The other thing is, we are basically playing with 11 forwards because we don’t have enough top 9 talent (this is because we cut off our rebuild too early).

Othmann, Perrault and Co are too far away. We are stuck with guys who don’t really make a difference (Vesey) or replacement players (Brodzinski) or guys who are too old or too young (Wheeler, Cuylle).

We need more forward talent.
Kakko not developing really impacted this as well.

What do you think we're trading for him and how does it make our team better?
The only untouchables for me are Shesty, Fox, and Laf. It should be pretty obvious how he would make our team better. We need to upgrade our physicality and compete level.

The Gorton regime had a pretty atrocious draft record that we are still paying for. Gordie Clark sticking around after the McIlrath debacle was insanity personified.

somehow ship Trouba out and get rid of Lindgren. sign Sean Walker. re-sign Gustafsson.

Jones-Fox
Miller-Walker
Gustafsson-Schneider

it's not perfect either but there's not much else you can really do

How does the team that lead the league in comeback wins not have a strong enough compete level?

Except it's not, because you aren't saying how we are fitting his 8.2 mil cap hit or what we are trading to get him. Adding a good player doesn't make the team better if you have to remove good players to do it. It also doesn't make the team better if we don't have the right balance in terms of positions and roles. Panarin, Kreider and Tkachuk make a combined 25.3 mil, and Laf is going to get paid on his next contract. That's a lot of money to spend on wingers.

He's also another LW. Could he move to RW? Maybe. Could Kreider? Well they haven't tried Kreider at RW for an extended period of time once in 13 years so I highly doubt they do that. Generally I find that once the player is on the team it makes sense to experiment with them in different spots since you already have them and how will you know otherwise? I wouldn't go out of my way to trade assets to acquire someone who doesn't play the position I need though.

Gus stinks. He's an offensive dman who has provided zero offense. Why would you want him back?

They no showed game 1 and the third period last night. They have also lost the vast majority of 1 on 1 battles in this series.

There is another team on the ice too whose job is to slow them down. That team happens to be one of the best defensive teams in the league. Seems a bit ridiculous to me to say they show no compete when they led the lead in comebacks. What about the big comeback in game 6 against Carolina. No compete there either?

What is your solution then? This core has shown time and time again that they can't get the job done.

THis is crack head stuff.

Is Lindgren staying? Because nothing they do this offseason will matter if he does.

If he isn't, you're looking to replace all 3 LD. Jones can step in for Gus, but thats just your bottom pair.

Whats the plan for the top 4 LD?
You get this guy then you figure it out.

Florida did it and they have OEL/Kulikov as the 3rd pair.

Just a very superficial view. I’ll put in my two cents after we lift the cup this summer.
My core four are Fox, Lafrenier, Miller and Schneider.
Love, love Igor but but love the Rangers more. A 11.5(minimum) goalie is not sustainable in a hard cap league.
Trade him this summer, sell high.

Miller should never be a core player.

But fox, laf and schneids are.

Miller has great skaring and size, but his hockey iq is poor and his puck skills are surprisingly spotty for a former forward.

I wouldn't call making it to game 6+ of the ECF not getting the job done.
You have lower standards than I do. At some point you have to win a title. 30 years and counting.

He isn't getting 11.5 mil. I don't know where you are getting that number.

Hellebuyck just signed for 8.5 x 7. Igor may get more, but it won't be 3 mil a year more.

If we trade Igor, who is our starting goalie next year?

The solution is to stop constructing rosters based on intangibles and spirit and gumption and start focusing on signing, drafting, and trading for players that are good at hockey.

The biggest thing would be to revamp the defense because half of our defense can't complete a pass. Its the reason we ice the puck 4000 times a game and cant move the puck through the neutral zone.

Edit again shout out to @SA16
Does Igor reside in NYC add another 3.876% to NY 10.9%(?)

Isn’t Texas an Income Tax free State?
If true 8.5 income tax state free = what in NY (if you know)?

Edit:
Tried a couple of sites, can’t confirm if they’re correct but it looks like 9.6 might be the equivalent in salary alone.
Of course there is more than just income there is cost of living to consider:

What does Texas have to do with Hellebuyck?

Like I said, superficial.
I think Miller is growing into his body. I would definitely not give up on him this early.
He has been adding physicality to his game.
Also Trocheck the “C” after we bounce Trouba.

lol. Thinking Oettigner. Still groggy from last night. Will have to redo my research.

I think people are missing the boat here in terms of the defense. In a NHL '25 game, of course the ideal world would have the Rangers with top-4 with high end names but in the real world, it's really not realistic. It's a process of building the team in specific direction and the d-corps really needs to be a good 6-man unit moreso than just two high end guys.

In no specific order:
Fox
Miller
Schneider
Jones
Roy
Dillon

It's not 'sexy' but there is enough there to move in a positive direction next year. That's not to say Drury shouldn't actively look for improvements, hell he should do that all over the roster, but there isn't some absolute mandate to go splurge on a high end d-man. Take what is available, move in a positive direction and see what becomes available in 6 months to a year.
