A lot of these issues stem from the insane lockdown measures in NY and NJ... It is VERY hard for an extraverted person to live a normal life when you aren't allowed to go out freely (e.g. you can't just hit the bar, you need a reservation)... I happen to agree with a lot of Tony's beliefs, and I'm also a loud extravert.... trust me, these conditions of this "pandemic crowd control" absolutely ruin these types of people if they are not mature enough to handle it -- I've had my own share of frustrations in the last year, and it's even harder if you're someone who is very much about having an outgoing social life.

Tony will grow from this, I fully believe his career is not done, there is a deal for him out there -- him clearing waivers is likely more of an indicator of how many teams can't take a $4.8M contract on their books right now...
I'm sure he's not done. However, if he continues to be a bigoted child, his next team will take issue and eventually, he will show himself out of the league. Your excuses for him are ridiculous. We are all dealing with the same shit; none of it is an excuse to do what he has been doing and did with Georgie.

To be fair, being vocal about racial and social current event issues is not the same as making racial epithets, slurs, or otherwise being harassing on the basis of some protected classification.

I think Edge confirmed that all prior indications were that he did keep the politics generally under control prior to about 6 weeks ago so in my estimation this is the first new info we have about him not getting along in the locker room.

And no it is not exactly surprising to me that he wasn't able to shut the F up about politics in the locker room, given his twitter behavior, but most of my contention with what you had previously posted centered around the contention that he was, or was acting like, a racist or bigot. Those two things aren't the same and one is infinitely more believable to me than the other.
Great point and appreciate the perspective. People need to understand this

I gave you one example, I can't get into it here but the short version is that we are constantly bombarded with COVID news and then with all of the closures around THIS specific area it is very difficult to live a normal life -- i know PLENTY of people that went to Florida to work from home because the restrictions here didn't let them live the social life they wanted to live.... It's more than restaurant reservations... No sporting events, long lines to get into grocery stores, not being able to get a reservation because of filled up restaurants, no rec sporting events for normal people (I myself play volleyball and Ice hockey -- not so for the last year)... All of it wears on you after a few months, and we're in month 11 of "2 weeks to slow the spread".

I'm not excusing Tony's behaviour... This is just a different version of Lias Andersson becoming absolutely degraded in the rangers lockerroom because of his mental health issues
there's a difference between mental health issues and being a raging idiot with patently stupid beliefs that you won't shut up about

unless they also want to remove Georgiev, I don't see this as an option.
So I have some insight into this realm in general. The standard to defend yourself isn't a high bar. Tony blocking his path, invading his space, intimidating, and possibly choking (alleged at this time) is more than enough justification for Georgiev to defend himself. If AG threw a punch over an obnoxious comment, then you are right.

People think it's a line, but it's a spectrum and your response is like a seesaw. That's kind of why I wanted to wait for the details. People can find my response yesterday where I kind of predicted how it played out. It made the most sense based on how it was unfolding.

I don't mean to lecture. I'm just clarifying why Georgiev is probably fine if he threw the first punch.

He's not a "bigoted child"... you need to chill the f*** out... This has nothing to do with politics -- this is a territory that he shouldn't have brought to work, that he should not have picked, and he paid the price.

I'm inclined to believe that Geo lost his cool over a comment -- as per the Friedman podcast... That's not OK, he needs to be suspended for that.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the rationale that a team would not take him off waivers, but would trade something for him?

Retaining salary?

A like for like headache/contract they don't like?

A lot of teams flat out can't claim him because they'd be over the salary cap.

So in theory if NYR retained half, there might be some interested parties.

That said, there are some teams that could have taken him at his full hit, and that no one did isn't a promising sign about how he's seen around the league. I mean look at it from the perspective of one of the teams with cap space- he's a free asset, RFA at contract's end, and is coming off a huge season.

DeAngelo's cap hit of 4.8M is very high, and if he's not going to improve defensively like we thought he might, it's too high for what he brings on the ice. The only teams with enough room for him were Kings, Devils, Sens, Wings - young rebuilding teams where he's definitely good enough to play, but it's not worth the risk of adding that element to a locker room that's probably a lot like ours.

IMO he can still be a success on a "contending" team with veteran leadership that can tell him to shut the f*** up. These teams don't have anywhere near enough cap space to fit the 4.8 ticket, so they would need us to retain salary on DeAngelo and take a player they don't want - Victor Mete, Sam Bennett or whoever. I think it's a cleaner way out than keeping him in purgatory for a year and buying him out.

Geo is an underrated piece of the story here. This guy needs to be dealt with... Tony can say whatever, but the fact is that Geo is the one that stepped into this too -- internal suspension for 5 games should be the least of his punishments
More excuses. Tony is getting the brunt of this because he has been a problem his entire adult life and hockey has saved him. Now he is crapping on hockey because he cannot control himself. We don't know the facts yet and I hope we get them. If Geo threw the first punch, he needs to be disciplined. Let's see what comes out before that happens. What we do know is that Tony is a cancer, always has been, and likely always will be.

nobody NO ONE wants a 25 year old 60 point right shot pp qb at under 5 mil per on a two year deal with club control and you think it’s not cause he’s considered a cancer? Gotta be kidding yourself because certainly not kidding me.
yeah its even more than his antics.

He's a 50pts d-man who is bad defensively. He will be on a 3rd pair of any good team. No good team has that cap space or needs that type of player.

With current economic issues, a bottom dwelling team isn't freely going to hand out $10M, while they're hemorrhaging money.

his antics and locker room presence is a major issue, dont get me wrong, but it's actually even worse when it all comes together..

Is he worth all the trouble to make it work in the current setting? no.

FOUR teams can take Denagelo's full contract right now. Those 4 teams passed on him... The other 26 teams may still be intersted, but not at $4.8M

Money for money. Most teams can't take DeAngelo's contract whole right now. They also know the Rangers are under some pressure to move him.

I'm pretty sure Gorton has been fielding a number of phone calls.

Remember it only takes one team.

I know that Herman has been blasted and on the fire for his story, but has there been anything said/etc about the tweets from TSNs Salim Valji?

He was boarder line gaslighting.

No NHL GM would want him in their dressingroom after this episode.

Yeah, he won't be traded anytime soon. This whole situation is going to have to blow over and cool off for a while I would think.

This guy just choked out his goalie and has a history, even with his talent, I don't see anyone going near him for a bit.

It's not even the finances, I would believe this even if he was on a rookie deal.

Yeah, the idea would be that they might be able to get him with salary retained, or that the could send a bad salary back. I don't think either happens but that's the speculative scenario.

Assuming the Rangers don’t take back a boat anchor of a deal in return for DeAngelo, I’ll chalk up anything they get in return as a win
