This. All the guy has done is take money from the Rangers' organization.

He went to BU, not Harvard, and he made one of the five worst NYR trades in the last 30 years (Buchnevich for Blais), yet half the board acts like he's some kind of genius based on where he went to school? Or because he made good deadline deals to kind-of-sort-of fix problems that he created?

Seriously, though. Buchnevich deal. Top 5 worst:
-Zubov and Nedved for Robitaille and Ulf Samuelsson
-Ferraro, Laperriere, Lafayette, and Norstrom for Jari Kurri, Shane Churla, and Marty McSorley (might actually be the worst on this list)
-The Leetch trade
-The McDonagh/JT Miller trade
-Buchnevich for Blais

I can't think of any worse trades than those 5.
Not knit picking. That’s a pretty good list. But no list of Ranger’s worst trades would be complete without Middleton.

If there is anything consistent with this board it is the constant criticism of the same people over and over with no objectivity or fairness. Saying he is part of the problem is lame especially considering his production the last 2 years and through the first third of this season. Meanwhile the problem, and real problem comes down to 3 players. First 2 are KK and Laf. Back to Back top of the draft players that have not produced at the level expected.. and not even close. The third is FC. Yes he is hurt but the guy has been around for 6 years now and never reached any consistency and yet people kept expecting big things from him. Never materialized and may never unfortunately. That is 3 top picks that at this point should be considered failures. And I am not even bringing up the wasted top pick of LA the same year we chose FC.
One of the few guys playing better than his deal gets the most shit around here. Comical. You could also add zibanejad, miller, and Igor to the list.

Yes but Zibs was a trade that worked out for us in part. The latter 2 have been disappointing this year but the 3 I mentioned were top picks and the first 2 were 2 and 1 in consecutive years. If all 3 were productive and forming a top line tandem this team would have far fewer issues. You have to have better with top picks like that.

Kreider and Zibanejad need to be split up. Kreider is not applying himself enough. He isn’t finishing checks when he is one of the strongest, fastest guys on the ice. He should be more engaged to set a tone as a leader. He needs to be split up from Zibanejad. The country club needs to close down. Panarin came back this year like a house on fire. Lafreniere is playing on his off wing on that line. What is Kreider and Zibanejad’s excuses? Split them up.

Yes people sometime look at recent times but Middleton for Hodge is the worst of all time. Middleton had 5 straight years with 40+ goals and 90+ points. Over 14 seasons, had 448 goals and 540 assists. In 2 years, the last of his career Hodge had 23 goals and 44 assists.

Zibs has been a huge disappointment but Kreider has 22 goals so far second on the team. There are other players that deserve more criticism. As I mentioned Laf and KK, Laf is playing on a line with Panarin and Trochek who may be our 2 best players this year and yet he has only 11 goals and only 1 since December 27th. Is that what you expect from a number 1 pick 4 years into the league. KK was hurt but has basically been non existent.

You want to trade Lafreniere because of overpay but keep Zibanejad?
No.
1. LaF to be traded IF other team adequately overpays.
Did not say we are overpaying him in $$$

Zib has unbreakable full nmc until like week before TD in last yr of his deal.

Until re-emerging this season, you could make the case bread MIGHT waive cause it's gonna be ugly end of his deal, he ain't getting a sniff of big $$$$ and he might not get an offer from us at all. So under the right circumstances, he'd be a maybe to deal now.
But Zib, we can only hope to figure out how to return his game w/complementary linemates

When Edmonton was struggling and McDavid wasn't his usual self it would have been a good opportunity to include Igor in a large trade package for McDavid. Alas that window has closed just like my chance to buy AMZN stock in 2000 after the bubble burst. :(
McD not on the table unless/until he demands out.
LeoDrai was a possible

As you all know, I am generally in favor of flipping even productive guys IF THERE IS enuf profit to take the assets recovered, develop them, rinse and repeat = cumulative building of assets = strong productive team

Unfortunately, mgmt succumbed to win now crowd, we did rentals, etc and all I have to share with you as consolation is I wuz right an dey wuz wrong.

Shesty should have been sold earlier IF the return was high enuf
Now we have to just improve the team and wait til he returns to form.

Remember, Hank WAS all that and a bag of chips, but he did go thru like a week long stretch 2 or so yrs before the end where he had the yips or whatev and was briefly putrid. As long as Igor still has his reflexes, we can make use of him, although he will not be a sell high return trade chip until he returns to form

it's true. But I believe the criteria was last 30 years.

70s 80s had some winners for sure.

Trading Buch was so f'ing stupid.
Trading Buch was NOT stupid
Not listening to bern, and waiting until he only had a sliver of rfa rights before making a deal, greatly reducing his value, THAT was BEYOND stupid

people want to move Shesterkin, who's taking over? Garand would have to be a true #1 and are we confident he's ready for that yet? I like Garand but he might take some time. Or are we signing a plug tender from this UFA list this summer and waiting patiently for Garand to inch his way towards becoming a #1?

Russian goalies are notoriously hot & cold. He might never be what he was during the 21-22 season but I think he will figure things out and if anything, this drops his value a bit so we don't have to end up paying him 10M. I'm fine hitching our horses to Shesty at 8M or maybe a little under 8, even if it is for another 8 years. Look at the teams in this league that have struggled for YEARS to find any sort of goaltender they can call their #1, I don't think we want to end up like that. Moving Shesty should be reserved as a desperate last resort type of move.
No, while there are exceptions to every rule, the rule here is no sacred cows.
Everyone should be available to a sell high trade, incl Shesty
prob there is we didn't deal him way earlier

Urgently needed is adoption of NO EFFIN NMCs to anyone, period
If you don't like it, kma and buh bye

Yes, and let's not forget why I curse Emile cat Francis regularly
Park + Ratelle
for
Espo + Vadnais

LOL you have your many trade fantasies. Please let me have my only one. :D

No team in the history of the NHL has " blown up" a first place roster going into the All Star break. And way less so with a salary cap But...

When did the Rangers make their moves in 94?
This team will not finish the year in first place. It is not a good team.
The 94 Rangers were a team of great players who played hard. This team is the complete opposite of that.
Don't buy at the deadline, you can't trade for enough turnover to actually make the team good. We need more than 2 or 4 players. The team needs about 9 new players. That can only be done with a rebuild. Start it at the end of the year sine they should be like WC1 or 2 by deadline and no one sells in that position.
I have said it over and over but this team is not under performing, this is who they are. To expect a turnaround is to expect an over performance. We only have 1 actual NHL line. So odds are stacked against them.
They will win their fair share against non-playoff teams and lose 9 out of 10 to playoffs teams the rest of the way. That will keep them in postseason position because their start was really good.
Problem is the contracts and NMCs really handcuff them. This is going to suck for us, the players will still get paid though.

While all teams (including really good ones) go through slumps throughout the year I feel like only teams with lackluster coaching/work ethic/leadership go through slumps this bad. Mix that with a team culture that constantly puts players above the team and beer league goaltending and you have yourself the shit stew that we're currently being served.

Is Gorton going to target guys like Kakko and Jones ?

Monahan , Evans would be useful but wouldn’t want to move Kakko for rentals

What about Goodrow going back as a dump with Armia coming back to offset

Gives Zib , Tro , Monahan , Evans up the middle . Leaves a RW hole that needs to be filled

What will these guys fetch in the offseason?

Krieder, Trouba, Shesty, Lindgren

Mika is untradable (?) and we have to attach Goodrow to one of these deals.

The template for 24/25 could be:

Panarin Trocheck Laffy
Othmann Mika Kakko
Cuylle xxxxxx xxxxxx
Berard Edstrom Vesey

Miller Fox
Xxxxx xxxxxx
Jones Schneider

Garand or Quick for 1 more

How about Luke Kunin (2.75 ca0 hit, RFA this summer) for the 3rd line spot. Adds someone who can produce more than Goodrow Brodzinski has done recently and has some bite to his game. His value 2ed or 3rd round pick.

Kreider has been my favorite player since he broke in. But you have to be realistic here. Put the goals aside, his play has been shit. All over the ice. His effort has been shit all over the ice. He is the veteran leader. He has not been leading by example in the ways this team needs, not just in this current horrid slump the team is going through, but even during the playoffs. He looks like he is floating around out there. No jump in his game. His feet dont move in his own end. He just puck watches. You are letting the bursts of speed here and there with the redirection goals fool you. He is not nearly engaged enough. He needs to get angry. Play with a little more force.

Drury got so much criticism for the ‘I’m not going to let it ruin my weekend’ comment many moons ago, but Kreider literally plays that way every night it feels like. Like go out there and start throwing the body. Crashing the net. Shoving guys after whistles.

Guy has 8 points and is a -18 playing on the 4th line lol..we don't need anymore Goodrows

I really wonder how many players would instantly waive their NMC/NTC if Sutter was hired to replace Peter today.

It could solve a lot of problems.

Oh come on. Given what NYR spent on players during that stretch you think an extra 4-5 mil gives us a better shot at the cup than a first ballot hall of fame goaltender?

If we keep Carl Hagelin but have Anti Raanta in net we win a cup? I highly doubt it.

The anti goalie propaganda has reached its zenith
When did we win a Cup?

3C could be max domi. He does have some skill in his game + plays with some much needed jam + can play wing.

Figure:

Lindy= 2nd OR bottom pair dman OR bottom 6 forward
Kreider= 1st + prospect
Trouba= probably like a #4 dman or 3rd line winger type
Shesty= 1st + top level prospect + nhler
