The NYR called about his availability. They are clearly interested and its their job to make it work. They wouldnt call if they didnt think they could.

As I will reiterate for the 3rd time, I dont know how I feel about Eichel. I am unsure what side I sit on for this. But there is clearly some smoke there. So do we not discuss it because some of you dont want it to happen? Or do we talk about considering this a roster building thread...

Discuss it all you want, just don't be upset when other people tell you it isn't happening. Yes, the Rangers apparently asked about his availability. That doesn't mean they realistically see him as a target. Odds are, Buffalo's asking price will end the discussions quickly.

Not sure about the bolded. I think GM’s regularly have discussions about players around the league.

Why were the Rangers the only team mentioned? That’s what irks me. Is this a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” kind of thing?

I would say so.

I put the chances of actually trading for Eichel at around 10% but it’s obvious this is not just HF fantasy

yes.

the Staal trade was weird and clearly something that was foreshadowing a bigger move.

the 1OA wouldn’t be on the table. JD would never allow for it. Ditto Kakko.

now Chytil/DeAngelo/Strome/Howden/Buch/22OA/ any of the other prospects? Yeah.

Inquiring about a player doesn't mean you're hot to trade for them and will make it work
Makes sense to see what's up and what the price might be, but the price might be far beyond what you want to pay.

What is he insinuating tht the tweet doesn’t say lol. We clearly have interest in Eichel

I didn't mean that part for @RGY which I clarified in my next post.

The whole thread is really clickbaity. Idk. It goes from directly tying us to Eichel (and him wanting to leave) to backing off all of that, and saying tons of teams called when Buffalo changed GMs. It's very odd.

I mean if you can add Jack Eichel without surrendering Kakko or Lafreniere... I don't know how you could pass that up. Even if it meant losing Zib in two years, Eichel is an exponentially better player, younger, and signed to probably less money than Zib would ask for if he keeps scoring 40+.

More likely it would involve losing Zib now.

How is it clickbaity lol it’s Bob McKenzie. He’s giving us the info he has. He says “at face value there's nothing to see”, but if you’re taking this info at face value idk what to say.

If the rangers were trading for Eichel, I’d imagine the price being TDA,Kravtsov,22nd pick, maybe a chytil or another prospect. Plus I’d imagine Mika would be gone by the time his contract is up.

I don’t think so.
I don't see how A) Buffalo would do it, or B) it would be the best offer for Eichel otherwise

But since no one decided to post the follow up McKenzie tweets, he also said Eichel doesn't want out and Buffalo doesn't want to trade him and they're both on the same page of wanting to get better sooner rather than later

I mean I can see the logic behind it. You could put Zib, Panarin, and Eichel on 3 different lines and even if you lost a Kakko or Lafreniere in the trade you can put a potentially dangerous player on each line with them in Kreider, Buch, Kakko/Laf, and Kravtsov. But taking on a $10m contract seems nuts given the long-term implications.

I'm hoping this means that the Rangers kicked the tires to see if it was doable without Lafreniere going back the other way and once the Sabres said no it didn't go any further.
They're not acquiring Eichel to play one of those three on the third line.
