Trouba is a #3-4 being paid and played as a #2.

Rozsival situation again.

Low on my list of concerns for mid-season, though.

I couldn't agree more with this entire post. Every single team has a player like this.

I know I am going to get hammered for this, but his presence and impact in the locker room can't be overstated. Doesn't make him worth the extra money and I'd still rather have Trouba at a much lower cap hit, but still.

Just pointing out that we are prone to hyperbole here and should probably be more grateful for the team we have. Myself included.
I try to avoid hyperbole. Non-reactively and with a clear head, I wouldn't put this in my starting lineup.

Im not getting into another Trouba debate, but if you were a coach or GM in the NHL, yes you would be playing him. Maybe not as much, but youd have him in the lineup.

So this is the end all be all of player evaluation?
It's basically goals and shots, so yes.

The Rangers are a very bad team when Trouba's on the ice.

The Rangers are a good team if you go by the simple metric of scoring more than the other team. Here are the Rangers who are minus players at 5v5 over the last two seasons:

22 Sammy Blais
23 Anton Blidh
24 Jacob Trouba
25 Tyler Motte
26 Connor MacKey
27 Patrick Kane
28 Tyler Pitlick
29 Ryan Carpenter
30 Barclay Goodrow
31 Zac Jones
32 Julien Gauthier
33 Dryden Hunt
34 Jake Leschyshyn
35 Nick Bonino
36 Ryan Reaves

It's a mix of 4th liners, AHL fodder, and Patrick Kane. That's because that's what Trouba is. A 4th liner, AHL fodder, Patrick Kane.

i'm bored to tears of the Trouba debate but it's nearing close to objective fact that he's not a top 4 D anymore and watching just a few shifts of him kinda handily confirm that.

at this point in the year all the people who were mad that Trochek was signed instead of Chytil being given the 2nd line center spot are probably seeing why that happened...somewhat less to do with Chytil's abilities and more that he can't stay healthy (and that Trocheck is a really good player and people keep trying to pigeon hole him as a 3rd liner)
Yes people like assuming immortality from their lines, depth? What's that.

He's certainly not a top 4 D and whether or not he should be out there at all is a bit subjective. I don't like ineffective players playing minutes for my team. The 4th line, sure. Your 4th line is going to be, you know, your 4th line. Defense is too big of a role.

People will point to the bunch of assholes the Avalance had on their D corps but we don't have the best top 4 in a generation or Nathan MacKinnon playing 24 a game.

Yet he’s a +4, which I know isn’t a great stat either but it does paint a different picture.

Colony Grill is good. Its not traditional pizza but you wont find a better drunk food in Fairfield county imo. Bacon and hot oil. Im a NYer but my wife went to college around there and we still stop every time we pass through.
Planet Pizza is EXCELLENT FFC drunk pizza, better than Colony dollar for dollar IMO.

I'd say Tarasenko was a star. Its hard to say the past couple years because he hasn't played as big a role, hes getting older now too... 3 years ago what was he, maybe top 5, top 10 in scoring for RWs? Once upon a time he was consistently either in the top 10 or flirting with the top 10 for scoring in the whole league. The scoring was much lower back then, the game was a little different at that time

In 18 games since 1/1, Trouba's actually a net positive in terms of xGF% at 51.32%. So...not spectacular, but honestly a big step up from where he was.

I still don't understand how people didn't like that signing. A+ for Drury.

Kind of funny to see the massive discrepancy between EW’s model and Dom’s where he’s basically 50th percentile across the board (47th off/46th def). Not trying to defend Trouba here, but all of these public models are pretty terrible, EW especially. Dom’s is bad too.
