Bunch of bull. He has done a lot of good things so far. Most of his draft picks look pretty damn good so far and we will see just how good in the coming years. He has signed Lindgren, Laf, Chytil, Kakko Vesey, Quick, Gus, to very reasonable deals. His deadline acquisitions the last 2 years have been mostly sound decisions also. He has had his clunkers also such as the Buch trade and Nemeth signing but all GM's have good and bad. I don't think he has been nearly as bad as you make it seem.

Trocheck too. That signing completely negates the Buch deal to me considering we couldnt have afforded it if we signed Buch

i mean you are copping out saying the players brought in before his tenure are carrying the team.....the same GM who got fired and signed the players we have to horrible contracts? drury has done well
I don’t see what the previous GM or his contracts have to do with anything, the point still stands. The team is succeeding because of all players who were here before Drury. The value they’ve gotten from his acquisitions over his tenure is hilariously bad.

  • Haha
Reactions: Rangers in 7
Jones would be in the top-6. I thought you meant the Rangers have another defenseman in the system to be ahead at #7.
He was probably making a joke about Troubas jersey number, which is 8.

Ben Harpur and Libor Hajek are #8 types. I know Trouba can suck but let's not be silly.

How much cap space will we have at the deadline?

A little over 4.3 million, they could accrue more by sending Rempe and Belzile to Hartford on off days to dip under the LTIR threshold , but they didn’t do that yesterday, so guess that’s not in the plans.
We have roughly 6 mil to work with.

Yes, we could send down Rempe and Belzile to accrue cap space, but the amount we'd accrue between now and the deadline would be negligible. Both will likely be sent down when we bring other players in, so the cap hits of the new players will be partially offset by those demotions.

We currently have about 4.38 mil in LTIR space. Rempe and Belzile make about 1.6 mil combined. Add them together, that's about 6 mil.

The one major benefit of having Rempe and Edstrom solidify their spots, apart from possibly not needing to add depth, is that both can be sent down without waivers and be the 1st and 2nd callups for depth. That means Drury will likely be able to keep only 12 forwards on the roster which is a decent savings

He's a good player, he has been for a long time. He's not a real star.

If you could clone Tarasenko and give me two, I would take Panarin over both of them. That's a star.

Hell, Panarin's worst season is as good as Tarasenko's best season.

Especially at this point. Even fans of Tarasenko would admit he's complimentary at this point in his career.

Correct. He's not a "star," and I am not suggesting he is. There's a reason his highest cap hit was 2/3 of Panarin's. He was the best player on a Blues team that caught lightning and relied on team defense, goaltending, and enough scoring to win its Cup. He is, however, still an elite shooter, and a solid top line talent who has generally been *very good* in a second line role the past 2 seasons, which is what he'd be asked to fill here (since the goal is to have 3 potential top lines, not get wrapped up in line numbering...but I say this because his ice time would project to fall in line with what a second line forward would get).

I don't think anyone advocating for acquiring Tarasenko expects him to be a 40 goal / 75-80 point guy again. However, he can create goals, he scores in the playoffs, and he's one of the best available talents that fills a need. There's no reason in the right situation he doesn't produce at a 25-30-55 pace, largely at even strength, which would be a huge asset to any team at a 5M cap hit although we certainly should look to explore retention.

Every year we lose in the playoffs it's because of lack of even strength scoring. It's been the same shit for the last 20 years. Every playoffs, it's ride Kreider and hope for enough goaltending, and try to eke every series out in 7 games. Why not prioritize someone who does score at even strength and in the playoffs for a change? Most of the names being thrown around to help the forward group are trash. Vatrano has a decent shot, but under contract next year means he's going to command more and unless the Rangers can ditch Goodrow somehow with no retention, he's going to create a cap crunch. I'm not interested in Eberle or any other pass first players on a roster that is already to reluctant to take shots and can't beat goalies clean. We have glaring issues with our top lines. Adding a depth center or another mediocre two way forward who skates OK but does literally nothing else well is not going to move the needle. Tarasenko moves the needle. Tarasenko and Greig or Pinto addresses 2 of our 3 biggest weaknesses. Then it's just a matter of upgrading our 6th D spot and figuring out how to manage everyone's ice time better so that Trouba is not playing 25 minutes a night and Fox is not anchored by Lindgren.

Yes, it all comes down to cost, and Tarasenko still has a name that's bigger than his ability. Arguably always was and definitely is now.

That raises cost.
Really? Because he essentially cost a 2nd round pick last year. Yes there was the condition but that also may have been influenced by the other parts and pieces of the trade.

Could he be had for a 3rd and 5th with 50% retention? 25% retention? If not 5% it probably doesn’t work. And if so then so be it and you look elsewhere.

I have OCD about things like that. Definitely me issue at this point.

I agree...you can see that he is slowly changing the makeup and identity of this team. So far he's been hampered by all the big, unmovable contracts. I think come the off season, we'll get a better idea of the direction he's taking the team.

No, Trouba is pretty much Ben Harpur at this point. He throws a big hit now and then and does nothing else positive at this level.
Trouba is an 8th defenseman and Drury is a bad GM, got it. This is why we are hated by other fanbases.
I didn't say Drury was a bad GM.

Also, we're hated by other fanbases because there's regularly 9,000 Rangers fans in opposing buildings.

at this point in the year all the people who were mad that Trochek was signed instead of Chytil being given the 2nd line center spot are probably seeing why that happened...somewhat less to do with Chytil's abilities and more that he can't stay healthy (and that Trocheck is a really good player and people keep trying to pigeon hole him as a 3rd liner)

Just pointing out that we are prone to hyperbole here and should probably be more grateful for the team we have. Myself included.
