So is Gauthier.

Which is actually a perfect example. If Gauthier did absolutely nothing instead of f***ing up three high-danger chances a game, people would like him.
Comparing Gauthier to Motte is not a good example at all. Gauthier was a first round pick with a high ceiling while Motte was a 4th round pick. The expectations between their careers isn’t even close. Motte is the prototypical 4th liner who teams trade for at the deadline. Speed, great forechecker, feisty, been in the league for a while. Gauthier is a former first round pick who has/had a high ceiling because of his size and skating ability and he showed like he was going to be able to score goals while playing in the AHL. People don’t have a favorable opinion of Gauthier because he’s busting/about to bust and his IQ is awful. People have a favorable view of Motte because he has a great work ethic. Motte, at 5’10 or whatever he is, plays a bigger game than Gauthier who’s 6’4. And that about sums it up.

If we get a stud center from that pick, it's 1000% worth it, but Nils is going to be a good player and it would have been nice to have him in reserve for when we decide that Trouba or Lindgren or both are too expensive to keep anymore. And that is going to sting.

Isn’t 2023 supposed to be a weak draft?

Lol its pre season against a half roster and a back up goalie.

Relax guys.
Seriously.

Plus, if Nils' biggest value to a team is his play on the PP then trading him made the most sense considering we have one of, if not the best, PP defensemen in the league already on our team.

We got a good return, good luck to Nils. Trade can be the rare win-win for both teams if he is good on Dallas' PP.

The opposite. The 2023 draft is supposed to be one of the best. The top 3 are all franchise changing talents, and there’s a significant amount of talent down until the 20s, as opposed to usually the 10s.
Guys who might go 10 in a usual draft could sit at 25

Is Fantilli your 3rd?

Lundkvist demanded a trade. He could've come to camp and competed for an open spot that Jones or Hajek will get. I fail to see how this is the Rangers fault or that they did anything but a great job getting the return they did. This isn't the Buchnevich trade all over agin.

Agreed. Lindgren will be done sooner rather than later given his style of play. But realistically you want Schneider there with Fox instead of a PMD

I don't mind Vesey on the Mika line at all and I'm certainly encouraged that Rydahl is skating ahead of Carpenter & Reaves.

Blais - Goodrow - Rydahl is a 4th line other teams will not want to play against
Dont set yourself up for disappointment.

Carpenter is 100% making this team and starting. He will be the 4C and a part of the PK... and a staple for late game scenarios

- At least we have a solid 4th line of Blais-Goodrow-Rydahl.

- I don’t want to see a single comment about Kakko or Laf not “earning” top 6 minutes. Because Jimmy Vesey certainly hasn’t, but here we are.

How does he earn minutes then if leading the team in preseason scoring isn't good enough?

I actually wouldn't mind Vesey as a stop gap on that top line. It slots Goodrow down the 4C and takes Carpenter out of the lineup. If a stop gap, whether if be Vesey or someone else, can fill that slot for a few months then we can upgrade that spot closer to the trade deadline just like last season with Hunt on line 2.

It hinges on Gallant giving the top 3 lines each almost equal 5v5 ice time per game though.
