Brooks is wrong.

Or buy and have it paid off in no time.
Even if Brooks was right, it means very little. VK is still getting his legs under him on smaller ice. Gauts should destroy him in training camp...even with that, I agree that I saw much more from VK. No idea why Larry is so in love with Gauts, he's had plenty of opportunities and given the Rangers every reason to cut him.

Quiet news day? I assume they skate tomorrow before the game Wednesday, but not sure about today.

Gauthier would be claimed in a heartbeat . There are GM's out there waiting for his exposure.....and they are the same ones Drury has been in discussion with on a trade for him . Drury wants a pick back.....and the other GM's want to save one . Guys that are that size and have that speed and take it to the net will continue to get chances .....a couple of more for sure . I suspect Ottawa and or Montreal are both watching . Either way....I think he is done in NY unless he has a huge hit-fight or scores a goal in his next exhibition game .
Paraphrasing: A verified poster on this board stated possibly Gauthier going to Montreal for a fourth(?).

Drury’s doesn’t like walking away from capital. Might be holding out for a higher offer. That’s why all the playing time.

Montreal would be a good landing spot for him. That team isn't contending so they can play him on their 3rd line & give him the chance he wouldn't get here. Maybe the light finally comes on for him...I hope he figures it out. Seems like a good kid.

So preseason play means very little for Kravtsov to determine if he makes the team but at the same time Carpenter hasn't been good in preseason so he shouldn't make the team. Either the preseason matters or it does not for the guys competing for a spot. For the most part, it should not, as you cannot make a sound judgment off 2-3 games.

don't follow Habs closely, but the 'word' on them, during Camp, is they need to clear their glut of Fs

Ottawa could be a fit, Giroux as mentor
I kinda like Kastelic, C w size, and he is waiver exempt again this year

Every situation is different, I think Krav does have a little bit of a built in excuse as he's getting used to smaller ice. That said, you saw his talent pop out here and there. I think he has something to build off of. Carpenter has been playing on this ice for his entire life and still looked like absolute dog shit. No excuse, he's not a valuable NHL player...and that judgement is not based off of just 2-3 games, he's been a bad player for most of his career.

The alternative solution to the Carpenter problem is to do Hunt-Goodrow-Reaves or Vesey-Goodrow-Reaves with Blais re-elevated.

He has good defensive results every single year of his career including last year.

Kravtsov has played 20 NHL games and 39 AHL games. How long does it take for someone to get used to the smaller ice? Not to mention most KHL teams have the smaller ice surface now anyway.

People respond viscerally to players who are visually bad offensively. Motte is so bad offensively that he never even had the puck to make a mistake with it, which is why everyone flocked to him.

I don't think Carpenter is that bad but I also think he's been outplayed by others in camp so far.

Motte is also pretty quick, Carpenter looks slow af.

Motte also has more points this preseason than anyone on our team by far lol but that’s a different issue

You don't understand. The sample size that is appropriate is very dependent if the results of that sample confirm what I wanted to believe.

Or just waive Carpenter, but they want to keep the depth.

It makes sense, its early. But theres no doubt right now that any combination of Vesey-Rydahl-Goodrow-Blais will give this team their most effective 4th line. In fact it will probably be one of the strongest 4th lines they've had in some time.

But Carpenter will get the nod to start and I will be longing for the moment Rydahl gets his shot, whenever that may be. Because he's shown a lot better. And Reaves will play, as will Hunt probably, so we wont get a the strongest combination possible.

Why not? McIllrath is making $475,000 this season in the AHL. His money is protected from escrow. He can rent a mansion in Pennsylvania for $1500 per month.
You can't rent anywhere any longer for $1500 a month.

Some teams are going to want to move a contract to take Gauthier or Hunt. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rangers take back a career minor league (under $1MM) who can be buried in the ECHL or AHL and a draft pick for either of these players.

That may be true but he's here to be a defensive presence and someone Gallant trusts. He's not here to score and if he's solid defensively which he has been in the past who cares about his skating.
We've seen this before with guys who were predicted to be and were garbage, but hung around because of supposed but non existent defense and coach blah blah blah. Need to simply keep the better players. Incremental improvements and all.

Or Rydahl

According to Pronmon there are several LHD that will be available on the wire

Mahura - ANA
Mackey - CGY
Valimaki - CGY
Olivier-Joseph - PIT
Alexeyev (inj) - WSH

He also says Lias Andersson will go through waivers

I doubt they will waive Hajek just to take a flyer on someone. He will be the 7th with Jones to start off the year.

Dallas is 14th.

Capitals finish first in the Metro

Pittsburgh misses the playoffs

Rangers-Islanders would be a very good first round series
