I’d retain if someone is actually willing to part with something of decent quality. If his buyout cap hit is about 850k for a year, the only way I’d retain 2.4M and take the extra 1.6M cap hit is there’s actually an asset coming back. At 2.4M for the end of this year and one more, there has to be a GM out there who’d take a shot, but what they’d give up is the question.

We'd have to attach an asset to him to trade him at which point that team would likely buy him out. No GM is taking that into their dressingroom and if they did theyd be fired if it went wrong.

A real shame the kid couldn't just keep his opinions to himself, keep his head down and focus on his game. I guess I take comfort in the fact his baggage was factored into his acquisition cost and that we got some good hockey out of him before he imploded completely. Too bad we couldn't move him for something during the off-season as now we will be lucky to clear his cap hit without significant penalty in dead space or assets. As for Tony, I hope he can get his shit together.

Oh I understand very well. And I’ll even give you a pass as to why they wouldn’t do it now, but during the offseason ?

Do you understand that 4.8 mil for a 25 year old 60 pt right shot pp qb is a great deal that most teams would die to get if the guys name wasn’t Tony DeAngelo?

guys like that don’t grow on trees and they certainly don’t cost 2 mil per or less
Yup. If he wasn't a turd, there'd be teams interested in acquiring him at that price, when they still had roster flexibility to make his cap hit fit--or even sign him long term. But, he's a turd, so no one wanted to take that risk. And NOW, they might not want to touch him at all, until they can do a full, thorough vetting of him and what went wrong, and can sign him on the cheap.

Nobody wanted him the summer BECAUSE he would cost $4.8M... How can you not understand this?

If they wouldn't take him at $4.8M then, that number must have a tangible drop given the off ice issues.

It's not like we can be like, "ah, Detroit, you guys were right. We'll retain $1M like you wanted."

His value also plummets with this. Maybe to the point where no teams want to even bother trying to get it to work.

It depends. Self defense is a reasonable excuse. Also a guy with no prior history gets more of a break. We'll see what the team does and how they explain it all.
Just a question. If two players fight on the ice it’s not assault. Now if two players fight off the ice
Is it automatically called assault? Or only if someone is injured?

Him clearing doesn't make him "cancer", jesus christ. Stop shitting on the guy, he already got his due.

This simply means that nobody wants him for just under $5M against their cap.

A contract swap or a 50% retention deal is still very much in the picture

Not sure there's a team out there right now that is open to having their locker room turned upside down by a player determined to push out (to the point of physical confrontations) contentious political conspiracy theories.

So I have some insight into this realm in general. The standard to defend yourself isn't a high bar. Tony blocking his path, invading his space, intimidating, and possibly choking (alleged at this time) is more than enough justification for Georgiev to defend himself. If AG threw a punch over an obnoxious comment, then you are right.

People think it's a line, but it's a spectrum and your response is like a seesaw. That's kind of why I wanted to wait for the details. People can find my response yesterday where I kind of predicted how it played out. It made the most sense based on how it was unfolding.

I don't mean to lecture. I'm just clarifying why Georgiev is probably fine if he threw the first punch.
I’d this happened in the real world out on the street they would have both been arrested. Cross complaint.

It's automatically assault in my opinion, but I would guess that it gets settled as a team matter most of the time.

Assuming you still mean at the rink.

I would think you could file assault charges. I also think, unless there was serious physical harm a hockey player would not do that.

this post is why all the "Let's just see WHAT exactly was said" was a bullshit stance. There's always going to be people that will just flat out say whatever it is he did or said isn't bad. You've logged on today and blame Georgiev and the media. Yes Tony BUT what about!

The team just lit an asset on fire and put him on straight up waivers, 8 games into a season, because he was that awful to be around. But they'll always be people white knighting for this dude.

A lot of people were defending him from casual accusations of racist bullying based off of reports by Herman and Shapiro plus that BS the TSN reporter was spouting about.. Most of us would happily move on from Tony and indict him for the mess that he was.

I'm pretty moderate but I'm not seeing how you can make the claim that there isn't a big race problem in this or most other modern countries. There's a lot of research on this that exists already.

Its called being Woke

To be fair, being vocal about racial and social current event issues is not the same as making racial epithets, slurs, or otherwise being harassing on the basis of some protected classification.

I think Edge confirmed that all prior indications were that he did keep the politics generally under control prior to about 6 weeks ago so in my estimation this is the first new info we have about him not getting along in the locker room.

And no it is not exactly surprising to me that he wasn't able to shut the F up about politics in the locker room, given his twitter behavior, but most of my contention with what you had previously posted centered around the contention that he was, or was acting like, a racist or bigot. Those two things aren't the same and one is infinitely more believable to me than the other.
The guy has spent the last six weeks bringing up race in America out of context at his workplace. I'm sure that's entirely in good faith and he just wants to learn.

So now that's cleared waivers as expected I'm curious where the Rangers go from here. Just pay him to stay home?

Remember when guys doing things like Tony is doing were just considered pieces of shit and everyone agreed and moved on?

Now you got this both sides whataboutism for everything. Even for hockey players.

“What about georgiev?”

“Tony’s not a cancer teams like him I’m going to Ignore everything I know about them not wanting him for free or in a trade even though he’s a super talented player and believe that because hes like me”

“Cuomo and the lockdowns caused this rage”

No sorry at some point people have to start taking responsibility for their actions again.

I'm sure it's absolutely not in good faith, but it might be misguided political infighting rather than racism. Stemming back to some of the very conversations that have taken place on this board, some on the right feel persecuted as a result of the race debates happening in this country right now and push back against the direction of those debates could be both divisive and harmful in a locker room context without being motivated by racism. Again given the reports that he apparently has no issue with Miller but apparently a pretty big one with Georgiev would lead me to believe this is a political divide not a racial one. Still Tony being stupid and he deserves the blame, though.

i keep going back to DQs comment

“In 24 hours we’ll probably be able to be more specific and address the situation differently.”

There is something to this comment, expecting some kind of action from the Rangers/Quinn whether it be an announcement or another move/explanation
