Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

A team retaining for 7 years is a ridiculous ask. Wont happen, so it invalidates the whole thing

Agreed! Just not happening. Fans asking for retention that long are reaching.

Plus the Canucks are looking for proven assets in return. Maybe they are more open to trading Pettersson for a futures base if Hughes actually does leave but that is not a realization for at least one more year.

Big fan of Pettersson's skill but not a fan of his energy. It appears that he has become complacent now that he has that guaranteed contract signed. I hope he turns it around for the Canucks because I despise players who fade once they get their money. Disgusting!

I see a lot of Mesar, Roy and Mailloux in offers. Pretty sure its wishful thinking.

All have regressed (or at least stalled) on a loaded ahl team.

Beck i could see interest. Same for both X brothers.

Mesar doesn't have much value. Late 1st rounder that has stalled development and lacks physical strength. Most Habs fans would agree with you on that.

Roy still has value. Just not grade A value. Probably ends up a middle 6F type.

Mailloux has the most value from the 3. He can play and a lot of fans are sleeping on him. All he is lacking is NHL maturity. I would not be grouping Mailloux with Mesar and if you insist, you really are just talking ignorance. Not saying you will but there is a major difference between the two and I'd say Roy is in the middle somewhere.

Beck looks solid as well. Doubt he is 2C quality but could end a very good 3C.

However, these youth offers will not get us Pettersson. In most cases, youth packages gets you someone in their 30's who is in decline years and on a team who wants to change their direction (Horvat on the Islanders might be a good example). Declining in production but probably in a situation that is also holding him back (kind of like Dubois on the Kings).

Absolutely not from the habs perspective

Agreed. A whole bunch of problems with this..

1) Canucks will not be trading Pettersson for a futures base when they are trying to convince Hughes to stay. Maybe they open up to it if Hughes walks or they know he will walk. 2 more years to find out and they will know for sure July of 2026.

2) Canucks will not be retaining. Maybe they take back a contract with some term but retaining for that long is just not an realistic option.

3) Habs would welcome Pettersson's skill but we have a lot of skill at the moment. Habs need a warrior type 2C. We are not trying to build an all-star team and even if we had Pettersson on our roster against the Caps, it's not turning the physical center playoff need we are missing.

He could really help the Penguins rebuild by leaving so they can tank for McKenna and Dupont but maybe the NHL already has it set for Pittsburgh lottery balls to magicaly be picked the right way and he doesn't need to leave.

They could try moving Rakell and Karlsson. They will need to retain like 1 to 2mil aav on Karlssons deal though.
