Problem is ,the ones in the trade category don't have that much value other than BMB. Every organization has those types.

And that's okay, that's the type of players I make available. If we look back at even the McDonagh trade, Hajek + Howden weren't TB's top prospects. A couple of years ago, Barron wasn't the Rangers top prospect. I'm not moving guys who I think project to be character and improvements to this roster in short order unless that piece coming back is long term (Hanifin)

I think the take away from Cuylle, Edstrom and now Rempe all coming up and playing well should be that the answer can come from in house. Call up Berard. Put him next to 20 and 93 and see what happens. It's smarter to do this first then waste assets on a rental. I hate rentals.

If it doesn't work, Vesey goes back up and Rempe comes back in at 4th line. Berard, and Othmann, finish the year in Hartford and are likely regulars next year. No harm, no foul.
Detroit did it for 25 years and it allowed them to overcook their prospects and work them in to regular NHL shifts without missing steps. It kept a steady pipeline of affordable, quality depth. Their success speaks for itself -- 4 cups, 6 President's Trophies, 6 conference championships, 14 division championships.

Obviously, easier said than done, but it would seem the Rangers have been on the right track as of late.

I don't mind a rental, but I think losing the 1st rounders is a steep price these days. If those firsts were moved and we didn't have Perreault or Othmann, our pool would be looking pretty rough at the moment.

Team had a rough two months followed by the current 7 game win streak of which they‘ve been outplayed for a majority of the minutes in those games.
Organization could have tried ridding it out with Bonino and Pitlick tIll the TDL but choose to cut them and bring up youth.
Give credit to Drury and staff for not making a knee-jerk deal.
Just a guess, but I believe on March 8th there will be a rush of G.M.s who were holding out trying to get above par value to then dumping assets choosing to get any return rather than no return on pending UFAS.

Hes a righty, not sure if he plays RW primarily, but I'd like to see a tenacious David Perron added for the stretch run.

Rather Tarasenko. Ottawa gave him an NTC so he has leverage. If the Rangers can get him for a future 2nd or 3rd if he pulls a Kane, I like him with Mika and Kreider. Another big game player who can create offense. He was good for us last year until Kane's presence muddied the waters. That RW spot is where I am open to a rental the most. I think the supply will outweigh the demand, especially with teams having cap issues, and the Rangers can add a winger to adds ome offense at a reasonable cost

I wante to also post this here in this thread but it's important to remember that Mikkola last year was not some high profile rental. Here were his stats prior to his time with the Rangers compared to someone like Edmundson who people lament.

Mikkola:
3 points in 50 games plated
5 takeaways to 20 giveaways
-6.7 CF rel @ 5v5

Edmundson:
4 points in 37 games
6 takeaways to 21 giveaways
+0.9 CF rel @ 5v5

I get the point you're making here, but just want to say that Mikkola has always been better than Edmundson and will continue to be. Edmundson I don't think would work out here.

I like Tarasenko purely as a player compared to Kane. But we can't retain on either after last year, so it's Tarasenko at $5M or Kane at $2.75M. One of those basically kills our opportunity to acquire any other impact pieces. The other doesn't.

We'd still be able to add a player like Dowd or Kuraly and a defenseman like Edmundson with no retention on Vladdy. I mean can anyone beat a 3rd rounder for Tarasanko at full salary. Im sure some teams will attempt some LTIR f***ery as well.

Not tarasenko again.

He wasn't a fit last year, what makes you think he'd be a fit this year?

I think he was better than he is given credit for. His finishing ability was much needed. I read today that he is shooting less this year. I dont like that. I think the need for a guy with some offensive skill who has a history of playoff performance is exacerbated by Wheeler's injury. I think they can get a good player for a cheap price on deadline day. Eberle is another guy. Guentzel would be a dream but i wouldnt extend him and the cost would be major coming from PIT

Tarasenko would’ve been a fit last year with Panarin if Drury didn’t also decide to bring Kane who had to be prioritized - played in top-6 and also ahead of Tarasenko on PP. Too bad, but this year the Rangers again don’t have a fit for Tarasenko as they now have Lafreniere with Panarin. Another line? I don’t think Tarasenko would be a good fit with Zibanejad or better than Kakko on a 3rd (who I also don’t think would be a fit with Zibanejad). Pass

Tarasenko made every line he played with worse.

He was a fit in the room but thats about it. we're already paying too much for good fits in the room.

I mean i beg to differ there. I do think the true issue for Tarasneko was when we ended up getting Kane. They were the same player and while i had hoped it would make us have more offensive depth, Kane slid Tarasenko down and it affected him.

But Vlad still had 21 points in 31 games. And for whatever his possession metrics were, he had more % defensive zone starts here than what he was getting with STL. In fact, it was the most defensive zone starts in his career to that point % wise; so I am sure his defensive metrics took a hit. But overall, he was effective and had an offensive impact. He may be shooting less with Ottawa this year but you get him in here and get him back to shooting the puck.

There are options out there. I think Eberle will be a viable option as well.

The East is slowly starting to split at 9th in the standings. The Devils have the talent to get to 8th. After that the Islanders, Caps, and Pens are just there. Older teams that used to contend but have no pieces to sell.

Pens gave up their 1st for Karlsson, I can't see them wanting to make themselves worse. Lou isn't selling. I dont think Roy take the job if selling was an option. While I wouldn't expect the Rangers to be trade partners, they would be for others.

I don't see enough sellers where prices will drop. Maybe now Seattle is added. Arizona was added a week ago. 8 through 12 in the west is separated by 3 points and Seattle is in that mix.

The deadline is in 3 weeks, will there be enough that drop out to lower prices? I'm unsure.

Don't mind Tank. Would be nice for him to be a net driver, which I'm not sure he is.
