NYR 1stOA pick for Brady Tkachuk + 3rdOA??

hmmm not sure what to think about this??? I do kinda like it although more should given from Sens in my opinion

Hayes is cousins with Tkachuk.

To me, that falls into the "stupid offer" that it might take to part with the first overall. You're getting a unique talent in Tkachuk and still picking in that top-tier of player. Byfield or Stutzle both have the talent that they could be on a Lafreniere level when all is said and done. Maybe not in raw point totals but definitely in on-ice impact. They're just not as far along and have more question marks right now.

That being said, it does complicate things. Tkachuk is entering the 3rd year of his ELC and if the direction his brother went is any indication, you're looking at a big-number / short-term kind of negotiation. Hard to undersell the value in a guy like Lafreniere on a ELC. Tkachuk also requires expansion protection while Lafreniere does not.

Still, I don't think the Rangers would do it. No reason to tempt fate and there's too much risk in looking like a donkey if the guy you take at #3 flops and Tkachuk stagnates as "only" a 50pt power forward.

You can believe that Strome has revived his career here and is a firm bet as a top-6 caliber scorer for us and believe that 1) the Rangers should move on, trying to sell high, 2) the Rangers should not offer more than 2 years and/or 4 mil on the next contract if they go that route, and 3) his personal record-setting year was a product of Artemi Panarin being an offensive force in the small category shared by McDavid, Kucherov, and Draisitl atm.

And by you I mean me, of course.

we should really screw up the Isles
offer barzal a crazy high offer that if matched will kill the isles cap space
sign matt martin

this might sound crazy but if you can sign shattenkirk to a 2 year low dollar deal do it...it adds depth and he can help the team.

I don't care what he was before he got here. He was productive without Panarin here. What was Zibanejad before he got here?

And, as much as you long to dismiss it, Panarin was never a Hart finalist before playing with Strome.

He wasn't productive without Panarin here. Just look at the numbers. I'm busy at work so I can't pull them all up in detail now but I've done it before. His results without Panarin here are pedestrian.

For quick numbers he has 51 5v5 points in 1767 minutes here. 26 points in 700 mins with Panarin (very good) and 25 points in 1067 mins without Panarin (~3rd line level and right in line with the rest of his career).

Strome scoring at a 3rd line rate combined with his lack of defensive play and incessant penalties is not a good player to have on your team.

It was @TheDirtyH you were replying to, not @SingnBluesOnBroadway.

Being impressed by Strome is a low bar, yes. He has underperformed for 90% of that contract he's on. He takes numerous dumb penalties and is regularly taken advantage of by opponent's top lines. He is not owed a raise.
The Rangers did not pick him 5th overall. And for the Rangers, he has been worth every penny of his contract. And for his play with the Rangers, he is absolutely owed a raise.

Players can pull out their careers in multiple situations. What Strome has done here in well over a year is not something that should be ignored.
No one is ignoring his one promising season. Some people are ignoring his multiple subpar seasons. Both need to be taken in account with his next contract.

How many people have forgotten that Strome spent time on our 4th line before we signed Panarin?
That's fine and I would use that as reasoning not to give him a ton of money/term, not as a reason to not keep him around. It's going to be hard to find someone to fill 2C this season that doesn't cost a ton of money and/or prospects.

With reasoning like this, I don't know why we have multiple pages of debating on Strome. Pretty much everyone that appreciated Strome's season acknowledges he benefitted from Panarin, his next contract has to be reasonable, and no one is opposed to selling high.

The bickering is over the contention that Panarin drug around a corpse for a full season and any other corpse would have produced the same results.

Its borderline blasphemy to suggest their partnership was mutually beneficial and overpaying for a second line center is maybe unnecessary so long as Strome is signed on a reasonable deal.

One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is Strome and Panarin always seem to know exactly where the other is on the ice.

Jimmy Hayes is not a trusted source. But...

If Ottawa adds a third piece, I'd be listening.

Also FWIW -- have heard Gaudreau for Konecny rumor kicking around. There's definitely smoke around Calgary and Philadelphia too. Just get the feeling Calgary is going to be making some news soon.

There's an understatement (he benefitted) and an overstatement (drug a corpse) here.

I don't think Strome had much of anything to do with Panarin's numbers. That had to do with Fox and DeAngelo sharing his 5v5 icetime and the matchup problems created by having another superstar scoring forward on a separate line all year. In Columbus the next best player up front was Cam Atkinson who also scored career highs with Panarin and who played on the same line.

That third piece would have to be #5 for me to listen.

Why are the Flyers trading a player who just scored more points than Gaudreau and is signed for 3 more years than him?

There is no chance that Ottawa offer is real, but I’m only going from 1 to 3 if I know 100% it’s Byfield. I’m not doing it for Stutlze.

I was going to say if you knew the Kings wanted Stutzle and you could get Byfield and BT you take that trade and run for the friggen exits.

you could stack the top line of Panarin Mika Kreider and follow them with Tkachuk Byfield Kakko

that’s a nightmare for any team

don’t think even Ottawa is that stupid
