, that would be excellent.

NYR are 8th in goals for. We can stop saying they don't score enough goals. Can we WANT more goals? Sure, why not? That would be great, but lets stop talking like this team cant score, they are like 0.35 GPG off of the lead...

Since most of the game is played at even strength, where do we rank in tjat regards?

I'd rather NOT give a goalie 8+ per year.

This team would take a significant step back all around flipping Mika for Zegras.

I'm just as perturbed with Mikas down year but Zegras has a ways to go

Don't mean to split hairs, but Mika has 6 years left after this one. Six short years.

The idea tjat Calgary made a bad trade is silly.

It's more likely that the offers were meh and this was the best they could do.

Rangers are 20th in 5v5 GF/60. So yeah they could use more scoring. Plus they are 22nd in xG/60 so it's not that they have been unlucky.

Had a feeling there would be a difference, but dropping to 22 is crazy.

We need RW capable at 5v5

Not sure but since the outcome of the game is determined by GPG, not EV or 5v5 GPG, I'm not sure how that impacts my point. I'd love the team to score more goals, and give up fewer of course, at ALL strengths, but my point is that this team does in fact score goals. Vali was remarking how we have 5 players with 15+ goals... that ain't bad. Two at 30 or better.

They could use more 5v5 scoring, sure. But they don't count any more than any other goals. And this team scores them. To the tune of eighth highest in the league.

Igor can beat the 10M Bob got if he wins the Cup this year. He shouldnt be lacking for motivation (not that Im implying he is)

What happens if we play a series against a team that doesn’t take a lot of penalties?
