I'd run with:

Kreider-Z-Vesey
Panarin-Tro-Krav
Laf-Chytil-Kakko
Goodrow-Rydahl-Blais
Reaves

On off days demote Rydahl and bank even more cap space.

I wonder if Drury would put a claim in on McKegg as insurance in case someone claims Carpenter if they decide to waive him.

He needs to learn how to punish guys with his size and speed and he will pot a few goals while doing it . He could easily enough have a 15 goal season if he played physical and exert himself a bit more . Size/speed just going to waste with him . Some guys just don't have that mean hateful streak in them....

Vesey has done well enough for a contract and a spot but are they willing to potentially lose depth sending Hunt through waivers and burn a contract slot to sign Vesey? I don’t think that there’s enough difference between the two to do this (maybe on PK?) but my guess is that team brass will sign him. So you have Goodrow - Carpenter - Vesey as your 4th line to open the season.

Vesey can score occasionally. Hunt adds no offense. Why worry about losing him if Vesey is te choice. You'll only have one or the other anyway.

I prefer Vesey to Hunt, and they are essentially filling the same role, 4th line energy guy that will inevitably be a top 6 RW when one of the kids have a bad game.

Hunt fit for a few games with Strome and Panarin but it got old fast. If one of them ever ends up in the top 6 this season - which would be a huge mistake when we have Krav/Kakko/Laf - I much prefer Vesey.

Hunt can be waived. Vesey fills his role. We know Reavo won't be waived. Goodrow is 4C, so I see no need for Carpenter who is slower than Rydahl.

Waive Carpenter. Keep Reaves as an extra. Run Rydahl-Goodrow-Vesey. If Goodrow is injured Rydahl can slide to center, Vesey to left, and slot Reavo in on right.

If Carpenter passes through waivers luckily, then we can call him up in event of injury. I fear though, that he will be kept due to relationship with GG and Rydahls contract status as free to pass from NHL-AHL.

I fear the same with Hunt and that we will end up with 2 forward scratches, which will only inhibit our ability to accrue cap space and make additions at deadline

Carpenter is going to be 4C with Hunt on his left and Blais on his right ... isn't he? Not a bad line, but god I do not like 1LRW Barclay Goodrow.

And Vesey earned his spot on this team over Hunt, I really hope Drury pulls rank and tells GG its Vesey over Hunt.

I think Gallants been a great coach, can't complain after last season, but all coaches have their favorites and we saw it ruin this team for far too long with Quinn and AV. Sometimes the GM just has to take the toys away for the best of the team, and I hope Drury does that with Hunt/Vesey situation

It’s A Bad line of they pick the wrong 4th liners.

they are also going to need to rent a right wing as soon as cap allows it

In my head, I think Gallant is looking to take 2 players each from those groups of 4. He's pitting them against each other to see who comes out on top.

No inside knowledge just my interpretation of that.

McIlrath has only played a couple dozen NHL games since leaving here. He's like a #9/#10 depth defenseman at this point. We don't need him in any capacity.
