Crazy idea - I think we should keep McDonagh and Zuccarello

McDonagh and Zuccarello are both signed for this season and next season. They are being paid 4.7 and 4.5 currently. McDonagh will be 30 by the time a new contract kicks in, Zuccarello will be 32. I want them both to stay here for their current contracts, definitely want McDonagh past his current contract, and am not sure on Zuccarello.

Assuming that you want to bring them both back after their next 2 seasons (assuming normal level of play for both of them and minimal injury/nothing serious): What contracts would you offer them?

This is open to more than just Machinehead as well, curious to hear the opinions (please don't bother if you're in the trade them away now camp, I've heard it).

I'm already cringing over the Hayes contract that hasn't even been offered yet
With the emergence of Chytil, I wouldnt be surprised to see one of Hayes or Miller traded at the draft. Could probably bring in another first round pick and a B+ level prospect for either one and keep the youth cycle movement going. We simply have too many middle-six centers.

Since Miller is a wing and Hayes was a wing not long ago and both are more effective as top-six wings and both are still young, I don’t see this happening unless their contract negotiations get heated.

I think Hayes is a lot worse at wing honestly.

On Miller, I agree with you. But Hayes isn't effective on the wing. He's been a center for (eyeballing) 90% of his games. I believe moving him to make room for Chytil and Andersson, while picking up a couple of valuable assets would be for the best.

Plus, we wouldnt have to see Hayes making close to 5 Mil a year.

Staal thinks he's playing "well". AV thinks Staal has played "well".

WTF is going on? I'm going to have to watch this guy in the top 6 where he has no business being. Love his Rangers career, but it's over.

Based on what exactly?

The sample size from when he has been tried there. He also doesn’t really have the mobility that the Rangers seem to look for in their wingers. Maybe if he had the right center but I don’t like the fit.

I'm sorry, but I don't really know what you're talking about. When is this sample size from?

Hayes plays one game here or there on the wing, has a bad game, and everyone concludes he's awful there. He's never had an extended period of play as a wing.

If Hayes can finally crack 50 points and show some consistency, he's worth 5 million a year.

You'd be paying Zucc until he's 38. No thanks.

Zooks, at 5'7" and barely 170lbs, has been a top line player in the league for almost half a decade now. He doesn't have great speed, or a great shot, is not out there to hit people, and can't be considered "elite" at anything besides the shootout. AKA, he's doing it all with pure, 100% hockey IQ, and BTW, has played a minimum of 77 games in a full NHL season. This is not the type of player that you worry about breaking down until, much like MSL, there's just that point where he can't do it anymore (at 30 years of age, this is a long ways away). And not to mention that he's a heart and soul player for the Rangers. I'd easily sign him to a contract where he can retire in blue, and he'd probably take a hometown discount. 60pt wingers aren't exactly a dime a dozen anymore.

True, which is why I wouldnt even entertain trading him until the draft. But if the same warts in his game persist, I'd rather trade him. Skjei, Miller, and Hayes will all command north of 4 million contracts. But if Chytil can replace Hayes in the line up, thats an extra ~4 million to throw in another area of weakness.
