Meh i have never been a Kreider fan. He actually might be one of my most disliked Rangers ever.

I always have felt that he takes too many games off and is just too streaky.

His net front presence and pk has been good especially under Gallant. But he just always leaves me wanting more.

I also feel like he is part of the country club atmosphere.

He scored 50+ 2 seasons ago, basically farted out another 35+ season (which would have been an easy 40+ with even just normal PP shooting luck) and is the franchise leader in playoff goals. He's either scored or been right in the middle of almost every big playoff goal this team has scored since he's become a NHL regular.

How much more could you possibly want from him realistically? He drives me nuts with his tendency to float and his refusal to seal a wall but the overall package/production has been more than I think anyone could have hoped for when he was drafted.

This is a guy who has an outside shot to finish his career with 400 goals and will, health permitting, fly by 1000 games played. Rare player who has gotten BETTER with age.

I feel like hes one of the few in the locker room who actually visibly gives a shit. Hes also legitimately the only forward who has been at least decent for both of the last 2 playoff runs (he was almost our entire offense last year.)

considering how utterly disappointing his run with teh Rangers was I don't see why people keep thinking he's going to sign here again or why Drury would want to sign him
Amazing how willing people are the criticize Kane who was playing hurt the time he was here at the end of the season and yet everyone overlooks the fact that healthy guys like Chytil scored I believe only 5 goals in the last 38 games we played. The same guy people want to elevate to a top 2 line. There is such bias and lack of awareness in certain cases.

If Kreider leaves you wanting more there are probably about 10 other guys on this team that should be leaving you wanting a lot more.

Country club atmosphere. Sure Ok. This is a guy who has scored 90+ goals the last 2 seasons including the playoffs. There are a hell of a lot more players that disappear for a lot longer stretch of games. Look at our Kid line to name 3. Where was Chytil the last half of the season when he produced a measly 5 or 6 goals? And they were non existent in the playoffs as well.

What I learned about Some fans is that they never appreciate the good players here until they no longer are playing and finally realize what they brought to the table.

That is literally most every player in the league. He's a unique player. I would LOVE to had Buch still, and I'm hopeful the bridge wasn't burned so that when he becomes a UFA, he is an option to return, but if we go back in time and look at the decision, I can't fault it. I can fault the return.

I don't think he takes games off. However, there are plenty of head scratching times when you feel he could have gotten to the puck first, skated past a player with the puck, or made a better attempt on the forecheck than holding his stick up softly playing the puck retrieving player.

With that said, he's got fantastic net front and attacking the net qualities that should compliment other 5 on 5 players good at puck possession.

I think Kreider, @ 5v5, just needs to be deployed more appropriately. I think that is where most of the frustration with him stems from. Playing with Zibanejad makes no sense @ 5v5. He should be on a line that concentrates on winning puck battles, getting the puck to the point and going to the net. This is why he should play with Trochek who also should be playing a similar style. Playing with Zibanejad, who is mainly a player who attacks off the rush, is a poor fit for him.

Agree.

I hope Lav realizes this because the Kreider - Trocheck combination would be a very strong line within the system Lav wants to run.

It plays to Kreids strengths as well, helps stretch the ice for his teammates.

I tell you what I don't want to see ever is Panarin-Zibanejad-Wheeler and yet it feels like an inevitability.

This is a big thing. Kreider is money on the PP… on 5v5 is where i always had issues with him.

He is best deployed on a teams third line with first PP time. His unreal 52 goal season was 50% on the PP. he is best in the league front of net.

I think that is where i always had issues with him. He was a staple of our top 6 for basically his entire career, but really his play style is always of a bottom six type and most of his minutes 5v5 are just meh other than when he decides to actually use his speed.

But he also completely mails it in sometimes for many games at a time. Like completely invisible and not even using his speed or strength. He is either godly good or completely invisible which i tend not to like in players.

And yes i realize he has been good for the franchise, but that doesnt mean i have to like him as a player.

I mean some people want Panarin gone who is almost 100pt player. Some wanted lundqvist gone well before his final year. So people can have differing opinions.

I for one wont miss him when his contract is up. But that doesnt mean i don’t recognize how he did help the franchise.

How poor of a fit can it be when the line puts up results every year?

Last year - 53.3 CF%, 63.6 GF%
Year before - 50.2 CF%, 57.1 GF%
Before that - 48.2 CF%, 51.9 GF%
And before that: 52.1 CF%, 57.1 GF%
Another year before: 50.1 CF%, 55.1 GF%

Almost every year these guys are outscoring their opponents and every year the discourse here is that they can't play together. The only year they did not was 17-18.

Maybe people don't like the look of the line, or the style of the line, but they unequivocally produce and have done it year after year.

Almost positive you'll see that late in games if trailing considering it is their best LW, best C, and best RW all on the same line.

May I ask what he numbers are for Kreider-Chytil and Kreider-Trochek

No idea but they certainly won't be particularly meaningful since it will be a very small sample on both compared to Zibanejad/Kreider who have played together for 7 years and put up results consistently.

Not saying the other combos can't be better, of course, but there is nothing wrong with Kreider/Zibanejad as a combo.

Yeah, it was on the Athletic. It was somewhat speculative but there was definitely some smoke there.
Yeah. Much more of the "if I were Laf/his agent" type of speculation. Though Vally is a smart guy and if he says you should do it, you should probably f***ing listen. Haha

Kakko obviously saw the concern here about Laf not posting training videos, and told Rantanen to post one:

I think he has a big year. For all the shaved head Panarin talk and fat Laf, Kakko was mad after the season and I think he puts it home. 60 points. Also, he is the prototype player that Lavi has always liked. Big and strong for cycling the puck, responsible and a good forechecker.

EXACTLY

Throw Kaako on that line and we'd be cooking with gas
I was just going to mention that.

Part of me wants to see Kakko with Mika and Panarin to see him explode offensively, but I feel like if he was on the right of Trocheck and Kreider that would be a more effective line 5 on 5 and within the system they will be playing.

They would be a force in all zones.

Sporting tickets prices are particularly outrageous right now

I hope if Atlanta does in fact get a new franchise that the visiting NYR tickets are cheap.

Wonderful arena. Great food and beer, great view. I was there last fall. Vancouver overall is a great city in the two times I've been, the only issue is there is a tremendous homeless/drug problem. Walk a couple of blocks from the Pacific Central Station into Chinatown and holy meth clinics Batman.

Kreider basically went from being Duguay or Kovalev 3.0 to Steve Vickers in the span of two seasons. He's married now and is 32, one year removed from the Power Forward "31 Club". Will he be able to hit 30+ again or revery back to a 45-50 point player always leaving you wanting more?

One thing about him though is he has proven since he was a rookie that he can play in the playoffs (11-12, 13-14, 14-15, 16-17, 21-22, 22-23 are times he's shown it).

I knew what you were going to say before you said it. I've never been to Vancouver, but I've heard the same from a lot of people who've had.

I like the idea of Trochek being the puck carrier but within the zone, Kaako is the distributor for the other 2.

They looked good together in the time they were together and it helped balance the lines out, it would be a great spot to have Othmann if he were to make the team on the right side or even just Vesey would be a good fit there.

The guy who IMO would benefit most from playing with Zibanejad is Lafreniere. I think Laf could learn a lot from Mika including how to get the puck off his stick quickly and decisively.

Kakko is always going to be a protect-the-puck kind of guy, that's his strength at this level.

I agree, the very short time they were together was the best i saw Lafreniere move.
