Goals are only part of the equation. Grabner has scored 35 points twice in his career. He adds nothing in the way of contributing anything to the offense of his line mates. Vesey playing on a line with grinders takes away from his game more than Grabner's. Fast or Desharnais can find a wide open guy going right by the defense, thats Grabner's whole offensive game. Fast and Desharnais are not going to contribute to a traditional offensive approach in the same way that top 9 players will. Part of this is about the future, as well. All things being equal or close to it, ties goes to the guy who's 24 on an ELC and you hope is a solidified top 9 player in a year or two. We can agree to disagree though, no problem with that.
Who cares about what number line he's on? I bet both bottom 6 lines get almost the same 5v5 usage.

I also would expect Jimmy to get PP2 time this season, maybe some PK time too.

I think its less about lines "1-4" and more about finding combinations that work.

KZB has more or less torn it up while together and Vesey-DD-Carey looked very good in their only showing. I know that its the smallest of sample sizes but it would really behoove the team to give them a longer look to see if anything is there.

AV runs a pretty even bench in terms of ice time, I'm sure Vesey will get his minutes.

Now the bottom pair D.... that is an issue and it will turn into a bigger one when AV pins Staal's mistakes on ADA and throws Holden back into the mix.

Where's his spot on either PP? I wouldn't even expect him to be next guy into the PP rotation. If they use the 4F, 1D set up, I think he's behind Hayes and Miller for PP time. And then, I'd also assume that the next guy they might add to the PP is another defensemen, whoever doesn't get PP2 time from the McDonagh, Skjei, DeAngelo group of players. I also doubt he's on the PK. He didn't play any PK last season, but maybe I'm wrong.

Finally a proposed trade with moving parts.

I still do not see Nash being moved.

I had Stastny on the list of potential deadline targets at the deadline a few weeks back. He is a free agent to be. I dont like the makeup of the Blues. But now Fabbri is out. And as you mentioned Steen and Berglund are banged up. This can go wrong fast for them.

What I would do is not what I expect Gorton could do. Two different conversations.

The lines will be fluid. I wouldn't get too worked up about anything. Chances are the lines we start the first game with will be different by the end of the game.

In place of Buchnevich just to piss you off.

The lines are fluid until Buchnevich ends up on the 4th and then we settle in.

Skjei and Tony should be a pair. They looked like PB&J when they played that preseason game together. Smith and Staal/Holden as the "veteran defensive shut down" pairing that I know AV loves.

I think the Rangers will be goalie shopping by Mid-November. Did not like what I saw from Pavs.

Keep an eye on Hammond or Hutton if Pavs doesn't fare well.

Exactly. People get swept away with this shit. Lines are always being changed. Some things will work and then they won't work. One thing that will kind of have to work up for us is Chytil or Desjardins. If either one of them puts up decent offense we'll be okay.

I feel like several of the forwards got sent down to see who has a Hagelin/Mitchell circa-2011 time down there while Chytil gets his 9 games with the big club.

He's here to be the assistant coach. NHL coaches get demoted all the time.

How's this for a conspiracy theory.

Maybe GMJG only hung onto AV after his unforgivable failures so he could trade away Stepan/Rannta while already having a scapegoat in place just in case things fail?

No assistant coach ever seems to work out under AV.

pretty excited to see a Chytil Nash Zucc line in the regular season

Good fit on paper.

Zucc drives play and Chytil looks like Zucc Jr. Should help Nash fill holes in his game.

Nash provides them with an elite finisher at even strength.

Vesey is on the 4th because of the Chemistry Grabner-Hayes-Miller had... they produced a lot of offense for the team last year, and will take advantage of the mis-matches again. With Chytiljuice, I think having him with the skill out there is a good thing, just hope that Buch stops feeding him the suicide passes. I counted 2 so far, but they look like they are developing chemistry. Top line.. if Zibby hustles... and I'd expect Zucc to get on his case if he doesn't, then that's a legitimate top line. 4th is questionable. Desharnais and Vesey would do better higher in the line up, but they may take advantage of mis-matches... question is... which line is going shut teams down?

Or will they keep rolling and hope that speed and puck movement wins out? I'm not sure I see a playoff team if they can't match up defensively. If you look at the Metro, a bunch of teams changed their d-zone coverage, it's going to be tough to score, and you can't bank on power plays.
