Mika - two way Swedish center, drafted #6 2011, broke out after trade, 548 games, 384 points, 27.5 years old

Elias - two way Swedish center, drafted #5 2013, broke out after trade, 525 games, 320 points, 25.5 years old

At Lindholm’s current age, Mika’s career high was still the 51 points he put up in Ottawa. Lindholm already has a 78 and 54 (in 70) season. Mika’s career points per game only takes off these last two years of 74/75 points. Their D+2 through D+5 seasons are almost identical. It comes out to 45.22 for Mika vs 43.33 points per game, D+6/7 is 53.8 for Mika vs 71.6 for Lindholm.

Lindholm is a very similar player who was rushed by Carolina but rebounded nicely. His contract is great. I don’t know what the cost would be, but that’s a guy I’d be okay moving DeAngelo for. His name is only on my mind because several pages back Hanifin + Lindholm was a hot topic. I don’t know where it came from, but I’d certainly be okay with it.

The NYR called about his availability. They are clearly interested and its their job to make it work. They wouldnt call if they didnt think they could.

As I will reiterate for the 3rd time, I dont know how I feel about Eichel. I am unsure what side I sit on for this. But there is clearly some smoke there. So do we not discuss it because some of you dont want it to happen? Or do we talk about considering this a roster building thread...

What don’t they say? It literally says the NYR were one of the teams that called regarding availability...

As I responded already, I am not sure how I feel about it, but just because you dont want it to happen doesnt mean there isnt some truth to it.

it's just that the first tweet is highly suggestive but by the end of the string of tweets - it's nothing. Not your fault, just stating it.

Basically "people are saying Eichel is tired of losing and wants out of NY, maybe to the NYR"

Eichels agent "he hates to lose but no, we didn't request a trade"

Bob "since a new GM took over, teams called to see what's up, including presumably NYR"

I don’t know how we’d get Eichel without trading major pieces in our current/future plans. But by Bob’s commentary, it seems Buffalo has no real reason to shop Eichel. Imteresting we were the only team mentioned.

he could request a trade to NYR so the value goes down. like what Rick Nash did

@Edge said the Rangers have been talking to Buffalo, and have been talking about the 1st overall, so naturally that would have to include Eichel

Gorton is doing his due diligence, I don't expect a trade to go down for him though

@bobbop - your thoughts on this? I know you've been very vocal about your stance on Eichel and how there is a lot the public doesn't know about him being a major part of the problem in Buffalo
I'm not entirely surprised he may have requested a trade. His right. As for the Rangers interest I can't see it but they certainly might inquire. The price would be very high, the future payroll issues would be very difficult and it creates a ton of questions for the future. You've already got one $11MM player, another on two years away from $10MM and a boatload of young stars with very high upsides. I can make the money work for 2-3 years but then what? Interested in hearing what else comes out today. At some point I'll spill some of what I've heard.

The question now, and like somebody mentioned, if they're awful by deadline and budget has been cut, what are you comfortable sending to Buffalo? You'd have two elite 1Cs.

A polite no thank you to Eichel, stay the course. No way we make the salary work and keep the guys we would want to keep in a couple of years i.e Zibby, Fox etc.

Land of no calls..
And I am not certain how “for” or “against it” I am to be honest because of the surrounding factors. Acquisition cost + Cap navigation now and in the future. It would likely mean the end of Zibanejad in 2 years when he needs a new contract.

I would imagine a package could include pieces such as Strome/Buch, DeAngelo, 1st round pick, and go from there.

But having a 1-2 of Zib-Eichel down the middle is a combo you can win a cup with.

I mean I can see the logic behind it. You could put Zib, Panarin, and Eichel on 3 different lines and even if you lost a Kakko or Lafreniere in the trade you can put a potentially dangerous player on each line with them in Kreider, Buch, Kakko/Laf, and Kravtsov. But taking on a $10m contract seems nuts given the long-term implications.

I'm hoping this means that the Rangers kicked the tires to see if it was doable without Lafreniere going back the other way and once the Sabres said no it didn't go any further.

Kreider, Zibanajad, Panarin and Trouba got them because they are established cornerstone players. Smith has a modified no-trade clause, not a NMC. Much different. DeAngelo can't get any type of protection for at least another three years.
Ok yes, but can we agree that anyone who would trade futures to acquire Smith and then allow him to refuse a trade to half the league can't be trusted to not give Dillon a NMC?

I don’t think Eichel’s agent would publicly acknowledge they asked for a trade unless things got so bad they wanted to force it. It could have happened and they’re being professional about it and saying it didn’t in order to give Buffalo the best chance at a full return. Once it’s public fact that he wants out, everyone knows they don’t have to offer full bang.

And if the cost for Eichel is the 1st overall then I am not interested. You are potentially adding superstar talent on a cheap ELC.

I dont think the Rangers would be moving 1OA, Zibanejad, or other crucial assets for a guy that wants out.

Secondly, even if you remove those above assets as a nonstarter, the Rangers still have enough assets to outbid any team IF they want Eichel

Eichel would have to be some combo of ADA, Chytil, Kravstov, Miller or Lundkvist and the 22 OA right?

I mean if you can add Jack Eichel without surrendering Kakko or Lafreniere... I don't know how you could pass that up. Even if it meant losing Zib in two years, Eichel is an exponentially better player, younger, and signed to probably less money than Zib would ask for if he keeps scoring 40+.

From what i've read the Flames fans still love him and feel like he is one of their best players. How willing to overpay for him would you be?
I think he would be terrific behind Mika but I'm pretty sure Georgiev and Buch is not getting it done.

Doesn't matter what Flames fans think, what matters is what the Flames GM thinks.

If the Rangers called on Eichel, I doubt the 1 OA was a part of that call until the Sabres brought it up.

they won’t get the 1 OA for a 10+ million dollar player, the addition of a big ticket player makes lafrenieres ELC even more necessary.
