Here are the guys I'm interested a unqualified RFA's:

Ryan Donato
Nicholas Aube-Kubel
Sonny Milano

Potential buyout candidates:
Patrick Hornqvist
Oscar Lindblom

I personally think they’re going to trade Kakko

More so because they like Othmann they like Kravtsov Blais and Cuylle. Theyve obviously got Lafreniere kreider Goodrow and panarin

They need to spend money down the middle. Big money. You win with centers and defensemen.

I think kakko is in a JT Miller or Dubois deal. I’m sure they like Kakko a lot but they don’t really want to pay him and he unfortunately just hasn’t been what they hoped he would be. Believe me if he were a game changer they wouldn’t be having the conversation

Kakko for 12 months of JT Miller is horrendous asset management, hope that doesn’t happen
Not to mention what it does to RW depth. Yeah, we were supposed to have Kravtsov there last season as well. How about we actually wait and see if he's the fit. If he is, then trading Kakko might make sense.

Can’t think of a better example of a wet fart of a player just after signing to be here. Year one Brendan Smith comes to mind, but at least he had that initial playoff run.
At least Smith salvaged his tenure with us in the last year or two…

They don't need to make this decision right now though. Evan at $2.3-2.5m Kaako is a valuable piece on a 2 year deal. Kick the can down the road, see how players develop and what options open up on the trade market and go from there. There isn't really a 'good' option that requires Kaako be part of that equation right now. Miller and Scheifele are decent fits but not ideal.

This is a hard truth that some need to come to terms with. They have a million young wingers and we all knew the way the rebuild went that eventually some would be traded for a center. Getting an impact 2C locked down is more important than holding onto a guy who to this point looks like a middle 6 defensive oriented winger. Lafreniere & K'Andre are the only 2 who have shown they are keepers, ill add Schneider too because 2 more years on an ELC is very valuable.

Bad example. The idea is to find a good player in the bargain bin, one who compliments what the team needs. With limited cap space, the team has to be more creative in how they go about solving problems, rather than just throwing the most money at the biggest name.
again, so you are looking for a Christensen, a guy that otherwise hasnt worked out in a role you are going to slot him into and you hope he is a bargain buy that exceeds what he actually has been to this point.

I still dont think you win a cup with that player as your 2c. ryan strome may be the best example of what you are talking about finding in a guy that was pulled off the scrapheap for a player that was bought out the next year, and strome turning into a legit offensive nhl forward albeit not the complete type of player we all wanted to see here.

that being said i dont think anyone expected this team to win a cup with ryan strome as the 2c and i dont think most people would expect to win a cup with a ryan strome 2.0 as the 2c. the bottom 6 is where you hide these reclamation projects and you let them play their way into a bigger role if they do exceed their previous levels (which is what strome and christensen did), you dont go and get that kind of guy with the idea that they ARE filling that glaring hole in a lineup that you hope will contend for a cup next year and has chytil as the only real center depth on the roster behind zibs.

I dont think Drury is thinking much later than summer of 2025
and budgeting around the cap today is not the same as planning to budget around it in 3 years from now. once the owners are paid back things are going to change for the league. the new revenue makers for the league that they have brought in the past couple of years to mitigate losses arent going away, they are here to stay. the cap will continue to climb once the payback is completed, possibly even a year prior if they decide to do the soft increase to the cap the year early such that is being talked about.

Really? Impact top-6 wingers? I would like to see that actually come to fruition before trying to trade an asset that has his value at an all-time low at this point.
