Didn't Buffalo almost trade their Cozens pick for Buch at the draft (along with Edmonton considering it as well)?

Edge seemed to indicate that Buch for Edmonton's 8th (which would have been Zegras for us) nearly happened.

If we could duplicate that scenario this year I think it essentially finishes off the rebuild.

This is like the last chance to get up this high to get a center, what with the assets we have that are expendable soon hitting free agency, expiring, or being otherwise used (I don't expect to have multiple firsts again any time soon).

Liquidate extraneous parts now. Get the guy they love. Lundell.

I think with Edmonton it was actually close to getting done, but I remember something about Buffalo considering it and then deciding that they didn't like that Buch wasn't under contract yet.

@Edge am I misremembering this?

Im wondering how much the current state of NYC will effect the players and will it effect any of their decisions to actually stay there? Many years ago, the majority of the players lived outside of Manhattan. Long Beach, Nassau, Rye, Rockland etc. The early 90's teams changed all that. Basically Mess and Leetch started a new trend of players actually living in Manhattan. Now most of them all live there. I really wonder if any of them are going to out their homes up for sale and move back into those areas? Like the players with kids, and wives and whatnot. I would be they are already making moves.

Got me thinking....

This is the best cauldren of players within the system i have seen since 94. Combo of some legit veteran players who are maturing and some of the best youth we have seen this club draft and develop. Add 1OA for 2020 and its like the hockey gods have come together and said..."They shall be a powerhouse". When things come together like this, it gets other players juices flowing. Players that would want to come and join in on this exciting young club. Players maybe coming for less.

...Then there is this little pandemic, and protesting, and shut down of nearly EVERYTHING!

Very concerned on how this is going to play out.

Many players will do a 180 and riot soon if there is no hockey.

Remember how much fuzz a few % of escrow causes? Well that is a problem of the past because with no hockey there will no escrow and no checks whatsoever. Far from all players can go 5-6 months without any checks at all.

I apologize for what you are about to read.

  1. Strome to Minnesota for their 2020 2nd round pick and Vladislav Firstov
  2. ADA to Vegas for Stastny @ 4 mil (2.5 mil retained) and Krebs
  3. Georgiev to Calgary for their 2020 2nd round pick
  4. Calgary 2020 2nd and Buffalo 2021 3rd to Islanders for Leddy @ 4 mil (1.5 mil retained)
  5. Hank and Staal bought out
  6. Sign Talbot @ 1 x 2
  7. Sign Bogosian @ 1 x 2
  8. Sign Lemmy @ 1.4 x 2
  9. Sign Fast @ 2 x 3
  10. Sign Laf @ .925 + 2.85 x 3
  11. Use Minnesota 2020 2nd round pick and our 2 3rd round picks as necessary to move up from Carolina pick and draft Lundell or Holloway
For the expansion draft, we protect:

Kreider, Zib, Buch, Panarin, Chytil and 2 of Gauthier/Lemieux/Howden/Fast
Leddy, Trouba, Lindgren

Talbot and Bogosian fill the requirements for exposure.

I put Laf at 3.775 mil because of his bonuses. We are already exceeding the bonus cushion due to bonuses to other players, so we have to account for his bonuses as part of the 81.5 mil cap.

Smith serves as the extra on both offense and defense.

Buffalo dropped a little earlier. I can't remember if it was the night before, or that morning. But they were also asking about Vesey quite a bit.

Edmonto literally came down to the final minute.

If you guys remember, there was a delay in their pick. They took some time. That was because the Rangers and them were actively engaging in conversations centered on Buch.

Ultimately, the Oilers decided they didn't want to pass on Broberg.

Had the deal gone through, the Rangers would've taken Zegras.

Thanks, I do remember Buffalo dropping out of it earlier and Edmonton's coming down to the last second because when Buch got his contract I sat around wondering if that had been done before the draft would either of those trades have actually gone through

I agree probably not moving Chytil to get to 8.

But isn't your offer basically what I said? Or are you saying Buch OR Georgiev? I'm saying "and." I don't think Georgiev has that kind of value by himself.

But I think Buch does, as we almost dealt him for 8 last draft.

Assume Buch and the Carolina pick are the framework for 8 from Buffalo and Lundell is on the board.

If they want sweetener, I'm doing it.

Georgiev is way too much sweetener--Gauthier? but I wouldn't put both Buch and Georgiev in the deal. Buchnevich is a real deal 2nd line winger. Him and the Carolina 1st would be enough to offer Buffalo IMO for the 8OA--which isn't to say they would take it but IMO they're looking for wingers to play with Eichel and whether it's Raymond, Quinn, Jarvis or Holtz--they'll probably have to wait a year or two for any of them. Buchnevich they could use now. I would not give them two younger roster players + the Carolina pick. That's too much.

I think it's best to wait and watch and trade into the teens if he keeps on falling. Anyway if it happens that's the kind of thing that will happen on draft day pretty much on the spur of the moment.

fuuuudge no. hella overpayment.

LOL yeah I was being overly dramatic / facetious. Overpayment via trade aside, Laine is just a bad target. He's a wing and not a center, our actual need, and he will probably get paid in the 7.5-9 range on his next deal. There's no way the Rangers can add another contract like that, especially for a winger.

Two questions...

1) Do we think Buchnevich's value has increased because of his production last season

2) How close to being NHL ready do we think Rossi and Lundell are? Reading the reports it seems like Lundell is the safer two-way center but Rossi has a higher offensive upside.

I prefer Lundell for that very reason. Safer bet as a competent and capable NHL player. And if the offense really starts to come along then its an added bonus.

They have no cap space. They have no picks. Their roster is flawed and they have no GM.

Whoever is coming in is going to be able to blow this roster up for the most part. There are redeemable pieces there for them to keep, but that team is going to need to rebuild again.

Have to see what it takes to get Dvorak done. 2nd line center, young, locked into a friendly deal. Unless whoever comes in thinks they can contend over the next few years, they're gonna need to rebuild over 4-5 years if they stand pat. Make some trades, you can get back into the swing of things in 2-3 years.

Carolina's 1st gets them back into a really good draft. We have an abundance of prospects, one of the best systems in the league.

If they can strike while the iron is hot with Arizona, this team could jump into the playoffs next season and be a cup contender the following.

Dvorak for Carolina 1st+. Their other more expensive players are not going to return as much, especially with a flat cap. They have Hayton that will fill a spot soon. Hopefully Gorton is on the line with whoever is running the show there for now. They've made moves before, so there is a precedent for it.

Dvorak always struck me as a player that could really break out offensively with better linemates. And he's good on faceoffs.

That Arizona doesn't use him on the PK, however, is a warning sign for me. If we are going to replace Strome we need to do so with a guy who, like Strome, plays in all situations.

any speculation on what it could cost to get brodin assuming the wild are dumb?

Not necessarily. Other guys can step up and take the minutes he would be vacating. Doesn't have to be who ever we get for that role.

We have spots to fill in the bottom 6.

Buchnevich's value has definitely increased. Or so I speculate. We may call him a second liner, but he was putting up first line production. Trending to 55 points, with potential for more. I would say it increased.

Lundell MAY be ready for a third line center role. But his offensive side will take time to develop. Rossi certainly has higher offensive upside, but I would doubt that he is ready for prime time for several years.

Geez, a 2020 2nd and the 2021 1st. Yikes.

Lots of players don't have roles on their current team that could fill it on another team. I wouldn't put it against the Rangers to play him on the PK if he was to be traded here.

He did PK a little bit a few years ago, but they've had Stepan and Richardson who are PKing centers. He'd be 3rd in line for that role. I don't see why he couldn't do it at an older age.

If the actual offering is a top-10 pick for Buch I'm moving him and worrying about moving other pieces for help, specifically that Carolina pick.

But what if it's Buch and Carolina pick? I still do it.

Honestly, with what's just happened to Arizona, I would absolutely try to see what I could do to get Chychrun out of there.

Buch+2020/2021 1st+Robertson/Jones for Chychrun+cap dump
