I'd be curious what his stats show for this season as compared to the 3-year average.

I really don't care how he has looked in a 4th line role playing with Ryan Carpenter from years past. If he fits on that line and produces at a 3rd line measurement, then he fits.
His measurements are DECENT. Not great, not terrible, but decent. My point continues to be that if this team intends on competing for a cup, decent and satisfactory do not cut it in that position of importance on the team. Maybe that would work for a Bubble Team or some mediocre team not making the playoffs, but not this one. And just because he has played just about a quarter season or less of DECENT hockey (because he was not good in the first 15 games or so) that doesn’t mean you or anyone should feel comfortable with him in the 3C slot. Nor should anyone have any indication his DECENT play will hold up now and through the playoffs. That would be an erroneous misjudgment.

I’m just hoping for no half measures. If you are going to go for it and deal for Buchnevich, Hanifin and another depth piece. Make the cap work. Please don’t trade for Henrique and some 4th line plug and overpay.

Interested to see if prices come down by deadline day. I have to imagine no one has put a first round pick on the table for Henrique or the Ducks would have immediately taken that deal, and not risked injury playing him in meaningless games.

Hopefully some of these west teams all in the 8 seed running wind up selling.

Look at the standings - barely anyone out yet either in the East or West. Not saying all of those in the hunt will be buyers but there will be fewer seller. It will be sellers market IMO. Unlike last year the arms race is going to be in the West.

We constantly talk about riding Fox and Miller like horses, but have we considered the fact that Fox simply ain’t a horse?

Yeah, he’s a transcendent talent and an amazing hockey player. But he is quite literally not a horse. Like in the physical sense.

He doesn’t look to have the physical makeup to play all night long the way someone like Leetch did. He’s not the best skater, not very strong, and often looks pretty winded after shifts. None of these things improve with fatigue.

Perhaps the coaching staff knows that he can’t handle really big minutes?

What we should really be doing is Laf - Zib - Kakko
no
there is chemistry w/Cuylle + KK and even Brodz

don't go there

This ^ + riding Leetch like a horse for too long wore him down too

except from the charts that people have been posting, brodz has been playing better or on par with all of them. He is building great chemistry with cuyle and kakko and has been one of our best lines. I get it you want more of a name at center and thats going to cost a lot of assets this year. And honestly im Not one who would give up a first for any center on this market. It’s a crazy overpayment and that’s what it’s going to take to trade for some of the guys mentioned.

I guess we will find out when deals are completed

I’d agree but they are bad and need a shake up

Zucker and McBain is one stop shopping
Zucker hasn’t been very good this year and he will be very cheap. Coyotes need to retain half. He may be worth a roll of the dice. He did score 27 goals last year.

They like McBain a lot. Dont see a deal there. The last thing the Coyotes need is more draft picks.

I get the fact that our defense has holes but some of you act like we have a bottom-5 defense when there are only 7 teams with fewer goals against right now and that includes teams with multiple games-in-hand.

How many teams have better starting defensmen than the Rangers? Serious question because I don't know but I do know that most teams give up more goals than the Rangers and this hasn't exactly been one of Shesty's better years (yes, Quick has been great).

Lindgren is a minor problem IMO and should be on the bottom pair with Trouba, who is the bigger problem. Lindgren's contract is much easier to deal with compared to Trouba's.

Schneider and Gus should be the 2nd pair. Yes, they have warts but I like what I've seen as a whole. Schneider (still young) slowly seems to be improving and Gus compliments him well...Oh and they're cheap!

Miller and Fox would be really good and potentially awesome. Miller has his struggles but the talent is there and I like what I've seem from him lately. When he's dialed in, he looks like an all-star.

Fox is great in his own unique way in that he sees the game 2-3 steps ahead of everyone else. Whenever I focus on Fox, his little defensive plays and decisions with the puck never cease to amaze me. He doesn't need to be fast.

Hopefully the Trouba-Lindgren pair is a real thing while giving more minutes to the other pairs.

In fairness to Fox, quite literally no player in the game has been, or likely ever will be a horse in the physical sense... (sorry, the way that was written was pretty funny :naughty:).

Starting to veer off topic, but as there's no recorded TOI that far back, what do people think Leetch's ice-time would have been during the 94 and 97 playoffs, I assume an average around the 30 min mark?
His season average looks to be around 2-2.5 mins more than Fox for ice-time each year, but those circa 2000 teams had so many lousy D there wasn't really a choice
Fox in the ECF run 2 season back played under 25 mins in 6 of the 20 games, and one of those was after playing 44.5 mins the game before

I keep seeing trade kakko or trade Cuylle yada yada. You do not subtract from a roster to add if you are a contender. Why? It obliterates depth. See kings when they traded a haul for a lazy guy.

You wait for the right situation where you can use picks and prospects. The point of drafting good prospects is not just to bolster your roster but also to sell high on those who probably would not make your squad.

Middlestadt is not the right target for me. I think buffalo wants older, honestly, an old team like Washington would probably do Dylan strome for middlestadt, with an add.

We can't afford the next contract so I don't see it working out. I also think you need a really good 4c and a rw. Kreider and Mika get a lot of hate, and some of it justified, but they are going up against the top lines. Mika and kreid's run a pseudo rush-cycle scheme and I say pseudo because Mika is not that great at puck battles when it comes to strength.

Mika's strength is vision and his shot, which I agree he doesn't use nearly as close as much as he should. I also think it's about to be March so that whole discourse will dissipate. I solely judge him on his playoffs this year. He is our first line center. When we failed to get eichel and resigned him, until we get a replacement, he is not too shabby being a ppg player (or near it).

Rangers have had one of the most balanced offences in the game the past few years and I think it's a mix of different skill sets that mesh. If you need a rw who can beat competition at 5v5, I'd swing eberle, but I want an under the radar vatrano type pick. Maybe even someone young and cheap who is effective. Would it cost a haul? Yeah. kakko changes the third line because him and Cuylle drive it. You need a complement to Mika's vision and rush-based offence with kreider's board battling and net front presence.

I would pick a winger who is speedy rather than one who is a vet but I don't know who is out there that really grabs my attention at the moment. Eberle is a vet, I would love gourde from Seattle too, but I want a lekhonen type player.

I do agree AZ would need players Back so a Jones and descent not top prospects

Not sure who I’d give up but Drury does

Trade Cuylle? No one has said that here

bold is spot on
rest of it: hold unless there is a bargain, and per @RangerBoy concur we focus on a difference maker depth D, not an F

Wennberg is not meaningfully better than Brodzinski
that is generous
Is he better at all?

In fairness, he also had to take a pretty sizeable amount of time off with an injury this season. To come back and play 30 minutes a game is a lot to handle for someone who was 100% healthy all season
