This was true like 5 years ago, not anymore. Even when he had his mini resurgance 2 years ago with the Blues, that was almost entirely driven by Robert Thomas doing all of the work up ice for him. We don't really have that type of player on the roster (closest thing was Chytil who obviously isn't going to play again this year.)

Kreider and Zibanejad drove much better numbers with Kakko and Vesey last year than they did with Tarasenko so that excuse doesn't really apply. Thats very much the same type of game that Kakko plays (or tries to play.)

He didn't work with Trocheck and Panarin either. It was better with those 2, but it wasn't good. I'm not breaking up the current line they play on either, it's the only line that has consistently been good all year.

Anyway, where would he fit? if they're going to add a RW it would be next to Kreider and Zibanejad and as we both agree, that's a trio that just did not work at all.

That's because Kakko doesn't generate chances off the cycle by himself. Tarasenko can, which is why despite bad metrics, Tarasenko did put up points in that role.

IMO the solution is to break up the bromance and force those players to play with players who complement one another's weaknesses.

Kreider/Brodz/Taras - Kreider and Brodz can play speed, Taras and Brodz can play against the wall, and there's always the chance Kreider applies himself along the wall more on that line since he has the ability, but if nothing else Kreider can screen for the guy who would instantly have the team's best shot.
Cuylle/Zibs/Kakko - force Zibs to play on a wall, or let him try and triangulate Kakko and Cuylle's wall effort and be the shooter (similar to Brodz but better). Get him away from Kreider in the hope he starts using his 40 goal shot more and stop deferring.

Tarasenko just isn't that good and never was. He's the most underwhelming star of his generation.

For a guy who plays like he's a star, and focuses entirely on offense, he's a 0.8 PPG player.

I got it. I have a way to get our top-6 RW and to maintain the true essence and integrity of the BFF line.

Two words: Mats. Zuccarello. Make it happen, Cap'n.

We still arguably need other things more than a RW. It's incredible how little flexibility we have to address the holes on the roster and make a push. The cap system sucks eggs. And all the lemmings on the main boards think it's just the greatest league to ever exist. It actually hurts parity because the only teams with a real chance are the teams that had the strongest rosters on day 1.

They could open up cap space by removing more dead weight. We’ll see if that happens but I wouldn’t count on it.

The open cap will be at 5.1 ish once wheeler is LTIR’d if he hasn’t been already.

But he doesn’t really create chances off of plays like that. Peep almost every goal he’s scored over the last few years, it’s almost primarily off the rush 5v5. He’s a lot like a winger version of Zibanejad. This includes his time here.

I’m all about breaking up Kreider and Zibanejad but that doesn’t make Tarasenko fit here. I thought it was a fine gamble last year as it should have worked in theory but it didn’t in practice.

I dont think eating up all of our open cap space on him is the way to go and I wouldnt pony up the assets for salary retention. We can do better.

He doesn’t focus entirely on offense. He is an able and willing forechecker. His hits take players out and force turnovers. It sounds like you haven’t watched Tank much.

He focuses entirely on offense meaning that he hasn't seen the inside of the defensive zone in years. He certainly tries in the offensive zone to middling results.

Also, how would I not have watched Tarasenko? He played for the Rangers.

I don't care about "watching" because people can watch and see different things. It's entirely subjective. I'm just offended by the notion.

I see the f***ing games.

Do you people think I sit there with Excel open and calculate the xG by hand on my f***ing abacus?

Here, I'm going to get a chart from our most recent game and time it.

Most teams have 7 or 8 games left before the TDL. Have to think some teams are going to have to make decisions on players sooner than later.

WTF is it with cloudflare storage'd images? Moving the server off-premises really pays off. Crap-as-a-service.
I’ve noticed this. Is this a “paying member” kind of thing? I’ve reached my max on subscriptions

This is quite the reach. Minimizing a guy with a 0.80 PPG career is a wild take. His compensation throughout his career matched that production and lets not forget he actually has a Stanley Cup ring…

You have to trade a winger at some point probably.

But just don't do it for a rental. Trade Berard or whoever they decide to move for a defensive prospect.

I'm okay trading from strength for a position of weakness, but that time isn't right before a young player steps foot and impacts NHL ice. For example, what is the difference in value of Cuylle from last year to this year? Imagine trading Cuylle last year. It would be silly to have done so as his value has sky rocketed and the team has a good idea of what he is at the NHL level. Trading Berard this year would be akin to trading Cuylle last year. It will come back to bite the team in the ass

Watch the game you spreadsheet geek!

The only way I would consider Tarasenko is if we addressed 3C first and Tarasenko holds Ottawa hostage with his NTC so that we get him at a significant discount.

if we address 3C and get Tara then we won’t have the cap space to upgrade the D without someone like Lindgren going out.

If you acquired a 0.80 PPG player and that's what you paid for, that's a very significant asset.

Tarasenko's reputation is inflated well beyond that.

As a rule, you should never pay for players who are perceived as better than what the stats say they are, even if they're good.

You also have to take into account that this is a player on the downswing. It's not like JT Miller who has a 0.78 for his career but has been well over 1.0 for the last several years.
