The logical conclusion, IMO, is that this team sees Lias as an NHL player right now. I don't see any other outlook that makes sense.

Fine, but if he's not -which is very possible because he's a damn child- we have a problem.

The only thing making LA a child is his age. He's got a mans body and is pretty mature.

our center depth still is ****, but at least the defense is fixed. :dunno::dunno::dunno:

We're going from a 2A/2B/3/4 to a 2B/2C/3A(Miller)/3B(DD). It's not ****. Our high-end C is a little diminished, but not that much more than it already was. And yes, our D is astronomically better.

If Anderson steps in, that certainly solves a lot of problems.

It is becoming clear that they really believe he can, maybe even expect him to do so.

if Zibanejad gets hurt, Hayes is your #1. if Hayes gets hurt, DD is your #2 unless they move Miller there. how is it not?

Assuming an 18 year old who has never played above the Swedish league can step right into the NHL....

He'll be 19 basically right after the season begins, so using his age is all semantics at this point. It's not like he's 18 for most of the season.

Rangers will know if Lias is ready or not.

Just about every team in the league is ****ed when their 1C goes down. Absolutely Miller would shift over if he isn't already there, and Andersson called up if he isn't already there. DD will never be higher than 3C in worst case scenario.

The brain is 18.

Some kids are ready to be pros, and most aren't.

If he goes his first several games without a point, does he hang in there, or does it snowball? We don't know yet at that age.

I highly doubt the Rangers care about his out clause. This isn't a Zubov or a Gonchar. They're going to go with whoever plays the best. And with all due respect, a professional sports team isn't going to give a roster spot to a guy because a teammate needs a buddy.

Thats how sports organizations operate when there's no urgency. Same reason teams make sure prospects get 9 games instead of 10, they care about things like contract flexibility, contract dollars, waivers, maintaining control of players, trade value. If its close, Bereglazov will get a spot.

I also don't think it really matters. If it was a question of who do you play in the playoffs, the better player DeAngelo or the Russian guy to make sure he doesn't get angry and bolt back to Russia, I understand your viewpoint and think its probably even correct, although this is also just hypothetical, but that isn't the situation. Its the beginning of the regular season, I really don't think there are any GM's out there that would want to lose a player they think could be an NHL contributor just to get another player a few extra games in the NHL instead of the AHL. For all we know, Bereglazov earns a spot or maybe there's a Holden trade. I don't think we need to put the cart before the horse here. I don't approve of the job Gorton does and am usually very critical of him, but I don't think this is a big issue. I think Gorton will make the right decision here.

That's a good outline of proper asset management. It could very well be that Beargloves tanks in pre-season or can't adjust to the system at NHL speeds... this is a complex system they run for defensemen.

To give you an idea, they have different calls for defensemen taking on different handed skaters, it's not the simple collapse zone defense.

Some guys can't play well under this system. We've seen that.

It will be interesting to see if a guy like beargloves can adapt... if he can... then maybe the Rangers continue to fish for more European gems.

We got a lot of options. I'd give him a season of a guaranteed NHL roster spot, although not a guaranteed role, and then the next preseason, and if he is struggling, he can go. We have tons of other up and coming defensemen in the minors and system, we don't need to cater the team for years around a UDFA who isn't a sure thing, but I'd definitely give him a chance for this season. No real reason we gotta be so tough on him right away. But thats assuming he'll struggle. I wouldn't assume he'd struggle, I'd actually be surprised if he did. I remember the same conversation a year ago. People here were wondering if Buchnevich would make the team, and he did. These good KHL players usually don't struggle with the play on the ice. Maybe they struggle with the culture, the rinks, but those are secondary to either being good enough for the NHL or not. A guy who was the #2 defensemen for the Gagarin Cup runners up should probably be able to take regular shifts this year. If this was a 24 year old who took regular shifts for the Calder Cup runners up, we'd say he's likely capable of taking regular shifts the next season in the NHL.

Let's see, he's an interesting piece. Sometimes it comes down to systemic fit. I actually think there are a lot more Euroleague players players that can play in the NHL and we'll see more of them with the cap the way it is.

But it's different for defensemen. Much tougher position to play. If he comes in and blows away the competition, then you have a guy that helps the Rangers contend this year.

If that's ADA or Pionk, then great. Competition is good.

I've been tracking other leagues less and less, especially the KHL as well as you do... in terms of impact and comparable.. where do you think he stands?

Is it Malakhov without the puck skills?

Is it Malakhov without the puck skills?

That was before my time, sorry.

I really didn't know that much about him. I had heard the name and seen him play before, but he wasn't on my radar as one of the top potential KHL free agents to watch closely for. He seems to have went under the radar, was a big piece for the runners up in the KHL last year. But I did watch a bunch of him last year in the finals against Shestyorkin's team, Magnitka was way overmatched, but he was one of the best players from either team in the series, in a series with many NHL caliber players (Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Shipachyov, Dadonov, Shestyorkin, Voynov, Mozyakin, Zaripov, Lee), so it speaks well to his current ability. My read on his game is that he's a defensive type who's very bland with the rest of his game, but efficient enough. I don't think he's going to be the punching bag for icing the puck, not being able to get out of his own zone, but I also don't expect him to lead the rush, make great breakout passes, put up big point totals. So the hope from his game is like a more defensively solid and slightly worse skating Brendan Smith, which could be a 3D. The downside is a guy who's mediocre defensively, along with being bad with the rest of his game, maybe only like a 6/7D. Maybe current Staal is the downside?

I'm not all too optimistic about his game compared to some of our other prospects, but I think he's a lot safer than ADA, Graves, Pionk. He's shown a higher level than all of them in his hockey career, although there is definitely less offensive upside. But I actually think all these guys are going to be NHL regulars, and the team will have some choices to make, which likely leads to some of these players getting traded, probably Graves as the first one, and the odd man out of the other three next.

So far nothing impresses me about bereglazov. He's 23 year old KHL pro playing in a junior tournament. Should be dominant. I don't see it. Maybe this is why Holden is still here. This is a guy who's probably a 7 or 6th at the NHL level. I doubt we lose sleep over him heading back to Russia if anything. DeAngelo is on this team ahead of him and it's probably not close

Andersson I like the kid but to pencil him onto an NHL roster right now? Serious stretch.

There's a huge difference from the Euro leagues to the NHL. Nick Jensen is lighting that league up 2 weeks in. He's barely a 4th liner in the NHL.

I think we've left ourselves pretty short up front and I don't know why. We've got money to bring in another player so makes little sense to me

People read too much into this tournament. Every year. Yeah you want guys like Bereglazov to be dominant against less experienced competition. Yeah you want Andersson to look like a pro, since we want him to make it this year. But the reality is for a lot of guys these are the first competitive games they're playing all year, they're playing with an absolute mish-mash of talent and almost all their teammates are guys they've never played with.

So with all that in mind it's fine to analyze the performances of these guys in a small, pre-season, exhibition tournament with a bunch of random linemates, but it's unwise to take what you're seeing here and project it to regular season roster decisions and things like that. Let these guys get through camp and the exhibition slate before we start to really write a book on them.

1. Hope Beargloves makes a difference but he's a nice to have

2. Our centers are fine today if everyone is healthy, we do lack depth

3. I think we're still paying Brad Richards, so while not on the roster he's on da books

4. Lias is getting a long hard look that I think will go beyond 10 games if he can be loaned back to the 'Lunda

5. # 4 is the only reason I can think of why we haven't been aggressive on FA or PTO forwards

4. Let's get training camp started already!!,
