Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

I'm betting the newly rebuilt outhouse that Hughes is exploring a center from...RUSSIA.

I have someone in mind BUT he's got 3 years to go on his new contract. Now if he breaks it...

Any unbiased person knows the habs need a 2C. Couts ain’t that. Thought that was obvious…

I never said that couturier is the solution to the habs 2C problem

I indicated that couturier is a cap dump, and that Anderson is a cap dump, which is likely why another forum member proposed that swap since they are both cap dumps

Then you refused to admit that Anderson is not a cap dump because you’re a biased habs fan

There’s no point continuing a discussion with someone that thinks josh Anderson is not a cap dump :help:

So I've just read a few pages of this topic. Let's summarize this thread so far: Montreal fans wanna get a good center but don't wanna give anything away for it. So whats the point of discussing?
The problem is that the Habs have not drafted very well, with a few exceptions, but we've had many draft picks, so we have lots of quantity but little quality. We have very little if no expendable A level prospects. Which is why I worry any trade will put us on the losing end.

I would just court UFAs or offer sheet someone

i think the best 2 yr stop gap is teravainen . underlying numbers in chicago weren’t good but it’s chicago . prior to that in carolina they were fantastic . 2 yrs left . a little over 5 million . finnish so connection with laine maybe . wouldn’t cost a fortune . maybe newhook , a second plus a prospect ( farrell ) . recoup assets in year two if it’s not a fit .
Is he a UFA?

As always, you are inventing drama.

Habs wouldn’t take on a capdump like Couts because he doesn’t serve a purpose.

This thread is about a 2C to the Habs and not a washed capdump. Try to stay on topic.

i thought my offer of newhook farrell and a second for teravainen was fair

i’ve been told he’s a winger but puck pedia has him listed as a center and i always thought he was a centre
As far as I can remember he was always a winger at the NHL level. But maybe he played half of his draft year overseas at C so up to this day he is still considered a C who plays on the wing, I don't know.

Habs probably put these pieces on the table..

1st rounders and other picks
Dach, Matheson (even the cap in/out)
One of Struble or Xhekaj
Prospect like Roy, Beck, Kapanen, Engstrom

Habs search for a 2C should be a stop gap. Someone for 2 or 3 years. Hage looks good. He might be the guy!

Just sign Duchene for 2 years. We can offer him a high AAV for 2 years

maybe a chicago fan could add input on him . when you google him it says he played center for both carolina and chicago . states he’s a defensively sound playmaking center . recently had 2-60pt seasons and 1-70 . also played in the 4 nations cup . if he was acquired with his 2 seasons left and wasn’t enough he could be flipped to recover some of the assets it took to acquire him .

not sure if i’d be putting struble on any table . he’s gonna be a beast .

I agree but it always depends on what the return is. The parts listed are solid and some we prefer not to give up but if we are after a impact 2nd line center at a young age, we will have to give to get. We won't be getting a proven young 2C by using futures only.

I think we should find a stop gap (Duchene type) as a UFA and overpay him so he signs but keep the term to 2 years ish. Allows time to develop Hage, Beck and we can also use our futures to draft more centers.

There is a high degree of probability that our 2C long term solution comes from the draft (not trade or UFA).

I would add Newhook as a potential trading piece.

Jayden Struble is another Jordan Harris. A nothing burger that the fandom overrates. Any half decent defensive defenceman would look good riding shotgun with Lane Hutson. Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj and Engstrom are the future on the Left.
euh... no.

he’s much more than jordan harris . playing against guys like that makes life miserable for opposing forwards . 2nd year defenseman getting better every game . there’s no comparison with harris at all .

The Habs should've grabbed P-L Dubois last year when they had the chance. He was at he's lowest value and went for pretty cheap, but K.H. wasn't proactive enough.
PLD was moving on from his 3rd team and had put together not only a putrid season, but was being called out by teammates including his captain.

I had wanted PLD from Winnipeg if he came cheap, as in Calgarys 1st, but LA paid big. No thanks , and after LA, no. I actually thought he would likely rebound this year because , why not ? This guy may be great this whole year, maybe even next year ,and then decide to take the year off, or want to be traded. We have a high Kharacter , hard working team, we dont need a clown like PLD around, and at $8M for 6 more years after this one.

The comparison is "getting overrated." I don't see it. He's just okay, despite a reputation for his strength you don't much see it on the ice. He should've played a bunch more games in the AHL but Hughes kept his "pet" around in MTL for that NHL coin. Yeah he was his agent back in the day and the kid even stayed over often at his house. Kent's been known to refer to him as a "son."

It’s the problem with the consistent lowball offers from Habs fans for Dobson/Barzal/Horvat. It can’t always be a a Rick from Pawn Stars type of nickel and dime offer for everyone. To say that Barzal needs to go for futures and because this is what guys historically go for which means Barzal will get at best a bottom 6 forward, late 1st and mid round pick as an offset is the comical part. Plus if Barzal was traded, the offer would be better then what you guys sent for Alex Newhook even if your fanbase is convinced otherwise.
If you want to bring up Horvat, atleast know he was traded unsigned.
Newhook was acquired for 31 and 37. How is 16 + Mailloux already not significantly higher ?
We know it will cost more than what it cost for Newhook lol.

Once again, if I’m moving Barzal/Horvat, a 1st (in a weak draft) and defensive prospect realistically doesn’t benefit the Isles in the near future. Mailloux doesn’t fill the offensive void they’re leaving by losing Barzal, he basically replaces Mike Reilly on the bottom pairing with the hope he might be able to move up in the lineup. Both Barzal and Horvat will return a better package than a 1st and B tier prospect.

You can say that alright, but you can't say that Habs fans are convinced they would get a Barzal or Horvat with Newhook value...
