That leaves a big hole on the PK but Pizza Man can probably fill that void with the savings. I think Lindgren gets moved in the summer, but i don't think its the best idea to disrupt the locker room in the middle of a season where the team is playing great.
The flipside of this is that are you are going to possibly prevent the team from winning a cup because your top line dman is a black hole offensively and gets beat up regularly. If you are a GM and don't upgrade your team because a guy is well liked you should be fired. Make a trade now so the team has 60 games to move on and get chemistry with the new player.

You’d be trading for some one who can also PK.

Not going to find an upgrade in that regard though. He’s one of the best PK d in the league and one area where he’s been objectively awesome this season

I’d love a clear upgrade there but know it isn’t happening mid season if it happens at all. This organization just falls in love with certain guys and then does stupid things when it comes time to pay them.

FWIW I’d swap Lindgren with Jacob Middleton if the opportunity presented itself. Hes basically a bigger, tougher Lindgren.
Not just the org, he seems well liked in the "room" and I do think that adds an element of difficulty for GMs to trade a guy whom everyone seems to like having around. It shouldn't matter, but it probably does.

The simple solution to that is switching the pairs so Miller-Fox play together, which I have been advocating for since last year. Limits Lindgren's time in the O zone and increases KAM's.

Make a trade now for who exactly? You make it sound so easy. Lindgren is making 3 mil this year and is a solid NHL defensemen who is good defensively and a great PKer. Who is going to make such a huge difference and for how much? The guy takes a beating because he is willing to play that way and contrary to popular opinion he hasn't missed much time in his career even with missing 19 games last year.

They’ve traded well liked guys before. It’s risky to do mid season though because it can really throw things off.

Sometimes it works (Callahan).

With all the trade discussions one thing to think about is, who are you willing to give up?
Our A prospects are Othmann and Perreault. Any top 6 wing would require one of them and probably a first.
A middle 6 wing requires less. A top pair D is probaby the same as a top 6 wing.

Any contract that has multiple years will require even more.

Everyone talks about who they want. But fail to consider that we have to give to get.

I'm not particularly concerned with Wheeler's foot speed, the sloppy puck handling is what gets me and I'm honestly surprised since that's not a part of his game that you'd expect to deteriorate
That happens when you try to play faster than you can.

Wheeler never had perfect hands to begin with, and I think he's failing to try to match the tempo and style of two players in Kreider and Zibanejad who have some of the better hands in hockey, especially Z.

Wheeler, like Kakko, would do better on a line that is east-west, not north-south. We just don't really have one of those right now. He would have been a perfect fit with a Michael Nylander, Brandon Dubinsky or Artem Anisimov.

38 year old Blake Wheeler is our top line RW. Where is the surplus?

Actually, you're right. Forget I said anything
Surplus is we have mo F depth incl prospects than high end D depth
fact we did not trade Lindgren earlier to = selling higher = best return
and then developing Robertson is biting us in the ass.

It's not hard, just be honest and open minded.
We have Othmann replacing LaF and Perrault while we are getting also Pinto [likely worth keeping] and rental Tara. All that + we have separate deal to send Lindgren to Oil that moves Goodrow, replaced by Sanderson = 8 or so yrs after this top LD continuity.

Also does not count my adding something around Byfield for Shesty

Kreider - By - Zib
bread tro Ott/Wheeler
Cuylle - Chytil - KK
Pitlick - Pinto - Vesey

after all these years i still cant tell if bern is being serious or not

with that said the upgrade is RW1 and while id love to upgrade lindgren with hanifan for instance it will never happen.....hes loved in the locker room
bern always says what he means, means what he says
if I am sarcastic it should be clear enuf

as to rest of the post
1 man is not > than the team
love Lindy, his heart, but did we all not learn from Girardi?

By some miracle, turn Lindgren into Chychrun.

Chychrun Fox
KAM Trouba
Gus Schneider

I know it’s not happening but that’s it.
That would require too much overpay, not enuf value
better to do greater overpay and get Sanderson long term

Kakko for Seider
NO
I mean yes, I would, but not gonna happen

I don’t see NYR trading all that for one year more of McJesus than we’d get if we just signed him as a UFA the following summer. When Breads contract is up.
Agreed.
We should overpay less that amount and lock up Sanderson

One thing thats going to be an issue is Laffy is going to need a new deal in 2 years (the year before bread), and if he continues to improve, we're not going to be able to fit both without a massive cap jump.
Which is why including him on a deal w/Sandy locked up long term makes sense

Agreed, depending on currency involved in the deal
I think we can do a coupla big deals w/Oil send him there

But a primo D upgrade is gonna cost

The things being talked about are straight up insanity. Big D's, Sanderson being a realistic option (LOL), and needing another d-man before they need a RW1 to unseat a slow, on pace for 28-30 point Blake Wheeler. Let's get our priorities in order.
no LOL
Theory is OTT needs profit/assets, and there may be enuf we can overpay but live with which they will accept.

Yes, remains to be seen that sweet spot can be found, but
Be open minded, not dismissive.

excellent post
that is why my thoughts are sell high on LaF, add Per. +
it = overpay but should be enuf to get the stud 1LD type

Wheeler is fast and a good skater. You know who the slowest skating forward on the team has been? Panarin. Speed is overrated. Almost all big guys are called slow anyway. This happens in all sports. It's because they look slower since their strides are longer.

Go look at the Vegas, Tampa and the Blues. Even the Avs traded for Manson who gave them a big body on D. Do you watch the playoffs when the Rangers are eliminated? I can tell that you don't with that bullshit post.
I watched them last year get blanked twice and score 2 goals total in 4 losses. You’re telling me they get some extra goals if Mikkola was even larger?? Lol

I agree with that but that also raises the question is Gus better with Troubs? If people are upset about trading him imagine him on the 3rd pair with Schneider.

Sell high on Laf? He hasn’t reached his potential yet. Not close. It’s not as bad as selling on him last year, but it’s STILL selling low. He’s barely 22 and just finding his game.
We’re always lamenting not drafting enough skill, and you want to ship out the two highest skill forwards we have drafted in 20 years. We need the skilled wings more than we need another stud D. And your trade is BASICALLY Laf and GP for Sanderson. Pinto is nothing special, him and the pick swap would be close to a wash on their own. Maybe NYR adding a mid round if that was the whole deal.
Honestly it’s moot, because neither team would be too motivated to do this, and NYR would be totally adverse. Bad deal for NYR.
