Also Hajek stinks, no idea what they see there.

Has to be that they’re saving face on how shitty the McDonagh/Miller deal was, only thing that makes sense to me

I’m fine with Nils doing what he’s doing

He owes the team nothing and whatever he can do to change his situation, he’s entitled to.

I thought I saw he requested a trade in January, Drury should have been on this frankly
I'm sure he was. Just because Nils didn't get traded doesn't mean Drury wasn't discussing it. Apparently Nils was part of the offer for Miller.

If he's not going to show up to training camp, I don't think I'm loaning him to the SHL if I'm Drury. It would be much easier to facilitate a trade if he showed up and teams got to see him in preseason games. Whatever, there are lots of jobs outside of hockey. In this economy, he should be able to get a pretty good one.

No our best case scenario is Laf and Kakko run with the top rw spots, and never look back

The concept of #1 is based on ice time.
You can roll out whatever line you want to first, it doesn’t really matter.
Mika and Panarin both play similar amounts while being on different lines.

Zib had over 400 more shifts than Panarin last season. That's 5 more shifts a game.

Kakko played well with bread numerous times. This narrative that he 'never played well with bread and Strome' is bullshit. Also, Kakko was a bright spot in the playoffs and was a part of a few momentum shifts during this run. Gallant said he is basically handing Laf and Kak top 6 spots so what are you talking about ?

Krav has to work his way up from the ground up and yes, may land in a top 6 RW because one spot is open. Our best case scenario is Kak and Krav run with the two top 6RW spots and never look back.
I agree with the last point, but kakko has not played well with bread in my opinion. i am not going to get into a debate or argument for who is right, but i was answering the question of why i had vk on the line with bread and kakko on the line w chytil and otter in the previous post.

I have not seen gallant say anything about handing kakko a top 6 spot, i have only seen that about laf who has earned such a spot. i am not sure how you are "handing" a top 6 role to a player that you just healthy scratched in an elimination game the previous season. that is a beyond a stupid assertion if he made it...

Personally i think they sent him down because Drury wanted to teach him a lesson from their issues in Hartford. There was absolutely no reason to send him down....0
That’s just looking for a reason to blame Drury. Kravtsov had an injury and wasn’t in top shape. They wanted him to work it out in Hartford. He’s a big baby

He can do whatever he wants but these moves don't generally work for the players since the team still has no immediate incentive to trade him.

Remember when the vitali news broke that he had demanded a trade and flew back to Russia and the Rangers social media account spammed something like RANGERS HOCKEY RANGERS HOCKEY RANGERS HOCKEY RANGERS RANGERS HOCKEY RANGERS HOCKEY RANGERS HOCKEY in an obvious attempt to like... Literally distract a baby from noticing kravtsov had bailed. Now they post video of Filip eating macarons in France.

IMO it's a couple factors

1) Familiarity with the system and team (Maybe he's well liked in the room? Who knows)

2) Satisfaction with not playing frequently (He's making a lot more here than he would be in the Czech league)

3) His perceived versatility in terms of being able to play both sides of the defense. In my opinion this is because he sucks equally on both sides, but there you go.

Nik Bobrov specials.
exactly my point. i dont think it is surprising that the "type" of people drafted the past two years has been noticeably different.

also, people would be foolish, absolutely foolish to think that the circus that was lias and how it was handled didnt impact the way agents handled future issues with nyr 1st rounders. lias cried his way out of everything, drury has done a great job nipping that shit and making it pretty obvious he holds the hammer on what is happening with these situations. he deserves a lot of credit for doing it, doing it professionally, and doing it quietly bc once there is an idea for players and agents that they can push an organization around that becomes a hard thing to break unless your management has a very specific history around it, like a Lou or Yzerman. Drury has done a fine job getting this under control and if claude is advising nils that drury will crack like gorts did then he hasnt paid attention recently to the fact this is drury's world when it comes to these personnel challenges and situations.

Funny enough, I think Lias was the only one who had a legitimate gripe.

Dude was physically injured, wasn't communicated with or given anything resembling a fair shake at the NHL level. Not that it would have changed the trajectory of his career, but I can at least understand where he was coming from.

Krav? f***ing moron for running home as quickly as he did last year as he would have been called up after 3 games. Nils? LMFAO at him requesting a trade for being sent down months later than he should have been. I have no problem at cutting off our shipping out the entitled - Plenty of other players have been sent down and worked their way back into the lineup, both here and on every other team in the league.

Theres no doubt that they've drafted different types of people since the change in management, I just hope they dont veer too heavily in that direction moving forward. We have exactly one first round pick of data so far (and he very much fits the bill of what you'd expect attitude wise but he's got ability too) but if anything, the last draft makes me a bit worried, even if the Sykora and BMB picks were pretty solid and more or less unanimously praised.

Drury was assistant GM, he absolutely had his fingerprints all over that deal
regardless, who cares. the player hadnt evolved into the player that any of them hoped he would. time for everyone to move on, we have much better players in position and knocking on the door to jobs, but as a 7th or 8th d you could do worse than libor

He can do whatever he wants but these moves don't generally work for the players since the team still has no immediate incentive to trade him.
agreed, for a player that is not an established nhler they rarely have any leverage in these situations, and the team has no reason to do anything to help that player either...

If it's true that he requested a trade immediately after being sent down, f*** him. I wouldn't have demoted him, but it's absurd to think he had nothing to learn from the AHL. Toll his contract and play hardball. No loans. Rot and ruin your career for all I care. When Nils decides he wants to be an adult and work for his spot in the NHL, or, you know, make himself a trade target with his play, he can come back. Yzerman's Drouin playbook in the guide here.

I have nothing against players getting every cent they can when they're free agents, but this kid is under contract and can't play anywhere without the Rangers giving the thumbs up.

And this isn't the NFL, where contracts aren't guaranteed, and a team can cut you after you blow out your knee. Guaranteed contracts go both ways.

If these two pan out, and they certainly seem to be on the right track, it will give this Rangers team another dimension that need but don't currently have right now with consistency. Guys who can actually play a skilled game, willing to battle and play with an edge. I know people hate this take but I really believe Kakko & Kravtsov's days are numbered if they don't show tangible improvements this year. Lafreniere has already shown more than both and we are still very deep with the wing prospects who are getting close to the NHL level.
While I’d love it if all these guys panned out AND played for the NYR, odds are one or two get moved. Numbers game. Both in positions/roles and cap space allocation.
I just dont find him to be overrated. He was doing things in the SHL that many before him had not done at his age. His trajectory was upward. I still think it is. I think he has a lot of the tools to be a successful defenseman in the NHL. He has the fluid skating, the passing ability with a good first outlet pass, the heavy shot, and he can be elusive to avoid big contact. I for one was not one of those guys ready to so easily pencil him into the lineup period let alone bumping Fox off of PP1. I think he has some growing and developing to do. I think if you are realistic and objective he is rated just fine, but if you are someone that had him in the top 4 from Day 1 and a guaranteed fixture moving forward then yes that small faction certainly overrated him.
Maybe you didn’t overrate him, that remains to be seen, but plenty of folks did. I didn’t bang the drums for him, but I’ll admit I expected more. And it was party because of the opinions I was reading. I don’t always get to watch prospects a lot.
Yeah, that was the report, but I don’t buy it for a second. He looked fine in the preseason.

They sent him down because they think he should be in better shape, but IMO it’s also cover for they wanted him to play harder for a too 6 spot, which they handed to f***ing Dryden Hunt over him instead. And they weren’t gonna let him get in shape on the third or fourth lines because those are their checking lines and they weren’t gonna allow skilled youth on those lines at that point of the season due to their philosophy. It was a horrible idea.
Whether you buy it or not is immaterial. He got hurt, missed some time and the team sent him to Hartford. That is completely reasonable no matter how much anyone might like the player better than the GM.

He signed a contract. If he wants to play hockey professionally he’s obligated to do it for the NYR organization.
If you are fine with what he’s doing you shouldn’t see a problem with the NYR just allowing him to sit unpaid until they get a deal that suits them. The team owes him nothing and whatever they see fit to do for the team situation, they’re entitled to. He requested a trade in January. He should have played up to expectations that would have allowed Drury to get value for him.
