Let's assume for a minute that William Nylander and Clayton Keller are both available and will cost the same in terms of assets. Who do you choose and why?
I'd probably pass on both and look for a cheaper option.

Bring back ClaessonI'm not particularly high on Brendan Smith, but who is playing the left side?
We don't have anyone outside of Lindgren to play. Hopefully Staal is gone some way.
Take Smith out and it's legit 1 guy left.

What move do they need to make to replace Strome? Acquiring Monahan/Lindholm would be considered an upgrade to Strome as the 2C making him expendable as we hope. And then you are also getting a potential future 2C. No I don’t think Lundell is 2 years away. 1 year at the most and you can have him slide in as your 3C. I’d say that is incredible value as far as a return goes for Strome. Unless of course you are someone that is a Strome fan and really dont want to see him go. Lundell for him while upgrading to Monahan/Lindholm would be a +++ for this organization moving forward.2-3 months? I was thinking 1-2 years.
re: Strome - I just think it's bad asset management. He has value and you are creating a giant hole in the roster. It falls into that category of "if you have to make another move/trade to justify this trade, it's probably not a good trade you want to make." Also, if you are acquiring the 8OA, the 21OA is most likely going into the trade. A lot of the Strome situation depends on what sort of extension numbers we are talking about. And if signed, does that give him more or less value?
Around the NHL: Part XXVNext goal is big
i would be fine with Canes pick in a package for Chychrun, to play along side Trouba
I have not been on the 'fix left D now' bandwagon, but this may be a rare opportunity
I'd be all over Chychrun and would look heavily at Dvorak and Schmaltz
You keep coming back to this and have a belief that positions are fungible. They are not. Buchnevich was going to 55 points last year. That is NOT a third line wing. He very much can play on the top line, whether you like it or not.As the wingers who are above Buch on the eventual payscale go, there is Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kreider, a decent chance of Kravtsov, and who knows who else ends up being acquired? Buch's value to us is ultimately a third line wing+++, but nonetheless a third liner. Even if he is the "second best RW" on the roster, the roster can't keep him if he's on a second line winger contract. Instead, we would more efficiently role three scoring lines with Kreider as a third line wing+++, and we'd fill in the right hand sides with, like..... Jesper Fast types.
Hajek is a trading chip in the future, in my world.
thank God we have you.
People like you apparently need me.
Also Grabner is actually effective at his role

Arizona is in a weird spot.
They were perpetually rebuilding under Chayka, got a taste of the playoffs this year and have a bunch of old guys signed for another year.
Their farm blows, they have no draft picks for the next 2 years. How long do they think they have to get this turned around? It may benefit them to just tear it down and start over for real under the watch of someone who isn't a dope.

I bet Phil is back in Pitsburgh before the 21 season ends.
1. I think it's holding steady, I don't think it's gone up or down. I also think a lot of teams, including the Rangers think Buch is the type of support guy whose production can climb significantly as a team's core comes online around him...
Not now?
