The Canucks could wait until next year’s trade deadline to move him but I suspect it could get done this week if a team steps up with the package the Canucks are asking for."

You mean you can do that? Huh. How do you like that? I thought it was ideal to trade your quality players for some pretzels and a Marty Brodeur-wannabe bottom-6 guy (see Miller/McDongh trade and Buchnevich trade)

It's quite entertaining how people advocating trading young, improving players for JT Miller are also completely overlooking how we actually once had a young, improving player named JT Miller and traded him away for peanuts.

Hopefully this is a huge smokescreen to get the Devils to commit to him and give up a ton of assets to make the deal work. Force them to give up #2 for an extended Miller.

If Drury trades Kakko for JT Miller, he should be fired on the spot. No questions asked.

Would be insane to go from a rumored package of Chytil, Lundkvist, pick to Kakko being the piece.

I am going to wait for this to take more shape before getting emotionally involved with it. Trusting Drury is smarter than that and that its just the Canadian media drumming up nonsense.

You guys are freaking about nothing. Drury is not going to trade Kakko for one year of Miller. Kakko could be in the desk if there is an extension (and plan for the cap) in place or if more is coming back with Miller. Marek is very clearly just speculating based on the chatter and Kakko being the healthy scratch in the playoffs.

More likely we see Chytil with some small adds or Lundkvist as the headline piece in a deal.

It's not being overlooked, it's irrelevant.

First of all, improving isn't a word I heard a lot about Miller in February 2018. Second, Miller's improvement into what he is now can be looked at a couple of ways: (1) a product of him getting dumped twice and realizing he needed to change some things, consistent with how he describes it himself; or (2) inevitable, and the Rangers made a huge mistake in trading him. Either way, why would it mean the Rangers shouldn't trade for him now?

I would like the Rangers to try to take this a little slower than they are, but I don't see any reason why Miller isn't a worthy target.

I will just state that I prefer:

Copp @ $5.25m per season for 6 years
Chytil
Lundkvist
1st

Over

Miller for 1 season

Call me crazy
But again, don't you think that if Copp was willing to go 6/5.25 that he would be signed already?

What if its 6/6, NMC first 4 years. 10 team trade list the last 2?

I think its great, we couldn't ice a proper team when there wasnt a cap outside of 94. We'd have Marleau, Thornton, Karlsson, and Giordano all signed long term now instead of playing Laf, Kakko, Miller and Fox.
Gomez, Drury, Redden, Richards, Shattenkirk.

Even now, our best player is a UFA signing. We went out and got Trouba when we didn't need to because we could.

The idea that the cap forced us to stop buying core pieces isn't founded. Nor should we stop. Signing free agents is part of the game.

Not to mention we don't play Laf and Kakko anyway. Since we can't sign Eric Lindros anymore, we're putting Goodrow and Blackwell ahead of them. Nothing about our ideology ever changed.

Also the whole "retirement home" thing is a meme. Like, no, the Rangers would not have a bunch of 39 and 40 year olds. They never did. The only guy they acquired during the Dark Ages over the age of 32 was Messier for his second stint. Lindros and Panarin came to the Rangers at the same age.

I do wonder if the plan is to go for it one more year with this core and get a 2C (i.e JT Miller) with non foundation pieces and if they don’t win, they’ll semi blow it up and try to rebuild with pieces from trades of guys like Kreider or Trouba

I support this, just warn @Tob & I first so we can escape via canoe. We’ll sail through the arctic and arrive on the shores of the great state of New Jersey.
Your best bet is to sail the Pacific to Mexico and then just walk across the border that way. Even if you meet resistance they will just release you into the interior of the country anyway. Not sure about @Tob he's probably on a list.

I get the feeling that Drury wants Copp short term and why would Copp do that

I’m talking like 3-4 years. Would be willing to bet he doesn’t want another long term commitment on the books after Goodrow

f*** JT Miller. He is a leader of a room that was called "soft", "weak" and "country club". Just like his mentality was here and in Tampa. Let him go rack up meaningless points in the regular season for shit teams. He only ever produced once in the playoffs and he went enough times for that to be unacceptable. That includes AHL and OHL.

Based on everything Drury has done since he became GM, I have serious doubts that he is interested in Miller. He is 100% opposite every player he has brought in since he took over. Drury will play this offseason close to the vest to see if our guys take the next step I'd imagine.

Chytil, Kakko, Nemeth for

J.T. Miller

(+ minor odds and ends attached to fit and taste)

clears the books and opens cap space for a potential extension as long as it's not too outlandish. NYR win now special only for you my friends.

I read Vancouver asked for Lapierre, McMichael and a prospect for JT from Washington. Which makes sense if you only look at the 1C, they never become available part of the equation.

I want JT more than many here, but theres so much smoke with no tangible news that I dont expect anything to happen. I definitely don think Drury will trade Kakko for 1 year of him either. Feels like Vancouver wants the Devils to up their offer

Is it really lots of reports if it's only a few people citing the same person? It's just like copy and paste jobs.
I appreciate the thought!, I do it gets kind of annoying when people do this.
That being said, Frank and Lebrun did a segment on this just recently.

Theres way too much smoke. Nobody other than Marek is reporting the Kakko part tho! (Looks like he was speculating)

- Pierre just made an Article on the Rangers Interest, Not Mentioning Dreger.

Seravalli talked about this for a good 5/6 Minutes.

Here is what Lebrun Said!

Apparently the Canucks are looking for a team to step up
