He already rejected as much from VAN per reportsI like Zadorov in theory but he is going to get PAID by someone. I am guessing $4.5m over 4-5 years. That's steep for me and he is a penalty taking machine who doesn't defend all that well.
I like the idea of a placeholder there though. We've seen Lindgren there, find someone who can fill in a similar role playing 5v5 time and PK only
I’d take Zadorov at 5M over TroubaHe already rejected as much from VAN per reports
He's probably looking for 5.5-6M so I'd expect at least 5M to be in the competitive bidding range.Nikita Zadorov turns down contract extension offer from Canucks

Ill take a walking dead zombie over Trouba.I’d take Zadorov at 5M over Trouba
It you can magically shoot Trouba's cap into the sun, then by all means.I’d take Zadorov at 5M over Trouba
I’m all for reworking the defense and fine tuning the forward line up, but some of y’all better temper your expectations on the changes that’ll happen this summer if they bow out disappointingly.
Some of you are expecting a nuking of entire forward lines and half of the d-men without thinking about how feasible it is to backfill all these players.
which is why it's so hard to have hope for this org. I agree btw.I am fully expecting them to run it back with almost the exact same roster minus the usual depth tweaks.
In an off chance Panarin could be moved, I'd trade Gabe for TkachukI’d even dangle Othmann and Perrault for the right pieces
The plan was always for the next wave/Drury's picks to be slowly integrated in over the next 2-3 seasons. With no cap room and NMCs thats why he went bargain bin shopping last summer.I’m all for reworking the defense and fine tuning the forward line up, but some of y’all better temper your expectations on the changes that’ll happen this summer if they bow out disappointingly.

If Othmann is really going to ask out if he doesn't make the team, that's a problem. That's on Drury. He's supposed to fix drafting headcases like that.I’d even dangle Othmann and Perrault for the right pieces
I'm just tired of guys where there skating is meh or them being small. If Othmann is really going to ask out if he doesn't make the team, that's a problem. That's on Drury. He's supposed to fix drafting headcases like that.

I'd give him a B- in the AHL. Needs to work on his skating (not as much as Kakko but after the adrenaline wore off from his callup he was sluggish).I'm just tired of guys where there skating is meh or them being small.
We need guys that can impose their will. Othmann could be that eventually, he has the mindset.... his AHL season was disappointing to me
He'd get killed by this fanbase. It would be very similar to when Rich Pilon or Darius Kasparitus was here. But why? I get wanting a physical d-man but Zadorov isn't that good.

Chatfield is the way to go. I don't see him coming here (Detroit maybe) but that guy is a warrior and the perfect age/mileage.I get that he wasn't 'driving' play at all times but he still had 49 points in 67 games as a rookie. I mean that's not a disappointing season. At the same age, Kreider had 21 points in 48 games in the AHL.
This is going to be an albatross in year 1
Completely agree. The preference would be for a LD who is really good defensively but can actually handle a tough forecheck with the puck in their stick. I know that seems broad but it’s a specific type of player. We don’t need an elite puckmover.
He can skate which is a much better starting point. He showed up this playoffs. He's a 3 or more likely a 4. He might be a decent fit....But why? I get wanting a physical d-man but Zadorov isn't that good.
That's why I'd want to give the money to Chatfield. Great skater who blocks shots. He led the entire playoffs in shot suppression. Him and Jones in for Trouba/Gus and the D is slicker. If you want a physical d-man who is just okay at hockey go sign Brenden Dillon. He had 241 hits this year in Winnipeg, playing ~18:44 per game. He is likely to cost around $3m per season on a short term deal due to his age (33 years old). Compare that to Zadorov who is likely to get 5-6 years $ $5.5m and had 177 hits in ~17:44 average TOI.
Both guys can be a bit scary at times with the puck and neither provides much offense. Dillon blocks a shit ton more shots too, over double what Zadorov does.

He can't be hidden on D; too much premium skating is necFor me, both Lindgren and Trouba are the minimum.
I don't think you can hide Trouba.
He can't even go out there and play 18 minutes.
No, with rare exception(s) that prove the rule.I’d even dangle Othmann and Perrault for the right pieces
With the same results.I am fully expecting them to run it back with almost the exact same roster minus the usual depth tweaks.
all the times I've watched him, I don't see the complaints from people. I honestly don't watch him anywhere close to players on the East Coast though. His metrics were strong in CGY. He had a strong playoffs. Big boy for the boards and front of the net. Maybe even put him with Fox as he can skate and score goalsHis positioning is really bad. His 'flash' is great when he lights up someone but he's a bottom-pairing guy.
He can definitely skate though.
My argument isn't that he is worse than Trouba, just that I am not in a rush to trade Trouba and then find a guy who is only slightly better than him.
I mean that was Washington for a decade until Lars Eller/Devonte Smith-Pelley/Brett Connolly got X-Men powers for a few weeks. BTW, 2/3 of those guys are out of the league now. Some would even argue that Eller has one foot out the door. With the same results.
