For favorite: old school death metal if I had to pick one. Everything sort of comes together there. But the question is about the best, so classical and maybe followed by ambient.

My (completely meaningless) personal ranking:

Rock/metal/prog
Pop
Indie/Folk
Classical
Soul/Funk
Hip hop
Jazz
Electronic music
Country
Punk/Post-punk
Extreme metal (sludge metal, black metal, non-technical death metal)

I listen to a little bit of everything but tend to gravitate more to songs that have catchy and intervallic melodies, and that evoke emotions.

Whatever one that I am listening to at the moment. (Currently, Charlie Parker, so Bebop)

Not sure if I like the word 'best' in this context, but for me, it's been fairly heavily (old) R&B, soul and funk in the last ten years or so... Probably because I didn't listen to that kind of stuff actively when younger. New Orleans music rules.

It really depends on my mood, and I have a pretty wide variety of tastes.
But if I had to choose a genre if I were to be stuck on a deserted island, it would be jazz/bebop
