It’s pretty predictable what happened. Tony had his off ice beliefs but as Edge said they were kept out of the room. He’s playing great and everyone is happy. Then as time goes by it starts to seep in to the room and guys who were happy letting things go and just rolling their eyes and shrugging it off, now have been doing that for 2 years and it’s been building up. Then Tony starts playing like shit, has an altercation because he’s frustrated and can’t contain himself and his teammates who have been building up their anger at him for 2 years worth of looking past things now explode. It was a powder keg ready to blow.

That’s what happens when you have a toxic person in the room who isn’t really doing anything to address his behavior but more so just pushing it down and the team putting significant onus on his teammates to not focus on that stuff. You can’t tell me all of his tweeting doesn’t get added to a bank of frustration in the minds of guys like Kreider and Trouba and Mika. Like even if they like Tony it’s very easy to see how this situation of resentment can build up and Tony not doing as much to control himself bc he’s frustrated and the teammates now not biting their tongue bc they’re frustrated with all the losing. And the incident with Georgiev is like lighting the match and tossing it on the wood pile.
I love Tony, but I wish I could like this post 1000 times. I’m frustrated with him too. Very frustrated and disappointed. I don’t blame anyone who is pissed at him. I just don’t like the speculation about shit we have no evidence for.

Tony has issues imo. Anger issues to be more specific. And I feel sorry for him because that shit isn’t easy. But it’s HIS responsibility to get help.

To this point, ADA's personal life and beliefs have been separate from his locker room interactions.

In recent weeks, there has been a breach of that separation. The problem is that it's been...abrasive and causing problems behind the scenes. To this point, it's been an annoyance. But last night's altercation apparently goes beyond just Georgiev.

It was the way he went after Georgiev, and the way he reacted to those who jumped into separate them. The latter almost led to another altercation in the locker room.

Basically, Tony is f***ed because he cannot control himself and now it has become a locker room issue.

As for the state of the Rangers, views around the league are nowhere near as bleak as the board.
Thanks - as usual - for the amazing insight, Edge!

Racist names were used as well from confirmed reports. And I can just replace AHL with pre-NHL... the lengths you are going to, to defend him are really quite revealing.

You're going to need to provide those confirmed reports, because the ones linked in the thread that got closed down didn't indicate the kind of slur at all. I've literally never seen anything other than fan speculation on the allegations of racial slurs in ADA's background, and again, that would be a REALLY odd thing for him to do on an all white team that year.

Also, not saying whether Herman is credible or not (I don't know a ton about his history, but he does seem to be easy to wind up on Twitter), but it's important to note that he said people were concerned with the way he was treating Miller. He said nothing about race. It could just as easily be over-the-top rookie hazing or something similar. All of these possibilities are open, but it's important not to jump the gun until we have anything more than speculation.

Why would you assume that? Do you know the guy personally?
Do you? I’m going based off the fact there’s zero evidence of what you’re suggesting. Quite the opposite actually.

-Tony said he is more open to listening to black people about BLM
-He defended K’Andre and said he’s more than welcome on the team after the zoom call incident with the fan calling K’Andre a racial slur
-Even something minor like getting the puck out of the net for K’Andre and being visibly ecstatic for him after his first goal

I grew up at a hick public school where slurs were common too.

Took me like a week to grow out of it once in college.

Same. But we went to college. People think that kids become more socially liberal in college because professors brainwash them. As a professor, I've got to tell you, if I had the power of brainwashing, I'd use it to make sure the students actually did the reading, haha. When you come from a town like mine (with no, or maybe one "token" race other than white), college QUICKLY dispels all of the assumptions about race that we were raised to have. Most of these kids didn't go to college. They went to juniors and then the minors of the whitest sport on the planet. That's not excusing it, but there are teaching moments and there are "you are dead to me moments" and--as a gay man--if I always opted for that latter option, I wouldn't have all that many people left to talk to, haha.

I don't really post about sources and people I know with connections so you can take it with a grain of salt if you like but the part about Georgiev and DeAngelo not liking each other for years is accurate. Apparently it hasn't been a secret to anyone within the org.

As for the K'Andre part, that I've got nothing to offer. Not in a good way or bad way, just the people I know wouldn't know anything about it. But it definitely wouldn't shock me given who DeAngelo is.

ADA was on ice for 4 or 5 goals against and wasn't really at fault for them so I guess I can understand his frustration with Georgiev. What I don't understand is why Kreider had to get involved and why ADA had to be waived instead of traded.

Can buy #1.

#2 sounds like a crock. Dude went out of his way to make sure he got the puck for K'Andre's first.

Eh it's entirely possible he did some shit t K'Andre like bad locker room jokes and giving him a hard time and saying "just hazing the rookie no big deal!" that really did bother other people but that DeAngelo also truly was happy for Miller to score his first, etc etc.

Like...that doesn't mean that ADA was throwing racist threats at Miller or something but that he could have been going over the line in "rookie harassment" and it was bothering other teammates and maybe bordering on inappropriate

It's not a claim I'm gonna stand up and defend vigorously without some other corroboration but fetching a guy a puck after his first NHL goal doesn't mean they were besties in the locker room too.

I mean Herman reporting that someone has mentioned they don’t like how Tony has treated K’Andre could technically be true but more in the sense that he’s been an asshole of a veteran to him or has been ragging on him in the room. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s racism or anything like that which you know is the implication Herman is making.

Even at his best as far as being a teammate goes, Tony seems like the loudmouth type. So it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s been ragging on the new rookie on D and it’s normal veteran/rookie stuff between the players but that some ppl in the organization don’t like it. Not even trying to defend Tony one iota here I just think that would be the most reasonable truth.

Yeah this stuff. DeAngelo seems like the kind of guy who will jokingly be an asshole and when called on it be like "I'm just joking why are you getting mad bro jeez"

Tony has been smart enough to mostly watch himself on twitter from the bare-faced stuff but his family, not so much. I'm not gonna post it here, but anyone can feel free to PM me.

And he was definitely suspended in juniors for using homophobic slurs. I have a hard time believing he would never be racist.

There isn't evidence that anything specifically happened with K'Andre but I don't get how people are astounded that this is coming up.

No other Ranger in my lifetime has been accused of it in this way. Do you think everyone is just out to get this guy?
