Could they be in talks with ADA's agent to discuss having ADA not report to Hartford so they can terminate the contract? Or is that considered collusion?

Seems so unlikely ADA would agree to terminate the contract. This contract is far and away the biggest payday of his career and he's not going to get a replacement deal anywhere near that right now if it's terminated.

Why in the world would ADA agree to that?

There is a contract, the Rangers are obligated to pay on that contract until the next buyout window.

We just saw that every GM in the league believes he is not worth that contract. There is absolutely zero reason for ADA to agree to a contract termination.

I really don't get any pleasure out of someone f***ing up his own life which is pretty much what Tony has done here. I don't agree with his political takes and there wasn't anything really wrong with the result of the Nov. 3 election. That the lies about this continue to permeate throughout our society is not helpful. So many people do believe and are obsessed with these lies though. Tony's not the only one. For them I hope some rationality returns. I'm not after his career but it's clear he needs a real time out to get his act together. As a Rangers fan I've moved on from him.

JFC Tony. He should at least have a few millions in his bank account. Maybe he can still get in on this recent meme stock frenzy, because he will be unemployed soon.

Good for Trouba (been a strong supporter for him as C), and Miller. Two great character people, and back up their ****. I hope the team can rally around this terribly sad, and disappointing situation. I hope Quinn, Gorton, all the management can pull everyone together.

What was the reason they didn't just release him unconditionally?
To do that, the end result would have to be a mutual contract termination (not happening) or a the Rangers unilaterally terminating his contract, which would be messy, would be grieved, and may not be something they're able to do--would depend on the level of his transgressions.

And why would they want to commence their franchise with a locker room cancer?

I hope he finds a team with a good coach and strong leadership. Figure out that he should be focusing on his own business as a hockey player and just play hockey. Something all of us on this board in sure wish we could do or could have done. It's too bad that didn't happen here as he is a talented player.

It will be a waste for his talents to be unfulfilled because of politics getting in the way.

I would retain money if you get back an asset you actually want. Like, a decent prospect on an ELC or who isn't even signed. If you retain $2.4M you save $1.6M and something like $2M as opposed to a buyout but also obtain an asset. It would have to be a worthwhile asset, though, not some D-level prospect who is 24 and in the ECHL.

Woohoo! 31 GMs agree with you! They don't by the way. Once this cools off and he's available as a cheap free agent, GMs will call him for his services regardless of his politics.
Then they’ll do so at their own peril. His “services” are not worth the headache. I hope he gets some help and atones for his behavior, but if any GMs call him before he does that they should be embarrassed.

Setting aside the question of whether you have the right (or obligation) to use your platform as an athlete or entertainer to be political, I really wish they would choose not to. It's almost entirely divisive. You aren't educating youth, that's what parents and teachers are for. The amount of people who take their cue from Lebron James or Tony DeAngelo should be minimal. Complete strangers who you have no idea what kind of people they really are or what their motivations really are. Politics should be from people you trust.

No, this is how you get stuck in a bubble. The more exposure you have to different people’s experiences and opinions, the better.

Ada will sign somewhere for a mil or so after the buyout and begin rebuilding his career, it just won't be here. Peace!

The question is does some team like Tony enough to roll the dice and have him for the foreseeable future?

A team that likes him could wait it out until the Rangers buy him out but he may not want to join that team

The other thing question is does a team like him enough where they could move salary they no longer want for him but bring a headache into the room?

Tough to say at this point, my bet is on the team just telling him to f*** off until the summer and buy him out

He's gonna use this experience, get his life on track, bounce back in a meaningful way by running to be your congressman New Jersey!

His family members have an ugly history of racist tweets. He better move way south if he wan'ts any chance at that.

Did not realize he was bringing all of that crap into the locker room. I guess the money and podcast got to his head lol.

Alright time to move on. Sucks we probably don't get anything and have to buy him out but let's keep it positive, maybe this brings the team together. K'Andre is officially the best guy on the team at this moment. Hope one day him and Fox finish 1, 2 in Norris. We have an open spot for Nils now. Just need to figure out coach and 2C going forward.

Not happy it happened but maybe this gives Georgiev a few games off and now Shesty can get into a rhythm.
Nils or Schneider. I see because of his style, Schneider being ready next year.

IMO it’s not a issue of politics it’s just an issue of personal conduct and political topics are the things he’s acting poorly about

I’m certainly no lawyer, but you’d have to think the Rangers have a decent case for terminating that contract once it involves “assaulting” another player. It might not matter what ADA wants to agree to.

Him clearing doesn't make him "cancer", jesus christ. Stop shitting on the guy, he already got his due.

This simply means that nobody wants him for just under $5M against their cap.

A contract swap or a 50% retention deal is still very much in the picture

All of the contractual stuff is lost on me, for whatever reason I had the idea of a 2-way contract stuck in my head and thought his salary would have been less if he reported to HFD. I figured he already wasn't going to report, and he clearly thinks very highly of himself and that he could get paid more overseas and play.

I agree that a wise person should seek out different experiences and opinions. I simply do not believe they should be seeking out the experiences and opinions of celebrities which are actually shockingly uniform and un-diverse, and all come from a perspective of wealth and power and often bias. As such I wish more celebrities would choose not to share as the result is mostly divisive and not unifying or in the end particularly educating at all. In the alternative I wish they would encourage non-political expansion of the mind rather than advocating for actual political positions; ie, supporting like, Ted Talks or something, I dunno.

Since there may have been an assault, I imagine the rangers could suspend him for the season. Does that remove the cap for the time being?

I am a right leaning libertarian, and although I have nothing really in common with Tony’s beliefs, I know plenty of young men who are pretty close, particularly some of the younger guys I led in the military, who are really into the online theories and MAGA hype. As much as I would like to think Tony can grow from this, I actually do believe it will galvanize him as believing that anyone with a right leaning perspective is a victim and that they’re being cancelled and silenced. Unfortunate. I manage to get along in every single environment without my political leanings or musings ever having an impact; in fact I’d wager 80% of people who know me would say “I don’t know what his political views are”. DeAngelo is a world class skill who will allow his young, misguided understanding of socio-political interaction to ruin his career.

A lot of these issues stem from the insane lockdown measures in NY and NJ... It is VERY hard for an extraverted person to live a normal life when you aren't allowed to go out freely (e.g. you can't just hit the bar, you need a reservation)... I happen to agree with a lot of Tony's beliefs, and I'm also a loud extravert.... trust me, these conditions of this "pandemic crowd control" absolutely ruin these types of people if they are not mature enough to handle it -- I've had my own share of frustrations in the last year, and it's even harder if you're someone who is very much about having an outgoing social life.

Tony will grow from this, I fully believe his career is not done, there is a deal for him out there -- him clearing waivers is likely more of an indicator of how many teams can't take a $4.8M contract on their books right now...
