Hanifan will be a UFA

I dunno who the player is but if the Rangers could find a youngish center who doesn't have great offensive numbers but good underlying numbers that help tilt the ice their way and could be had for far less than selling the farm for freakin' adam henrique then I'd probably lean that way. Their top two centers are set, can't change that at this point, they mostly need that third C to just not be Bonino or Brodzinski and spend more time in the offensive zone, not need to score 50-60 points

If they trade for Hanifan he’s a must re-sign

Also, this player is Barrett Hayton

We would have to give up half our roster, all of our Draft picks, our top 4 prospects, and a billion dollars to acquire Crosby at these prices.
Thats what you think but I dont think it is outrageous as you think depending on what/who would be on the table.

But thats why I say Gourde and then go down the list from there whether that be Hayes or someone else.

trade for Hanifin and Dowd
ship Trouba and Goodrow somewhere in the offseason
re-sign Gustafsson

2024-25:
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Lafreniere
Cuylle-Trocheck-Othmann
Vesey-Dowd-Edstrom

Miller-Fox
Hanifin-Schneider
Jones-Gustafsson

i like that a lot. that 4th line would be a mack truck. if Chytil doesn't come back Dowd would be a perfectly fine 3C.

Good luck to the team trying to acquire Henrique at $5.825M. The Lindhom and Monahan deals had no salary retention. Vancouver moved $5.5M to Calgary and Winnipeg had the space for Monahan's cap hit. $1.95M.

Vancouver and Winnipeg needed a #2 center. The lotto line is together in Vancouver. Namestnikov is the Jets 2nd line center. Schiefele has been out with an injury. There was nobody else. Traded PLD. Didn’t acquire another center.

The Rangers already have two top centers. They don't need someone in the top 6. Maybe Lindholm could have seen time on RW because there would not be enough time on the third line to justify the cost.

Find a third-line center and that should not cost a first round pick. He won't play on the first unit PP or PK.

Rangers would have likely played Lindholm in the middle and probably done so with Panarin and Laf while dropping Trocheck back to the non Zibanejad line.

If the idea was to play him with Kreider and Zibanejad then I’m even more glad they didn’t get him. Would have been a waste on so many ends.

He had 48 EV points last season. Also, Having Zegras, a center, would mean PP2 could potentially become a thing considering Zib and Tro are both on PP1, the options for a PP2 center have been Bonino, Goodrow, and Brodzinski. Look at the junk Laf has had to work with on PP2 for 20 seconds. And then people call him a bad PP player.

Give PP2 half the PP time, split the PP time, and have Zegras-Laf connection on the unit.
That was my point. He’s not gonna split the PP time. Look at the games where the 1st unit isn’t doing D. He still keeps them out there for 1:40.

I just have fear this org does something dumb like give up a first for Laughton.

Why? We havent been linked to him. And if we trade a 1st for a 3C with years left (im not a Laughton fan) that we desperately need how is that embarrassing? Tampa Bay traded 1sts and top prospects for bottom 6ers Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow then won 2 Cups. If anything we should be happy that the NHL media doesnt know shit about what the Rangers are planning.

Would rather him than Brodshitsky

I wouldnt. He sucks.

But the PP is not a reason to get or not get a player. If the Rangers can add a 22 year old center with high end offensive talent they should do it.

I'm not sure how you can equate this team to the TB team... but sure...

This team doesn't need a 3C... this team needs a core.

Goodrow, Coleman were complementary pieces to a pretty amazing core of players.

Point, Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedmen, Vailevskiy... All 30 or under at the time.

They were able to find complimentary players that helped that core take a step.

This core is not that... and will never be that. Adding complimentary pieces to a sub par core is futile.
