You're asking a management group who, year after year and regime over regime, have been ABYSMAL at pro scouting (Zbad - the exception that proves the rule), to make above average decisions based on their pro-scouting, on players who've already failed on other teams.

Big ask IMO
Perhaps, but if we want to win more than 1 cup in 82 years, we need to start doing some things better than we have in the past. With so many players not getting QOs, there is a lot of value out on the free agent market. And there is a lot of value in the trade market too, with teams looking to shed cap to sign high priced free agents. Instead of spending on a high priced free agent or an expensive trade acquisition, we need to take advantage of the market and get good players at a discount.

I'd rather have Stastny than Strome.
I don’t want anything to do with Ryan Strome. Dude was a good Ranger, but it’s time to move on. I don’t mind Stastny as a stop-gap option, and it makes sense since he played under Turk for 2 years. The only thing that worries me is that he moves like actual molasses now, and I don’t necessarily want to get slower. He still makes it work though.

I still think I prefer Colin White and Dakota Joshua as two C options.

Oh I'm just answering who I'd rather have that is realistic. I do want Stastny regardless of what else they do.

I like White as a low buy option. I dont know enough about Dakota Joshua.

Malkin 4 x $5.25. It gets him some more cash than the rumored 3 x $6 from Pittsburgh. And there are a lot of surrounding factors that would make this is a palatable move for him. Location, State of the Team, Travel schedule.

Re-Sign Motte. Re-Sign Braun on the cheap. Bridge Kakko. Sign Holtby or Lindgren. Try and squeeze in one more Vet.

One more variable would be Patrick Kane, IF Drury can get a 3rd team to retain another 50%. Would be an all in move.

We have about $9 mill in cap going into the offseason unless we can move nemeth. Tbh if it costs lundkvist + a 3rd to unload nemeth im fine with that and what youre proposing.

Kreider-Mika-Laff
Panarin-Malkin-KK
Blais-Chytil-Krav
Goodrow-Rydahl-Reaves/Hunt

Just dont think motte is in the cards tho. We signed rydahl to be on the roster imo. Also dont think we’ll be able to get malkin that cheap.

This entire issue is just so god damn aggravating considering if they had gone 6 years for Danault we're probably not in this situation.
Lets be real, danault had 4 points in 22 playoff games in 2021 and isnt anything special. Hes a dime a dozen player for 5.5. Is he even better than strome?

Rydahl is not preventing us from keeping Motte. That is just not even remotely plausible.

The "leftover" UFAs are probably going to end up being the players that price themselves too high, and/or the ones who are unwilling to play in the markets who have the cap space to sign them.

Rangers have a desirable market, they should use that to their advantage (always should have)

Don’t know how they make it fit but just get the feeling they go hard after Kadri

He would need to take a discount and they'd need to have a trade lined up for Kakko or Chytil to make the money work. Seems like a lot of moving parts but he is a perfect fit player wise

There’s a butterfly effect to what you just said. Say they signed Danault last summer. Does he play well? Does he find chemistry? But more so, do the Rangers still have a good season and trade for Copp, Vatrano, Motte, and Braun? Do they make the conference finals then? Do they have their first round pick still? It’s real easy to play Monday morning quarterback.

I know it takes lots of tinkering but it just feels likes the classic Rangers type move here plus Drury can then use those assets he would’ve spent on a center elsewhere

I smell a trade of one of Kakko, Chytil or Kravtsov this offseason. Drury isnt going to want to have to deal with RFA contracts for all 3, plus K'Andre & Laf over the next 2 summers. Couple that with Othmann & Cuylle being front and center coming off excellent seasons, it just seems like the logjam will be cleared in some way.

Whether that means they use the savings to sign Kadri/Malkin or trade for JT/Dubois, i dont know. But the Rangers have a surplus and I think a trade is coming

Malkin to the Rangers? Not sure how I feel about that one. Would be a stop gap till someone else comes along.
