Interestingly enough, while we focus on the Rangers "rebuilding" a 2016 draft, they've also quitely done the same with 2014 as well.

From 2014, we have ADA who was taken 19th and Lemieux who was taken 31st. That's on top of Shesterkin from the fourth.

So you're saying we're going to trade for Jake Virtanen to complete our 2014 acquisition-draft? :sarcasm:

I think it's time to fill out the 2015 acquisition-draft :naughty:

Agreed. Starting with the 2nd round and Travis Dermott! :D

In all seriousness, 2015 is looking like a really strong class in hindsight. Most of the guys taken in the 1st round have established themselves as higher-end NHL regulars or are proving themselves to be. Only glaring misstep was from Boston. Even heading into the 2nd and later rounds there are a lot of players making noise in the NHL. Unfortunately we whiffed on pretty much everyone.

I was listening to the NHL Network on Sirious XM earlier this week. The were talking about Wilson types. They had a quote from Ryan Reaves in there. He said..."I will take care of your Tom Wilson problem in the East". Im not sure what team they were referring to? Wonder if he is on the move next season? One more year at $1,750,000.

Reaves just signed a 2 year extension that kicks in for 20-21.

And to think, everyone was bitching that we took another goalie in 2014. "Why did we take the Russian kid when we just took Halverson?!"

I remember someone saying that the Rangers were keeping an eye on Igor leading up to that draft. I was happier taking Igor in the 4th than Halverson in the 2nd.

Wish I could say the same. I'm pretty sure I was one of those guys I was just chiding in my last post. Didn't love Halverson but hated that we took two goalies.

To me. it's where you draft them. 4th round or later is ideal to me.

Yeah I've definitely evolved on my position over time when it comes to drafting goalies. The draft in general really. I used to be really certain there was guaranteed value in every round if you looked hard enough but now I kind of view them all a cheap scratch off tickets. If ya hit, great, but if you're that concerned you missed then you probably shouldn't be doing it.

I think the big issue that people had at the time was that after using our top pick to take halverson they showed a complete lack of faith in that pick by taking another goalie 2 rounds later. that lack of faith was 100% right. so they shouldn't have taken halverson in the first place. but thats old history at this point....and also highlights why you don't want to have only 1 pick in the top 85. the margin for error isn't in your favor.

maybe tyler toffoli who we took christian thomas instead of?

No, that's one that's always bothered me. My wife and I were on a weekend getaway in western Virginia during the draft, and we were specifically on Skyline Drive on day two, so maybe that's why the Kempe thing is a little fuzzy.

So Bennett and Virtanen both taking off as Rangers? I like it.

Let's say Virtanen can be had for Andersson and a third.

I'd actually be fairly okay if the former found consistency in his game and settled in as third line RW who occassionally slides up in the lineup and pops in 15-20 goals, and 30-40 points.

So for me, I don't know if he even has "take off" necessarily. I'd be happy if he found his niche and some consistency with it.

I know that's a way more serious answer than you were looking for. Just humor me.
