Problem is ,the ones in the trade category don't have that much value other than BMB. Every organization has those types.
Detroit did it for 25 years and it allowed them to overcook their prospects and work them in to regular NHL shifts without missing steps. It kept a steady pipeline of affordable, quality depth. Their success speaks for itself -- 4 cups, 6 President's Trophies, 6 conference championships, 14 division championships.I think the take away from Cuylle, Edstrom and now Rempe all coming up and playing well should be that the answer can come from in house. Call up Berard. Put him next to 20 and 93 and see what happens. It's smarter to do this first then waste assets on a rental. I hate rentals.
If it doesn't work, Vesey goes back up and Rempe comes back in at 4th line. Berard, and Othmann, finish the year in Hartford and are likely regulars next year. No harm, no foul.
Hes a righty, not sure if he plays RW primarily, but I'd like to see a tenacious David Perron added for the stretch run.

How can we guarantee that/make sure he is affordable? If we trade for hanafin he isn't going to be a rental...
I get the point you're making here, but just want to say that Mikkola has always been better than Edmundson and will continue to be. Edmundson I don't think would work out here.I wante to also post this here in this thread but it's important to remember that Mikkola last year was not some high profile rental. Here were his stats prior to his time with the Rangers compared to someone like Edmundson who people lament.
Mikkola:
3 points in 50 games plated
5 takeaways to 20 giveaways
-6.7 CF rel @ 5v5
Edmundson:
4 points in 37 games
6 takeaways to 21 giveaways
+0.9 CF rel @ 5v5
I like Tarasenko purely as a player compared to Kane. But we can't retain on either after last year, so it's Tarasenko at $5M or Kane at $2.75M. One of those basically kills our opportunity to acquire any other impact pieces. The other doesn't.Rather Tarasenko. Ottawa gave him an NTC so he has leverage. If the Rangers can get him for a future 2nd or 3rd if he pulls a Kane, I like him with Mika and Kreider. Another big game player who can create offense. He was good for us last year until Kane's presence muddied the waters. That RW spot is where I am open to a rental the most. I think the supply will outweigh the demand, especially with teams having cap issues, and the Rangers can add a winger to adds ome offense at a reasonable cost

To paraphrase the age old adage: If at first he doesn't succeed, try, try again. Not tarasenko again.
He wasn't a fit last year, what makes you think he'd be a fit this year?

I didn’t see that. He clicked with Panarin on that line and he clicked with Zibanejad on that line.Tarasenko made every line he played with worse.
He was a fit in the room but thats about it. we're already paying too much for good fits in the room.

Just a guess, but I believe on March 8th there will be a rush of G.M.s who were holding out trying to get above par value to then dumping assets choosing to get any return rather than no return on pending UFAS.
