To me, Laf is a checkmark. 3 years worth of data projects him out to be significantly worse in the playoffs. That wont be the case and one of the flaws of this model.

Kakko does a lot, but he will need to produce and come up with some big goals for the team in the dance. Cuylle should be replaced by a top winger, so that should become a check mark. But regardless, with Chytils injury - the forward depth is really struggling in this regard. A healthy Chytil, with the way he was projecting may have put them over the top. Dont discount how big of an injury that is for this team. For all we know, HE could be this teams #1 center at this point, or something near it. Even if hes a #2, now you have 3 of them in your lineup.

The biggest issues are Trouba & Mika. Especially Mika. He has the ability but hasnt been the player they signed that deal to. He does a lot of things well but ideally hes a 2nd line center. 4 years ago he had over 40 goals in the same amount of games and was a scoring machine. They need that player in the playoffs, or something similar if they are going to win it all - and it needs to be consistent. Thats doubtful and a huge knock on their chances. They say Drury needs to find a winger for him to "unlock his potential". Im doubtful there's a solution in that, Mika is who he is.

To me, this team is good enough to get to a conference final. They could go further if Igor goes into God mode again, but the sum of their parts really isnt championship calibre. They could inch themselves closer by adding the right players at the deadline, but I still dont think that can make up for their shortcomings.

Unfortunately, when the shit hits the fan in the playoffs and the level goes up 2 notches, its a different game and their weaknesses are exposed. I know a lot of fans are gonna be jazzed up come April, as they should - but the fans who are really paying attention know this team/core has flaws and they'll need a little more puck luck and good fortune to get to 16 wins.

I also think Drury knows this 100% and its why they moved heaven and earth to buy a lottery ticket in Kane in last year. I'd expect 2 or 3 players to reinforce things, but they just dont have enough cap space to make much of difference. Listen, anything is possible and ill be tuning in like everyone else. But on paper things just arent there right now.

Stanley Cup Checklist Legend

Red X: Falls below the range entirely

Gray checkmark: Passable, but below the average champion

Black checkmark: Above average relative to the average Cup winner

Gold checkmark: Exceeds the range entirelyView attachment 825969
Florida is the only team with all the boxes checked
cool charts, thanks for posting. We do have the elite goalie, or at least now we do. So the biggest holes are Mika (Elite C), Trouba (No. 1 D), Kakko (top 6 fwd), & Lindgen (top pair D). The nomenclature is weird - it calls the 3rd & 4th D "top pair".

Cool how Washington is almost all pink X's.

Summing Gold & Black checks: FL 9, BOS 7, TOR 6, Pitt 5, NYR 4, CAR 4, NJ 4, NYI 3, PHILA 2, TBL 2, DET 1, DC 1

I was creeping their EP thread last night. I saw NYR mentioned a couple times. They want basically a younger version of Zibanejad (except one madman who proposed Lafreniere + Miller).

The Canucks are well within their rights to ask for Laf and Miller, and shouldnt take anything less. We arent getting Pettersson for Zibanejad & Trouba.

What are the chances of enticing Calgary to trade Sharongovitch? 25, one more year left making 3.1, has 20 goals this year. Maybe they figure they won’t be able to lock him up long term.

Trouba and Lindgren are the biggest hinderances according to that chart.

Agreed. We also did not need the analytics to tell us that.

Last 2 games:

Kreider Zibanejad Kakko Combined:
0G 0A 0PTS -2, 0 Fights, TOI 112:11

Rempe
1G 1A 2PTS +2, 2 Fights, TOI 10:14

Rempe putting up Kravtsov full season numbers

He was paid for what he did. You pay him that because of his past performance

E: that he’s not playing with Fox now is more an issue of how evey coach seems to think these pairs are just ideal and Fox needs stay at home lindgren who’s been getting his tires pumped for years

To say you don't pay a player for what you project him to be is simply incorrect.

The thing is Pettersson is going to make 12 million for 8 years on his next contract. If Vancouver is going to trade him they will have to take back some salary, along with the prime pieces that it would take.

Anyway it’s a moot point because NYR brass is in love with guys like Trouba, Lindgren, and Zibanejad and thinks our only weaknesses are RW and 3C, and that’s only because of the injuries to Chytil and Wheeler (who they also love)

No we don’t.

But just highlighting it for the crowd who thinks those guys are good.

The wear and tear has gotten to Lindgren. He was solid until the past couple years but its taken it's toll.

Trouba has been such a disappointment this year. He has always been overpaid but there are times when he has looked very solid as a Ranger. The way he and Miller defend their own blueline is sickening quite frankly. 2 Redwoods who refuse to play the man (unless they are putting themselves out of position). I think both players are capable of more, but we need to see it once we get to crunch time.

Why would Zibanejad and Trouba waive? I mean Vancouver isn't bad I guess and they are a competitive team, but they are in New York. Trouba specifically got away from Canada because his fiancée needed to work in the States.

They won’t.

Why tf does NYR have to give these guys NMCs? Especially with Zibanejad, do you really think he would have walked if they didn’t give it to him?

Lafreniere + Miller? I feel like that’s not enough from our end.
It’s more than enough.

His linemates right now aren’t anything special:

View attachment 826040
And yet more "special" than any of our wings at the moment outside of Kreider, Laf and Panarain... Laf would be gone, Pan soon, and Kreids will be 36 and reasonably declining. And I'm sure some of those 26 PPP come with Miller and Boeser...
This isn't moving the needle on my point. If we go for him we should be holding onto at least one of those wings.
