One nice thing to see this year is that Mika Zibanejad has developed into an extremely strong 5v5 playmaker. He's put up 0.99 primary assists per 60 minutes. That rans 37th out of 218 forwards who have played at least 500+ minutes. It's tied with Kucherov. It's better than Crosby, MacKinnon, Stutzle, Draisaitl, Guentzel, M. Tkachuk, Eichel, Robertson and many other top line players.

Edit: two more primary assists through two periods today

3C could be max domi. He does have some skill in his game + plays with some much needed jam + can play wing.

Figure:

Lindy= 2nd OR bottom pair dman OR bottom 6 forward
Kreider= 1st + prospect
Trouba= probably like a #4 dman or 3rd line winger type
Shesty= 1st + top level prospect + nhler

Domi is bad and overrated

Kolesar was crafty. Most players wait until they get closer (too close) before they shoot, the goalies don't expect the shot to come so early so they are getting ready for the shot to come later. Kolesar wrongfooted Shesty and made him look stupid.
Kolesar now has 4 goals all year. If you are getting fooled by that kind of player you are doing something wrong. Guy has never had more than 8 goals in a season Shesty should of had it. I watched that reply a bunch its dumb to stand straight up like that as it provides nothing and that additional motion can't be good for positioning. No other goalie does that and its going to burn him. Reminds me of Mackey Sasser throwing the ball back.

Not trying to rain on the parade.
Caps going up 4.2 million next season.
If Chytil is not available the Rangers only starters are 7 forwards, 3 defensemen (4 if you count Jones, I don’t)and 1 goalie.
Roughly 14.2 million to be available to sign/resign 11 players to get to a 22 man roster.
Tough job for Drury, tough luck for us. :(
Capfriendly shows the cap going up 4 mill and the Rangers having 14.5 mill to sign 9 players. That includes Leahitshow but his salary is equal to Othmann who i assume makes the team next year. You also aren't including Jones and not adding back his salary. Lastky if Chytil is out long term thats another 4.4 mill the Rangers can use to improve the team. The situation isn't as bad as you are making it out to be especially considering most of the players that need to be replaced are 4th line, 3rd pairing and a back up goalie.

EF mentioned Monahan and the Rangers tonight, but said there is bad blood between the two front offices, hopefully that stops them from trading for him.

Zero interest in Monahan. Also zero interest in working out a trade with Montreal, because I have a bad feeling that a trade only goes down if Jeff Gorton and co. is fleecing us.

Just curious since I’ve been one of the biggest Zibanejad critics here. Are secondary assists per 60 actually more variable than primary assists (5v5 of course). Both seem highly variable to me. How do you explain his 0.5 goals per 60, which is far below his career average?

Cuylle-Dowd-Kakko is the missing piece. That’s a dangerous 3rd line

Monahan is the anti-dowd. The exact opposite of what we need. Fire drury on the spot if he pays the Gorton spurned lover tax to add another soft PP merchant to a line that needs a pissed off player on it.
Interesting and he has some term for next year at not very much $$$ albeit I would like some of the younger guys like Edstrom/Berard to get a chance at the bottom 6 next year.

What do you think the cost would be because I do see the Caps as a seller by March?
I don't wanna give up much. Maybe like a Vatrano type trade?

1st rounder 50% retained. Maybe grab aube-Kubel too if youre paying the market price. He was good enough for Colorado’s 4th line in their cup year.

The games I have seen he has been decent but no way I am giving up a first. Plus that means Chytil is probably legit LTIR so retention not really necessary.
Best I am doing is a 3rd or 4th and a very light prospect.

It’s the right move for the team. The guy they should go hard for. I think he makes that whole Cuylle/Kakko pairing work. Brodz is a good soldier but he won’t hold up as 3C. Dowd gives you all you wanted from Bonino but he’s actually good and a pain in the ass. Him or Hathaway. Keep the team in the fight and they play so much better

I hope Drury is thinking like you are and totally would like a Dowd like player for the bottom 6 but with no Chytil no need to retain and he's not worth a first rounder.

Monahan would be the wrong center to target, and you know the acquisition cost would be a 1st which is insane.
agreed please no. His value is so inflated right now it's not even funny.

Hopefully Drury makes a good deal

Kevin Hayes also not a bad option if the blues retained. He’s basically Brian Boyle now. Would be a good fit with his BFF Harvard Jimmy. Fulfill your oaths.

not sure about that. doesn't he have another 2-3 years at like 7 million?
