There are still some Rangers fans on here that think he's salvageable
I was concerned enough by this to do a search on the board as I hadn't come across it anywhere. Still can't find anything...
Who's thinking he's an NHL defenceman, and do we need to organise someone to go and check on their well-being?

In my head, I think Gallant is looking to take 2 players each from those groups of 4. He's pitting them against each other to see who comes out on top.

No inside knowledge just my interpretation of that.
Hey, i'm with you in hoping thats the mindset. Leaves open the possibility of Blais-Reaves and Vesey-Rydahl. Like I've said in nearly every post, Rydahl is my choice as the winger/extra C, but I'm assuming Carpenter makes the team and Rydahl is 1st callup based on contract status.

Nylander waived, making 750k. Is he a bust at 24?
Honestly I'd take a waiver on him. Give him a shot at RW with Kreider-Zibanejad.

Slots Blais back down to 4th and we can have the makings of a potentially great 4th line of Blais-Goodrow-Vesey. Reminiscent of our 2013-2014 great 4th line that allowed us to make that run. The kid line is defacto 3rd line that was Pouliot-Brass-Zucc.

Kreider/Zibanejad/Kakko
Panarin/Trocheck/Kravtsov
Lafrenier/Chytil/Blais
Goodrow/Rydahl/Reaves
Gauthier 13th Forward

Cut:Vesey
Waive with the intent to demote to Hartford:
Brodzinski
Carpenter
Hunt

When the Rangers signed Carpenter, someone from the Blackhawks board came over and said he was shot.

i normally blow that kind of input off but I think that guy was probably right.
I also posted that he was garbage in Vegas. He has zero offensive ability & is a below average skater, as we're all seeing first hand.

That may be true but he's here to be a defensive presence and someone Gallant trusts. He's not here to score and if he's solid defensively which he has been in the past who cares about his skating.

If, based on the few games we have seen, Gallant trusts Carpenter over Rydahl, I have to question his eyesight and or sanity. Carpenter has sucked, while Rydahl has been pretty good. I am sorry, but f*** waiver eligibility, you keep the much better player. Let Carpenter play in the AHL or another team, the Rangers would be better off.

Vesey/Rhydal deserve to make the team based on their play. Management/Coach loses all credibility if they claim spots were open and don't give them to the players most deserving.

Hunt/Gauthier/Brodzinski/Carpenter to Hartford. Maybe 1 gets claimed. We have solid options for injury call ups if 2-3 make it down.

Kreider/Zib/Blais
Panarin/Trochek/Kravtsov
Kid Line
Vesey/Rhydal/Goodrow
Reeves

Looks real solid to me.

What? He has been total dogshit and outplayed by just about everybody competing for a spot.

If you want to overreact to a few preseason games that's your prerogative. I'm not married to him making the team but he most likely will and there's a rationale behind it. If he's bad then Rydahl should be given a shot.
Part of training camp and pre season games is for some players to win spots on the roster. Guys like Rydhal have flat out done that with the ice time he has been given. Carpenter has done nothing to win a spot over him. The rationale should be the player who actually plays better to win the roster spot.

He may be good defensively but I think we are in a position to ask for a little more than a polite, one dimensional defensive specialist in the starting lineup.

Gauthier would be claimed in a heartbeat . There are GM's out there waiting for his exposure.....and they are the same ones Drury has been in discussion with on a trade for him . Drury wants a pick back.....and the other GM's want to save one . Guys that are that size and have that speed and take it to the net will continue to get chances .....a couple of more for sure . I suspect Ottawa and or Montreal are both watching . Either way....I think he is done in NY unless he has a huge hit-fight or scores a goal in his next exhibition game .

Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere
Panarin-Trocheck-Kravtsov
Goodrow-Chytil-Kakko

Blais
Reaves
Hunt
Carpenter
Vesey-Hunt or Carpenter will be out if Vesey is in. If Goodrow plays on the wing, the Rangers need Carpenter. Goodrow should be in the top 9 with his $3.6M cap hit.

Goodrow was a key member of TB's best line in their two Cup winning seasons. He can play with Chytil and Kakko.

Kravtsov gets his act together playing with Panarin. Drury can trade Kravtsov for a good return after the season.
