The Rangers have shown to be very patient with their young guys when they can be. McDonagh was touted as being NHL ready and spent some time in the AHL. Hagelin did the same. Lettieri, Pionk, Graves and Fontaine all looked pretty good in the preseason. Those guys need to play and keep developing for this organization to take a step forward. They did the right thing by sending them down to get minutes. Re-evaluate about half-way through the season.

If there is a player you want to trade for, it's Josh Leivo from TOR.

Fills multiple needs for the Rangers, and has 20 goal upside. Question is, do you help a team that you will be competing for a playoff spot with?

My answer? Don't trade them a defenseman. And they're going to want a defenseman.

It will be interesting to see things unfold, I think the Rangers will be screwed with their goaltending if Pavs shows the same output he did in pre-season. Bad rebounds, getting beat clean on shots, being out of position.... there's nearly 10 years of that at the NHL level... Benny's got a month and change to work his magic before it affects the playoff race drastically.

This is also the year where a lack of adaptability will hurt AV (and may get him canned).... outside of the Canes, it looks like every team in the division switched to a very tight zone defense (look at Philly, NYI, NJD), and that will make it hard for this Ranger group to score. Lots of 3-point games this season if that is the case.

I would outline the above as risks for this squad, it's not like the Rangers have 5v5 game-breakers that can score.

In his full year here Yandle got more power play ice time than any player on the team. That's just a fact. I don't know how anyone could state he was on the 2nd power play unit. It's simply not true. His average ice time was pretty much what Girardi and Staal were getting. The only D with more ice time than anyone else was McDonagh--as it should have been. Where AV didn't give Yandle ice time was on the penalty kill. He got just about 0 of that. The other part of that equation is Yandle was sharing most of his ice time on the left side with McDonagh--IMO the Rangers best player outside of Lundqvist and Marc Staal who was at least somewhat a passable resemblance of the shutdown defenseman he used to be--so Yandle was competing with two other known quantities for ice time. Add in that Yandle is not particularly good when he and/or his team don't have the puck--which is why he really got shortchanged on shorthanded ice time.

Anyway the Rangers are much better off with Shattenkirk--something that wouldn't have been possible had Yandle stayed a Ranger--there just wouldn't have been the money for both. Shattenkirk better player, right handed shot and a better shooter, better defensively, much better contract, even younger. Shattenkirk beats Yandle in just about every way possible.

He got the most time but he also got a lot of time on the 2nd PP unit with inferior players.

But I digress, Shatts is better than Yandle. Younger too, and cost less, and got less term

not seeing how to select reply for multi quotes

btaim be that as it may

McDavid - generational they are not trading him

deals seemingly attempting to spoof me --- ha ha, still have a sense of humor, but remember, being bernmeister is not something for everyone, nor something just anyone can handle.

McDonagh we should make a deal or not based on if it is substantial profit for us or not. Let's not presume either way return offers adequate to this or not

Nieves as 1c - that was before concussion history made known, which is significant overriding. I stand behind rest of it otherwise, Also, only if we got MacKinnon, with idea Kreider and MacK would do all heavy lifting on offense at min, so kid would only have to be decent pivot, win FOS, which he does, have size and speed to keep up, which he has.

Chara - yes, stand behind that, too, If you quote me, pls do so fully so as NOT to be out of context. I didn't one day say, hey, let's get Chara; this was in context of moving Girardi

Adding to Zuc + Smith deal
and Nash + pick for Fabbri + better pick deal,

do package
McDonagh + Staal + 2018 and 2019 2nds or similar
for
Liljegren, 2018 1st, expiring JVR, expiring Lupul, + Marincin

cap is ballpark =
we benefit from LTIR
Leafs can theoretically actually use Staal at 10ish minutes max on 3rd pair w/speedy partner, then buy out nxt yr

elsewhere move Holden for a pick
wind up w
Skjei
Graves
Beargloves
Marincin this year
Heiskanen
Liljegren next year
and possibly Day pushing for a spot

max flexibility
and we get a full yr out of Graves, Beargloves to see what they have

Ville Pokka is on waivers

Remember last year when we (as in us posters) were obsessed with trying to come up with a trade to get him from Chicago.

Meanwhile, Chicago basically gave Nick Leddy to Brooklyn for free.

Why can't you post anything that has a better chance of happening than lightning striking?

Yandle got considerable more time than McDonagh who was and still is the Rangers best defenseman. A case could be made against Dan Boyle who got the second most power play time. One person here the other day has already taken a shot at Brooks regarding his run in with Boyle. But Boyle was sat down for several games and pouted. One reason AV cited for sitting him is Dan was refusing to move the puck up to the forwards--he was going for a skate with it and wasn't doing as asked. Boyle also had a habit when he got on the ice on the power play of not leaving the ice and taking practically the whole power play. Yandle would have gotten more power play time if Boyle hadn't been such a turd.

Yandle is a good guy and a good player. He has some flaws--he's not too hot when it comes to playing defense. Give him as much power play time as you can--play him with offensive players and you'll accentuate what he can bring. Keep him away from the penalty kill and bench him late in games where you need to protect a goal. AV more than less did that IMO. I don't like the contract Florida gave Keith--at all. Too much term for an older and flawed player. OTOH I love the contract the Rangers gave Shattenkirk. To me it's work out beautifully in the end.

The only move I would have made would have been claiming Nolan, but they never had a chance with Buffalo putting in a claim. No reason to do anything else now.

I thought Fontaine began to struggle as preseason was moving along culminating in a pretty bad last outing.

Was totally wrong about which 1st rounder they’d keep and which they’d return, but I get the logic of keeping Chytil. I wonder how likely it lasts beyond game 9. Disappointed that Nieves sent down. Need to create room for he and Lettieri, Pionk...Bereglazov once acclimated to NHL rink

I disagree here on Pavs, I thought he looked steady considering not many shots faced. He looked calm, played deep in his net, you saw a couple of flashed of old Pavs but he was mostly composed. He's the back up, Benny will continue to work with him in practice and his game will only get better, it's not like Benny's work ends with the training camp. I guess only time will tell and we'll see once the game start to count but I think he'll do fine as the backup.

I just don't see them moving McDonagh/Zuccarello right now. Maybe after the season. If it were me, I'd listen, but I don't think they are actively shopping anyone of the roster. Wait and see how the team starts out, then go from there.
