Lol Montreal got a 1st for taking on Monahan's contract from the Flames and now they get another first trading him 18 months later.

That's some work by Montreal. Maximum value they got there.
Just another example of the value of having cap space.

Whoever the rangers bring in as a center needs to have speed. Chytil being gone highlights again this orgs general lack of speed. Roslovic could be used in a variety of places to add that speed.

Also tbh if these are the prices rentals are fetching, f*** it, blow up the core. Do whatever you need to do to get Zibanejad, Trouba out. Get good value for guys like Kreider, Lindgren, Igor.

Only guy that should be completely untouchable is Fox.

That’s not happening. The Rangers are going to try to win and what team in their position would dismantle the organization? Just not feasible.

It seems all of the NHL players went to Mexico. Lindholm was in Mexico was flying to Toronto for the ASG from Mexico. The drug cartel guys own those resorts in Mexico. Cabo. Cancun.
Cabo. Cancun. MTV Spring Break. Real World Road Rules Challenge. Blue Team. Red Team. Team America. South America. Straits of Magellan. Circumnavigation of the world.

Nearly half his points are on the PP. How much PP time is he getting on the Jets?

The reporters to expect him to be on the top unit with Scheifele/Connor/Vilardi/Morrissey which makes is my expectation as well as historically they keep Ehlers on the second unit except for when they have no choice.

That being said there's not much additional value in him scoring points on their PP if all it does is take points away that someone else like Ehlers would have gotten anyway.

It's not really the speed as much as it was the zone entries and scoring chance generation. Chytil was good to great at both. It's not really a speed thing because Brodzinski, who has replaced him, has nothing but speed.

He was perhaps the only guy on this team who was good at entries and playing a cycle based game. Would have fit on that 3rd line really well or could have shifted back with Panarin-Laf and dropped Trocheck down who would have fit in on the 3rd line too.

Roslovic is an empty calorie player so I'd stay clear of that.

Brodzinski isn't the answer obviously, but I think that we're going to have to move forward with the assumption that there won't be a good answer for 3C. Henrique is out there and I think he would fit in decently enough but I don't want to pay these prices for him. Let him land in Colorado or Boston.

If an option that has term becomes available then its worth looking at, but there are other areas of this team I would hit first (Partner for Fox, someone to play with Zib) but even in that case, I'd only make those moves if the team can prove that they're worth adding to.

The Rangers also don't have a single valuable "rental" piece available and just because rentals are going for a high return does mean those same teams want to commit to someone who has a long term deal.

I believe the two latest trades will touch off an arm’s race in the west. If Drury was ever going to trade Goodrow, the time is between now and March 8th to get maximum value.
As much as people on this board don’t value Barclay Goodrow probably doesn’t reflect how NHL GMs do.
He is a jackknife bottom 6 player that makes most playoff contending teams better.

it sounds like there's a good chance he'll be on the 1st unit...WPG has struggled a lot on the PP. He's great near the front of the net, similar to Kreider and great at draws like Trocheck.

Also what about playing on the better team with better players?

Still, youre responding to a post about 2nd round pick being too much, which again is crazy for him @ 2M. Teams would be all over that if that was his value.

Completely sucks that Edsrom is injured. Would have Been great to give him an extended run at 3C to see if would be passable.

I like Brodz, but jeez its a black hole right now.

I think we overrate how difficult it is to take on a contract and trade someone at the deadline.

I'm gonna say every one of us could have gotten a 1st from CGY and then from WPG. You just demand it. It's not like MTL used advanced hypnosis that only Kent Hughes knows.

The counter party is the one that does the work in this instance.

That could be offset by a reduction in minutes. We'll see.

I’m not saying it’s realistic, to be clear. But if you know the core isn’t good enough to win (and I think anyone with eyes can see that), you should be setting yourself up to do so. And we’re not winning anything with Trouba and Zibanejad taking up 20% of our cap.

The only way it happens is if they completely fall apart over the next 5 weeks.

Looking at their schedule its not likely, but they just lost to some shit ass teams so maybe it is.

Even then it wouldn't be dismantling their organization. Any real heavy lifting in re structuring would happen in the summer.

Hanifin <--> Lindgren would continue the trend of players coming in and taking over the same jersey number. It's a Drury criteria I'm convinced.

The conditional pick on the Monahan deal is a nonsense add that any team would be willing to slap onto a deal. “A 3rd four drafts from now if we win the cup”. This is a reasonable deal if you wade through all the narratives and see that Monahan is probably the best fit the Jets could get for a first alone. They need help on the powerplay, and teams overpay for lots of players every year.

I am very happy that Lindholm and Monahan are off the market, and I am holding out a sliver of hope that Drury sees the writing on the wall and chooses to either stand pat or make deals for players with term. Now we just need Tarasenko and Henrique to come off the market.

Lindgren + for Hanifin
Pick(s) for Dowd

Good players that can be here beyond this year

Kevin Hayes

Side note, let’s assume Drury adds someone like Hayes and then goes out and finds a nice RW fit. Blake Wheeler is making peanuts and is a better fit for the top-9. Would there be a team interested in his services?

Hanifan will be a UFA

I dunno who the player is but if the Rangers could find a youngish center who doesn't have great offensive numbers but good underlying numbers that help tilt the ice their way and could be had for far less than selling the farm for freakin' adam henrique then I'd probably lean that way. Their top two centers are set, can't change that at this point, they mostly need that third C to just not be Bonino or Brodzinski and spend more time in the offensive zone, not need to score 50-60 points
