Zucker hasn’t been very good this year and he will be very cheap. Coyotes need to retain half. He may be worth a roll of the dice. He did score 27 goals last year.

They like McBain a lot. Dont see a deal there. The last thing the Coyotes need is more draft picks.
I saw a TSN tradecentre video. The Coyotes are looking for more picks.

My priorities…

- 1RW - obvious at this point, but absolutely required. Hopefully it comes with some term

- Top Pairing D - you take a Hanifin or Chychrun if you can get them. It’s a luxury, but provides way more value than most realize. Flexibility on the blue line answers any concern around injury or underperformance in the playoffs. No need to force this beyond these two players, but make your best pitch. Hopefully it comes with long term contract assurance

- 3C - Brodzinski has made this less of a priority, but it’s still one for sure if you have space and the ask isn’t huge. Trusting a guy in the regular season is very different than the playoffs. Term not a requirement here but a plus

- Depth D - if priority 2 is a strikeout and you have some room after 1 and 3, this is a nice to have

Well said. The Rangers can raise their ceiling the most with a top 6 RW. As far as C goes, clearly there is earned trust in Jonny B, and in case of a bottom 6 C injury, Edstrom and Rempe are both natural centers and can slot over. There is no trade out there that protects us from a Mika or Trocheck injury, unfortunately, and we are screwed if it happens. It is what it is. Im not interested in Henrique at a rental price. He is slow and hasnt been in a playoff game since before Hurricane Sandy lol.

Going off the Athletic's Trade Board, these are the guys on the list who could actually make a real impact imo.

Guentzel
Buch
Tarasenko
Vatrano
Eberle
Reilly Smith

Duclair, Mantha, Kubalik, Hoffman types dont do it for me. Get an actual top 6 guy

I'm still waiting on someone to explain to me why the Rangers are trading for one of these guys to replace Brodzinski. The cost to acquire some of these guys is asinine and the upgrade, if there even is one, is going to be minimal.

Now, if you want to try to find an upgrade to Goodrow then I'm all ears. But the cost of acquiring a better 4C should be minimal. No 1st's. No 2nd's. No Berard, Othmann, Sykora or Perrault. Hell, I might go as far as to say no Chmelar or Laba as well at this point for a marginal upgrade.

None of these guys are going to more than marginally improve the roster and some of them are going to require cap gymnastics to acquire.

I'd MUCH prefer to go find a good depth d-man and a good 4C than any of these of the costs are exorbitant. If Pittsburgh wants to dump Eller to free up cap space going in to the off-season, I'm listening. If Seattle wants to dump Wennberg to save actual $$ for the remainder of the season, okay.

I think the emergence of Edstrom and Rempe, along with the now functional third line, really alleviates the need to find forward help. We could use an additional depth piece, but having Pitlick, Othmann, and Belzile as black aces isn’t the worst thing in the world.

If we are going to part with assets of any significance, the focus needs to be on a defender with term or team control.

I’d be quite happy to give up several assets for Hanifin as long as the plan is to resign him and to move on from Lindgren and/or Trouba in the offseason. A top four of Miller-Fox Hanifin-Schneider is quite formidable for the next several years.

Then trade a mid round pick for a utility knife forward. No need for a big name or a scorer. Just someone who can slot in in case of injury. Wennberg/Kubalik/Rielly Smith. That tier.

In fairness, he also had to take a pretty sizeable amount of time off with an injury this season. To come back and play 30 minutes a game is a lot to handle for someone who was 100% healthy all season
This is true, but I would have said the same thing in previous seasons as well. I dont want this misconstrued as a critique of Fox. He’s the best player on the team. But I do think this is a limitation that prevents him from being that prototypical minutes eating #1.

Funny that my assessment is basically the opposite. I think the top nine is in great shape and love Vesey with Mika and Kreider. There is good balance on all of the lines right now and I don’t want to upset that. Just get a piece that can patch a hole if one develops.

I'm okay trading for Hanifin as long as they retain him. If not, go for someone who can be a good depth piece on defense.

At forward, a player who uses his speed and may compliment the team is where I'm headed. Someone who is overpaid and not likely to have a large market which will keep the cost way down. Okposo, Olofsson, Zucker. If a team out there is trying to move cap space on a player with term who could fit, like Eller, I'd be interested there as well.

At this point, I'm not paying anything over a mid-to-late round pick for any forward. In saying that, finding someone who could perhaps fill Vesey's spot to push him down in the lineup would be a nice security blanket but I'm not paying a premium for it.

Yeah. This is basically where I am, other than that I’m not actively looking to push Vesey down at all. I think we as a fan base are too locked in on the idea that all three players on the top line need to be stars/scorers. Vesey is not that but he’s plenty skilled enough to play on that line and he brings some smarts and defense that we weren’t getting from others there.

I also prefer the two giants on the fourth line and have no interest in mucking with the third line at all right now.

It’s weird to feel this way about the lineup. I’m very happy with it outside of the captain and Lindgren (who I love but have to admit is not suited for his role).

Don't get me wrong, I like Vesey there. Where I hesitate a bit is if the team has an injury to any of the top-9 wingers, the next man up is likely a rookie (Berard or Othmann). Based on the expected cost of someone like Okposo or Olofsson or Kubalik, I'd consider moving a mid-round pick to add another piece to that group and push Vesey to the 4th line where I think he is unbelievably effective.

I just don't think Jimmy Vesey on the top line (or top 6, depending on how you view the lines) and so many rookies in the bottom 6 is a recipe for winning a Stanley Cup.

Yeah, Sucker isn’t the answer. Too risky and even half retained is like 2.65 mil which doesn’t leave us much cap to address C and D. We Gotta manage that LTIR budget better than him. Hopefully Drury knows how it works.

They should have close to $6m to address all of their needs. That's a lot. So if they use $2.65m on Zucker, or more, they should still have plenty of cap space

I like the idea of Zucker but there is no guarantee we are getting the 27 goal version, and I feel like he is a dumb penalty waiting to happen.

True, but it handcuffs us from other potential opportunities. I’d much rather go with someone like Eberle which still fits your budget construct. I’m seeing C as a priority given the available inventory of each position, some may think RW is the priority. I’d be happy with Duclair at 1.5 mil.

no, too expensive in assets we cannot afford [youth, futures]

Love par 1.

prob w/bold is it is a plan, but then we are hostage to him naming his price +terms or he walks
can't have that.

no no no
would consider as ufa only at a manageable #, even if that is a bit pricey, but still doable
