Not very attainable. Quality good physically imposing Dmen are rare so teams keep them.

The Rangers aren't trading a top 10 player in the league for McDavid. The idea would be to add McDavid to Fox, not robbing Peter to pay Paul.

But yes, otherwise, a reasonable ask starts with Lafreniere, Chytil, two 1sts, and probably Othmann and/or Perreault.

The most realistic path to NYR acquiring McDavid is sending a bunch of futures and Chytil and Kakko Edmonton's way with Zibanejad going to a 3rd team he'd waive his NMC for, with what is acquired in that deal being parlayed as a part of the package to Edmonton. Zib isn't waiving for Edmonton.

I can see something like this in summer 2025:

One thing thats going to be an issue is Laffy is going to need a new deal in 2 years (the year before bread), and if he continues to improve, we're not going to be able to fit both without a massive cap jump.

I don't see a concern here. Although I do see yet another reason why the Rangers should be hesitant to give Lindgren his next deal.

I do not think they include Laffy in a huge package but the time to make a deal is now not 2 years from now imo. If you wait 2 years McDavid is 2 years older and on the open market. Zibs, CK, Trouba and Shesty are all 2 years older and probably past their primes. Bread may be gone. The next 2 playoffs (with McDavid) might be the best 2 year window to win cups we will have for a decade.

I'm more concerned with depth for this season than replacement. Off-season? Maybe.

I’d love a clear upgrade there but know it isn’t happening mid season if it happens at all. This organization just falls in love with certain guys and then does stupid things when it comes time to pay them.

FWIW I’d swap Lindgren with Jacob Middleton if the opportunity presented itself. Hes basically a bigger, tougher Lindgren.

That leaves a big hole on the PK but Pizza Man can probably fill that void with the savings. I think Lindgren gets moved in the summer, but i don't think its the best idea to disrupt the locker room in the middle of a season where the team is playing great.

The CIA releases national security info more freely than NHL teams about injuries. We will probably hear something when he is skating again which by the looks of that injury may not be until February or later.
