I have a few people who are coming to visit me in PA to get away from NY and their cities.

Time will be spent together. Wine will be plentiful. Discussions will take place. I'm actually meeting one of them early in about 2 hours.

I say this with caveat that I will not be grilling them for hours with questions, and anything pre-draft is a subject to some level of confidentiality. And even then, I only get partial puzzle pieces prior to the draft.
Can I hire you a stenographer to type up a transcript for the board? :sarcasm:

I might have a more optimistic view of Gauthier than the Rangers do but he seems like a strange guy to target for just a 4th line player. I think they see more upside than that.
I do not disagree. My only point is that there is going to be a healthy amount of competition and fit will be up to the young players to prove that they belong. And maybe even more importantly where they belong.

I think that's true but on the flip side it can also provide a little bit more of a cushion for those players to get comfortable. Less of a need for Gauthier to take a big step forward next year when Virtanen can fill that role for a year or two. Less pressure on Kravtsov to jump into the NHL because there's a bunch of RWs ahead of him. It sort of settles the pieces into a better line the same way adding Lafreniere settles things on the left-side.

I think the rangers definitely think he has a higher potential then that. no guarantee he reaches it but the potential is there...fans tend to think that quinn hates the players he is hardest on. but I feel the opposite I think he is hardest on the guys that he sees he most potential in like ADA...hopefully gauthier learns from it and gets better.

but a 4th line of lemieux-howden-gauthier has the potential to be a heck of a 4th line next year. it would completely change our bottom 6

Totally agree. I think Gauthier has plenty to learn in that role and I don't have an issue with Quinn's method of handling the younger players. I'm hopeful he can turn into a solid player for us.

Thanks for everything player.

Let's say Virtanen can be had for Andersson and a third.

I'd actually be fairly okay if the former found consistency in his game and settled in as third line RW who occassionally slides up in the lineup and pops in 15-20 goals, and 30-40 points.

So for me, I don't know if he even has "take off" necessarily. I'd be happy if he found his niche and some consistency with it.

I know that's a way more serious answer than you were looking for. Just humor me.
That is the EXACT offer that popped into my head when the idea of trading for Virtanen was first floated on the board.

I think there will be a lot of disappointed faces when the only moves we make are depth moves for the 4th line and the team is generally the same plus Lafreniere and possibly Barron and Miller.

Moves will need to be made, and the team has gone on record stating this, but I'm confident the they won't make them for the sake of making them. Everything has to be looked at through the lens of years to come, not just this coming season. Let's all be patient.

I think If these danault rumors are true that are floating around the Rangers are going to go in with a very substantial offer to try and get him.

I dunno

Him wanting more than what Montreal wants to pay doesn’t scream Ranger target to me
Agreed. If he had 2 or 3 years left on his contract I think Gorton would be all over him. Considering he only has 1 year left on his deal, I don’t know how interested Gorton will be.

I think he would be a great fit for next season, though. He’s exactly what we need to replace Strome. A disciplined, reliable, 40-50 point two way center.

I think he wants to get paid if he’s going to be a 3C. He’s a defensively solid center with upside, wins 55% of draws, is 6’ 200, plays physical, paces for 50+ points a year. He can probably provide an upgrade over Strome and take top six minutes here. I wouldn’t want to overpay but I’d rather commit 5x4 to Danault than Strome.

If they're going to give money to one or the other, he's the guy I'd give it to.

I'd imagine that there will be a boatload of interest there though.

I’m thinking he will want more than that. If he’ll sign an extension for 4-5 mil than I’d be all for it. But I don’t know that you can get him or strome that cheap

It's odd to me that Brassard had most of the same flaws in his game that Strome does while he was here, but everyone loved Brass.

Guess it had to do with playoff performances??
